Sunsets and Ponies, Perfect Way to End my Day

avatar

The beauty of a sunset, where blue waves bounce and scatter, leaving the longer wavelength of reds and oranges in the sky. You have to appreciate the layering of the clouds that pronounces it loudly, and many times, much drama.

How fitting to declare my day done in such a beautiful manner.

Sunset

Out of the sunset's red
Into the blushing sea,
The winds of day drop dead
And dreams come home to me. —
The sea is still,— and apart
Is a stillness in my heart.
The night comes up the beach,
The dark steals over all,
Though silence has no speech
I hear the sea-dreams call
To my heart; — and in reply
It answers with a sigh.

The real reason people come to Chincoteague Island is the wild ponies, and why not? There is something so exciting about being wild and free! In the US, there are ten Western States that have a combined total of almost 83,000 wild horses. In actuality, they were domestic horses gone feral years ago. Because their population increases at the rate of 18% per year, they have regular roundups are done to keep their numbers at a sustainable level. The ones that are rounded up are auctioned off or adopted, giving an opportunity for some families to make them theirs. They make sure that each person will be committed and caring. Doesn't every one of them deserve that? They live about 25 years, but, have been known to live 36 years.

Up close and personal. Sometimes too close. They are kind of cute, but, they are wild, so putting your hand out to feed them something is not such a great idea. People have gotten bitten by them and although they are not running around trying to bite people, they can be a little skittish by an overactive young child. They are kept quite separated from the people, but, you know human nature just cannot resist seeing if they can give them a pet.

The preparations are like clockwork, and the teamwork between agencies and townspeople is impressive. They are helpful and kind, making your visit and mine one of good times. I have been to it every year since I have been here and it has never failed me. Due to coronavirus, they made changes to some of their policies, which affected some of the services they normally provide. All in all, it has been fabulous.

I would be remiss if I didn't include a #Caturday photo on Saturday! Happy #Caturday! This is one of my cats and a dog that is visiting. What you see here is me giving them the guidelines to being kind to each other while I leave the house for a run. Did they do it?

IMG_1518.JPG

What would the beach be without a few seagulls? Perhaps even a few hundred more than that. It must have been the extra tourists feeding them that brought the extras in. They get bolder every day, not even moving when you are walking by. Seriously. Wait until the tourists leave town and they are left with the mean locals that won't feed them. Go fishing! What a hard life, yes? I love how they swoop through the air, their wailing cutting through the wind.

Someone catching dinner for tonight, no doubt. We have literally been on a seafood diet all week. Some fish, shrimp, and crab, and I even sprung and bought some crab cakes. The crabcakes here are the best. Do you like seafood? What is your favorite kind? The beginning of the end. Such a lovely night.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

IMG_2175a.JPG

Just like everything else out here, even the flowers are wild and free. Flowers, always. To color my world. #alwaysaflower. Orange trumpet on the beaches. There is no chance of stopping these from growing without a pair of clippers in your back pocket. It is a hardy grower and produces massive amounts of this showstopper. I would call it invasive, but that sounds so very negative, don't you think? Let's call them extremely prolific.

I want to thank you for stopping by and reading the post. I hope you had a great day and a better tomorrow. And, just like that, this post is over. Come back tomorrow and we'll go for a swim, with a few Chincoteague ponies.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Then again, let's talk about seafood! If you like seafood, this is the place to live!

Best part? You can literally live off of what you catch around here. :)

I always like the view of the sunset. This moment is extraordinary. You have also captured the scene of the birds flying very beautifully.

You have a sunset, I have a sunrise. From today morning (2022.07.31, 06:15 CEST).

I am currently on a train to Budapest to visit the 0-24 dentist. As I currently know, there are no dentists in the weekends in/around Szolnok. This is why I travel to the capital. Fortunately/luckily I have a 90% discount on train tickets within the country (because of my multiple disabilities). The train ticket from Szolnok to Budapest (100 km) was only 176 Hungarian Forint (HUF), which is currently $0.45 USD, because $1 USD is currently 395.42 Hungarian Forint (HUF).

I have bad tooths (at least two). Both my tooths and my gums (gingiva) were in huge pain in the night. I took a Flector Rapid against pain and against inflammation (swelling). It somewhat helped, but I still feel the pain.

I hope that you are (and everyone else is) fine.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

The rising sun makes for a beautiful scene! I would be very happy for you to be going to Budapest as I really love that city, but, the reason behind your visit is not a pleasant one. Many places do not have a dentist on the weekend, especially the smaller towns, so I feel bad for you.

What a great price on your ticket though! They fail on many things for the disabled, but, they did well on this. I am glad you acted immediately as most toothaches like that don't go away on their own. Left to its own devices for a few days and you would be in a world of hurt. Possibly more than you already are.

I am good, still on the Islands with Pony Week, but, today it ended early this morning as they swim back to the other island.

I hope they take good care of you in an expedient manner and you are back to Szolnok in no time. Feel better! Tae care and good luck!

What gorgeous sunset images
I hadn’t though about horses biting people but it makes sense they have been running wild and free away from people and suddenly people all around them from a horses perspective it must be overwhelming

For the most part, they are good, but, offering horse people food after they have just swum across the channel doesn't sound smart to me.

They have never lived as a domesticated horses, so I have no idea why people think they are tame... but, many do. I am pretty sure they would be overwhelmed. I cannot believe how hot it has been, although it is cooler today than it has been, a bit of the heat has gone. But, I shouldn't complain as it is better than the rain with the heat! :)

Good morning from here! I Hope your day is going great!

I hate to say it but I will, sorry but some people are pretty ignorant and have no common sense,

glad its a bit cooler there today

Got out for a walk and some fresh air earlier so my day has started well :)

I saw yours but, I couldn't comment at the time. Quite the flower show! Can you believe I couldn't resist the pull of the blooms while here!? :)

No worries. I thought the same thing about the people. Even little kids are smart enough to be wary of them. I hope you and Lulu are doing fine and you are enjoying these summer days.

Gorgeous sunset, Crabcakes, and a glass of wine. Now that's the way to end a day. Maybe with some those extra large scallops as well! Yum!

Scallops! I love them! Scallop fishing came to a bitter and abrupt halt in 2007 when fisheries managers closed the grounds off Chincoteague to sea scallop. But, after a few years, Virginia is the largest provider of scallops in the nation! Two main types of scallops -- sea or ocean, and bay -- are available year-round, though their harvest time starts in November and lasts into the winter months. Crab harvesting - you are in the perfect position to use hand lines, collapsible traps, and crab pots. Woo-hoo! Always plenty, always delicious. June -September is always the best, but, you can crab April 1 - December 31. You can clam all year round there. You can even use rakes (the Maryland side doesn't require a license)

Let's not even talk about oysters! They are everywhere!

It's a seafood lover's dream! Thanks for stopping by, Kris! @ksteem Have a great day!

I'm craving some for sure. One thing about rural countryside of Vermont, have yet to find a good restaurant. Let alone good seafood one! Now catch and cook? That sounds even better!

That is a problem in rural areas. I have to agree with you there. Some days, I just want to go to a nice place and not worry about cooking or go somewhere special. Having no place specific to go to makes that even more so.

Catch and cook? Every time I am at the shore house! It is the way I was brought up on the Eastern Seaboard. Fresh is best!

Hello, lovely! @katrina-ariel How have you and the boys been? Where has the time gone? They are so old now! LOL Okay, older. What has been on your radar?

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words. ❤️

Hi! Where has the time gone, indeed. My boys are going to turn 8 in just over a month! We're doing amazing, though. Still homeschooling, though they're on summer break right now. My life has been full of writing, training my now-grown puppy, marketing my latest book, and, of course, being a mom. :)

It's always so good to visit you here. You never fail to bring a smile to my face.

That is a fantastic sunset! They never get old to me and make me feel life is worth living.

Funny how humans always have to try to ruin a good thing. I believe, but could be wrong, that a few years back a guy got kicked pretty good on the beach messing with the horses.

I would say shrimp and clams are a favorite. Fried is of course the best, but I am open to eating them other ways. I have never clammed before, but I think it would be fun to try.

Yes. He was trying to pet the backside of it and it kicked him.

Hmmmm Fried clams are the best, unless they are raw on the half shell. A shot of tabasco and we are golden. I like shrimp almost any way!

Clamming is sporting if you use your feet like we used to do when we were kids, but, now, I have been known to use a rake now and then. :) Totally cheating.
