He pointed his gun at me and side kicked me twice

Yesterday passed and all the talk about police brutality had me think about the few times I had had an encounter with these upholders of the law.

Notice I didn't put a quotation mark on it seeing that Nigeria is lawless and all.

Before I go on. Yesterday was a stressful day for me...I used every few minutes I got to sleep and recover from my call duty.

I remember before our final year exam our classmate was kidnapped by the police and taken far away from the school environment. We had to drive for minutes to go and make a bargain for our friend.

During the process, they said a lot of things that had my mouth filled with salt...in fear and disgust.

But that's not my story

Mine is partly due to my carelessness. The curfew around the area usually starts by 7 pm and I had reason to be there by a few minutes past 7.

The reason I still had the mind to be there by 7 was:

  1. I had been there by 7 before and they shot a warning shot into the air and people were allowed to cross the station area.

  2. I saw people crossing the area in fact when it happened someone just passed me and he seemed normal. No fear...no hands up. So I thought people were still crossing the area.

When I got there I saw a man with a full stomach pointing a gun at me from the shadows.

He shouted who are you!?

I said I was a student as I raised my hands and started going to my knees.

My spirit left my body.

Then kicked me twice while saying...

You are a student /First kick/
You are a student /Second kick/

I turned around and hoped he wouldn't shoot.

I finally found a way around the police station to my location.

I can't say much about the policing in Nigeria...#Endsars might have been the saddest thing we did together as youths.

I just hope we can all gather and find a solution if it means leaving the country together...maybe on the same day sef...Ih go go too well.
What were we thinking?

Man, I am speechless, police officers with resentment and indoctrinated to attack peaceful demonstrations or simply to "maintain order" in time of protests, are not mentally healthy people, they are unscrupulous people willing to commit acts against humanity. Please bro take care of yourself and your friends and loved ones 🙏

Thanks bro. It's a jungle right here. It's sad but hopefully, we'll make it to better times.

Were there times like this in Venezuela?

Yes brother, disappearances of students and politicians; assassinations in front of people and tortures. People imprisoned for exercising their right to freedom of expression, unfortunately Venezuela has gone through that during the last 20 years 😢

Hard to believe, but it is the truth. This has slowed down a bit but now elections are coming in December and it will be crazy, more migrations and more persecution.

Men...☹️☹️

A friend of mine said some South American countries and African countries are so similar in their corruption and views on human rights...I didn't know how true it was

That's right, there are similarities, and it all starts from politics and how they manipulate the people to divide them. That is the way of thinking that they want to implant in the world and that has led humanity to extremism. It is sad that in the year 2021, there are still actions against the integrity of human beings, just for demanding their rights. Obviously, there will be minority groups that seek something else, that detracts from any struggle, but that does not justify such actions against the people.

That's how the world is right now, brother, people are tired and ask for changes, some are ready to lead those changes, but there are many interests that do not allow that to happen...

Wow...its so true.

What we need is better leadership and all the talk about better leadership starting from me and you will be thrown out of the way if I die chasing it.

Thanks for stopping by once again.

Have an amazing week.

Exactly, that is why we must continue to fight from the individual level so that when the majority wakes up and unites, only then, we will make the changes that are needed.

A great week to you too bro 👊😎🔥

Wat a horrifying story. The police force was in essence brought to life to defend the people from crime and now in some places it's become the opposite.

Hey stay safe!

So true. Nigeria is just rotten and the police force is just expressing how rotten.
