Saludos mis amigos de la colmena, como muchos saben mi Profesión es Médico General y aunque no me gusta mucho publicar sobre mi trabajo, el día de hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una actividad que realice en mi consultorio, la cual estaba dirigida a Adultos Mayores pertenecientes a un comedor popular de la comunidad donde laboro. Esta actividad me lleno mucho y creo gran satisfacción en mí, ya que me encanta mi profesión y la disfruto mucho más cuando puedo prestar un servicio a las personas que más lo necesitan, este tipo de actividades dejan cansancio físico pero distraen la mente y renuevan el corazón.

Greetings my friends of the hive, as many know my profession is General Practitioner and although I do not like to publish much about my work, today I want to share with you an activity I did in my office, which was aimed at older adults belonging to a soup kitchen in the community where I work. This activity filled me a lot and created great satisfaction in me, since I love my profession and I enjoy it much more when I can provide a service to people who need it most, such activities leave physical fatigue but distract the mind and renew the heart.

Aunque no asistieron todos los adultos que cite, atendí a mas de la mitad de los adultos atendidos por este comedor; particularmente encuentro en las personas mayores mucha sabiduría y disfruto las charlas con ellos, en este caso me tope con un par de viejitos jocosos que alegraron mi día con sus bendiciones, chistes e historias personales. Para su atención realice una consulta donde se les peso, tallo, tomo la tensión arterial, revise su oído, nariz y garganta, se pidieron los antecedentes familiares y de enfermedades para ir conociendo al paciente; de esta forma poder prestar una atención completa, un diagnostico certero y un tratamiento adecuado.

Although not all of the adults that I had invited attended, I attended to more than half of the adults served by this dining room; I particularly find in the elderly people a lot of wisdom and I enjoy talking with them, in this case I ran into a couple of jocular old men who brightened my day with their blessings, jokes and personal stories. For their care I made a consultation where they were weighed, measured, blood pressure was taken, checked their ear, nose and throat, family history and diseases were requested to get to know the patient; in this way to provide a complete care, an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Así mismo les di recomendaciones alimenticias, pero por ser personas de bajos recursos y dependientes del comedor popular, esta última recomendación es un poco difícil de cumplir ya que la gran mayoría me comentaron que viven solos o con otros adultos mayores; esto me hizo sentir un poco mal pero entiendo que no puedo resolver este tipo de problemas, así que hice las recomendaciones generales a las cocineras del comedor y ellas se comprometieron a tener cuidado con el uso de la sal y frituras, ya que la mayoría de los pacientes sufren de hipertensión arterial y dislipidemias (colesterol y triglicéridos elevados); no tienen ingresos suficientes para adquirir las medicinas. Aunque la comida depende de los donativos y apoyos económicos de terceros es importante que las cocineras intenten preparar una comida lo más sana posible.

I also gave them nutritional recommendations, but since they are low-income people and dependent on the soup kitchen, this last recommendation is a little difficult to comply with since most of them told me that they live alone or with other elderly people; This made me feel a little bad but I understand that I cannot solve this kind of problems, so I made general recommendations to the cooks of the soup kitchen and they agreed to be careful with the use of salt and fried foods, since most of the patients suffer from high blood pressure and dyslipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides); they do not have enough income to buy the medicines. Although the food depends on donations and financial support from third parties, it is important that the cooks try to prepare the healthiest food possible.

Es de aplaudir esta labor que realizan estas mujeres para atender a estos abuelos, es por ello que apenas pidieron mi colaboración no lo pensé dos veces, porque me da gran satisfacción poder aportar mi granito de arena al realizar esta jornada médica. Espero poder seguir prestando mi servicio a las comunidades mas desvalidas y de esta forma apostar por un futuro mejor; creando conciencia para con el prójimo y no solo pensar en el bienestar propio, Venezuela necesita de nosotros y esta es mi forma de apoyar, así creo un buen modelo a seguir con mis hijos y les enseño solidaridad, humanidad y respeto hacia los adultos mayores y las personas en general.

It is to be applauded this work that these women do to care for these grandparents, which is why as soon as they asked for my collaboration I did not think twice, because it gives me great satisfaction to be able to contribute my grain of sand to carry out this medical journey. I hope to continue providing my service to the most disadvantaged communities and in this way bet on a better future; creating awareness for others and not only think about their own welfare, Venezuela needs us and this is my way to support, so I create a good role model with my children and teach them solidarity, humanity and respect for the elderly and people in general.
