My Daughter’s Favorite Snacks: Local Food Grown from Our Own Land

This is the food we usually eat here on our farm, all coming from our own simple resources. We have boiled corn, fried bananas, boiled peanuts, fried peanuts, cooked karlang, cassava recipe and boiled sweet potatoes. Our meals are very simple, but they always fill our stomachs and give us a sense of gratitude every day.

These past days, there have been several earthquakes happening again in our area. Just when one has passed, another one follows. In moments like this, you can really feel how difficult life can be for people who are greatly affected. It reminds me that many are struggling more than we are. Still, even though we live a simple life here on the farm, I feel that we are blessed in many ways.

Life here is very dependent on the land. We plant, we harvest, and we eat what we grow. Sometimes we also sell our crops in the market to earn a little income. Most of the time, we simply cook what is available in our surroundings. We don’t rely much on stores because the farm itself provides most of what we need. And the store or market is a little bit far in our house.

One of the crops we have is what we call karlang. It grows very easily and very fast here. Because of that, many people also buy it from us. Sometimes I even give planting materials to others so they can grow it themselves. But I still find it funny and a little confusing why some people prefer to buy it instead of planting it. For our family and close relatives, we usually just share it freely without asking for anything in return.
I have a favorite one the cassava so easy to plant and grow, a lot to harvest and a very delicious food favorite snack. And we are blessed, and we can enjoy coconuts anytime we want.

Living on the farm has taught me so many lessons in life. One of the biggest lessons is that even a simple life can still be enough if you are hardworking and patient. Honestly, I believe that no one here will go hungry as long as they are willing to plant, wait, and take care of the land. The earth is always generous if you know how to work with it. Especially if they willing to plant sweet potatoes and karlang it’s a free to plant we have a resource of the body of plants and stem for planting.
Of course, life is not always easy, especially with unexpected events like earthquakes. There are moments of fear and uncertainty. But at the same time, it also makes me appreciate life more. It reminds me to be thankful for simple things food on the table, a safe place, and family.

At the end of the day, farm life may be simple, but it is honest, peaceful, and full of lessons. Thank you for taking time to read my simple farm life experience.
