Between Planting and Harvest: Our Farm Story of Growing Rice, Sugarcane, Hope, and Hard Work Every Morning

Hello everyone,

I just want to share a little update from our farm today.

Today, I wake up early and going outside to check our crops. Good thing our farm is just in front of our farm house, so I can easily visit it even before I start doing my other things for the day.

Every time I walk around the farm, I always feel happy when I see our crops growing. It may look simple, but for us farmers, seeing healthy plants is already something to be thankful for. This is what we always pray to have a crops away from the pests.

Right now, we are waiting for financing for two of our crops our rice and sugarcane.

I checked our rice field, and thankfully, the palay or we called rice is growing well. There are some weeds growing in between the crops, but that is part of farming. Sometimes we cannot avoid them. We just need to find a way to manage them and continue taking care of the rice.

For me, farming palay is not easy because it needs enough capital. Before we can even see the rice ready for harvest, we already have many expenses. We need money for fertilizers, pesticides, labor, and other things needed in the field.

Sometimes, farmers have to borrow money just to finance the crops. We cannot simply stop because if we do not spend for the crops, there may be nothing good to harvest later. But borrowing also comes with another responsibility because we have to think about how we can pay it after harvest.

That is why financing is very important in farming.

Our sugarcane is a little different. Compared to rice, the expenses can be lighter, which is one reason I also like having sugarcane in vacant areas of the farm. The only challenge is that we have to wait longer before we can harvest it.

For now, we are still waiting and taking care of what we already planted.

I know farming is really a game of patience. We plant, spend, work, wait, and hope that the weather will cooperate and that the harvest will be good.

So every morning that I see our crops growing, I already feel a little encouraged.

At least, they are growing. And as long as they are growing, we still have something to hope for.
