Starting a Small Farm Business to Help My Community Buy Fresh, Affordable Goods Without Traveling Far

Hello everyone! Life here on the farm is simple, but not always easy. One challenge we face is that the nearest store is far from our place. If we need something, we still have to travel or walk 1.5km and now that gas and prices of basic goods are getting higher, it becomes more expensive.

Because of this, I decided to start a small business.I begin selling dried fish, tomatoes, garlic, onions, eggplant, and eggs and anything I can harvest in my backyard gardening. These are simple things, but very important in daily life. I thought, if I can bring these items closer to our community, it will help not only me but also my neighbors and family.

Even if I am busy with housework, online tasks and farm tasks, I make time for this small business. I am the one posting online, answering messages, and preparing orders. It is not always easy, but I enjoy it. Especially when I get income at the end of the day.

What makes me happy is how people support me. Some of them already order even when I don’t have stocks yet. They just wait, and once the items arrive, I deliver right away. It feels good to know they trust me.

My husband’s nieces and nephews also help me. Since it is summer and there are no classes, they do the deliveries. This way, they can earn a small allowance and also learn how to work and be responsible.

One of my best selling items is tomatoes. I get them from my parents’ farm at a wholesale price. Sometimes, my profit is small, especially when I already have regular customers. I don’t want to overprice because I want them to keep buying. What is important is I earn a little and gain loyal customers.

The eggplant I sell is also from our own garden. Fresh and affordable. I make sure that all the products I sell are clean and good quality.

This small business may not be big, but it is a good start. My dream is to have a small talipapa here on our farm someday. A place where people can easily buy what they need.
