Will you Brighten my Day?

Despite beginning January with an arctic blast, I am reminded that you can find beauty in the most quiescent things. I was out running and started whining about the glacial air that bit and dried my skin, but then there are the days that the sun does come out and you see the fragile beauty that was left behind from the fall. I feel this way every time I go outside. I am literally a better person with nature being a part of my day. When I think back on negatives I've allowed myself to be part of, it was when I had forsaken how I was designed. I adore the fresh air no matter if it's hot, cold, overcast. There's beauty in it all

I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says "Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again. Lewis Carroll

Whenever I come upon a smile in my day, it brightens even the lightest of days. I love the contrast between the bright blue sky and the barren tree.

after
all this time
the Sun never says to the Earth,

You owe me.
Look
what happens
with a love like that,
it lights the whole sky.

Oh where is summer? It's even cold here today. We had a drizzle the other day. At least if it's going to be rainy, I would love it to rain a little sunshine. This picture makes me long for summer breezes again. Like we had last week before the arctic air came to visit!

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

The wreaths at Arlington Cemetery. I remembered when I looked at this shot from last year, on January 22, it will be time to pick up all the wreaths from the graves, the decorations too. There were copious amounts of wreaths and Christmas decorations made by people and families that love. What a fitting way to honor our fallen troops during Christmastime, and what a humbling reminder of just how big their sacrifices were.

I woke to the peaceful sound of snow falling, the reassuring and inspiring words of the Star-Spangled Banner running through my head. No rhyme, no reason, just feeling a little bit patriotic today, and I found the composition a little bit interesting. Hail the day! Ditch the snow! Enough already!.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost

I don’t know if the snow loves to kiss the nature, but for sure the nature loves to be kissed by the snow, the protecting white sheet. It’s isolating the covered plants and earth from the frost. :)

That sounds about right! Nature loves the snow, and I believe it protects it from the elements. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

As always, your pictures are so stunning and smile-inducing. I especially love the one in Arlington Cemetary where the Christmas ornaments are hanging from the tree. So poignant and sweet!

Thank you. That image touches my heart, as I got to watch them putting it up. I didn't have the heart to take a picture of them in such a personal moment, but, after they left, I did.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words. Have an amazing day! xo

Finding and liking the beautiful is a natural human process. Everyone loves beautiful things. Whether it's the weather, flowers or clothes, etc. You presented the landscapes in a very beautiful way. Chose beautiful pictures and decorate them with beautiful words. I wish you a good day

Beautiful poems. Winter is a really beautiful season once you get passed the butter cold of it.

We don't get too bitter cold here. If we have a few cold days here and there, I m okay with that. But, it has been decent, until the blizzard~ But two days later, it was melted.

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the loveliness of winter.

As always such beautiful photos and words
I used to love getting out and getting fresh air each and everyday and the cold didn’t bother me so much

But alas maybe I am not a spring chicken anymore and when it goes below freezing point I don’t handle walks in the cold to well

Have a great day

Always stunning photos and those flowers. They do not just look so sweet but it feels like they taste so sweet. It was a tough life as of now so you haven't seen of me in your posts.

By the way, I love the carved words you shared. It's perfect since I am picking myself that was broken just weeks ago.

How are you doing? I could see your treehouse was destroyed and I wasn't sure how things were for you or if you were still leaving the area?

How did your mother's house survive? It looks like a lot of damage there. So very sad to see. I hope things are getting better. @mrnightmare89

How nicely written. Every day with even a little sunshine is a positive day. Even when all is cloudy the sun still beats through to give us light.

And snow is always beautiful.

I woke to the peaceful sound of snow falling, the reassuring and inspiring words of the Star-Spangled Banner running through my head.

Me too. At least on the snowfall part. Today we have our first snow of 2022. Speaking of the Star-Spangled Banner, we (at least I) very rarely listen to Himnusz (our national anthem). Mostly on special occasion. I do not even like it. The lyrics of our hymn is rather self-pitying. It is depressing. Who likes to sing and hear that we have suffered for all sins of the past and of the future? Every nation suffered a lot over the centuries. Why our national anthem has to be centered around our suffering? The TV and radio often plays the hymn, but I do not like to listen to it. Nowadays I do not even have TV.

The Star-Spangled Banner really brighten up your day with the "O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming". The whole song is positive and happy.

You can listen to our national anthem here (YouTube video with English subtitles): Hungarian National Anthem - Himnusz (HU/EN.

Even if you do not understand our language, and even if you do not pay attention to the English subtitles, probably you can still clearly tell that our national anthem is negative and sad/depressing. This is why I do not like to listen to it. If it would be something positive, something motivating, something inspiring, then I would also gladly and happily listen to it, just like you gladly and happily listen to the Star-Spangled Banner.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Probably because of the anthem Hungary is ranked among the top nations with the most suicides (in relation to the number of inhabitants)! I read that somewhere, many years ago, I don't know if it is still valid.

This is true. Many people commit suicide in my country, and for good reasons. The government intentionally keep most of the people under the local minimum wage. Me too. Many people live day to day. There are many people in much worse financial situations than me. Also many (mostly young) people leave the country to work and live in another country.

Do not worry. I am not planning suicide.

I am planning to collect/save enough money with Hive to buy and live on a sailboat to avoid paying high rent and bills.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

It's not the words that move me, it is the more the fact that it is the National Anthem and I was humming the music, not thinking the words. I am okay with doing that. Everything is not as black and white as you present it. Sometimes it is more about being patriotic and caring about my country than the words. I know exactly what the words say. I suppose I should have used a different phrase to describe it.

Have a great day! Sorry about the snow!

I miss the freezing cold air of childhood winters. I don't know why this longing came over me reading your post... It might have awakened other longings, for summer, to give me some patriotism but no, it made me think of a hard winter. Perhaps because I fear I'll never see another one?
Your post with these wonderful photos brought back many memories and dreams, thank you!

I love thinking about my cheeks burning with heat, but cold to the touch. Winter was such a great time in New England. We would stay out all day and ice skate or go sledding on a big hill. We used a toboggan that would fit four of us, one in the back of the other, and careen down the hill.

Not ever having another hard winter isn't the worse thing, is it? Many Americans move to a warmer climate when they get older just so they won't have to experience a hard winter, ever again. :)

Thank you so much for your kind words and for your friendship! Have a great day!

Always with great pleasure and joy!
Your description is very similar to my childhood winters. Those winters seen by child's eyes never come back but how nice that we can remember them.

You're right, now in old age, it's harder to endure too long and cold a winter. I like a few spells of angry winter but not to last too long. I think I'll have them.

I want to be the first to wish you a beautiful new week!

Thank you! :) It is actually going to be a cool week, maybe even cold! I remember childhood like yessterday! It was so much fun, so carefree, and then I grew up. Boo. :)

But, it beat the alternative. You are probably off to bed. I am off to finish #MarketFriday! So behind.

"So behind" it suits me very well too. Now let me paraphrase you again and say... "as long as it's fun"! Beyond "fun" I feel an addiction, I love being here every day.

Oh, yes. He sure has had a few hot ones lately. It is the peak of their summer, so I expect it will keep him toasty enough.

The weather took a turn for the better today, almost 50 degrees. :) I never thought I would be calling that good. Later today, we will go to the 30s and chill out! :) We will feel like we are in Michigan!
