A Busy Morning on Our Farm: Less Scrolling, More Doing and Checking in Our Backyard

I wake up early today at 4:30 in the morning. I wake up early because we have helpers working on the house that we are building. Since they will be working early, I need to prepare their food.

The first thing I did was make coffee. Coffee is very important to me in the morning. While drinking my coffee, there’s a lot of realization and this is the moment where I can plan what the things to do, this is also the time when I check Facebook, Messenger, and other social media. I scroll a little, check messages, and look at some posts.

But after my coffee, I try to put my phone away.

I noticed that when I stay too long on Facebook, I lose a lot of time. Sometimes, I only want to check one message, but then I see a video, another post, and another one. Before I know it, many minutes or even an hour are already gone.

So today, I decided to focus on my work.

I prepared our food for the helpers. I cooked vegetables with catfish. This is one of their favorite foods. They like simple food, especially when it is cooked fresh at home.

While cooking, I also checked our plants. I looked at our strawberries, lettuce, and other vegetables. I realized again that I really need to visit our plants every day.

Even if our plants are just near the farmhouse, sometimes I do not have time to check them because I am very busy. I have to cook, clean, take care of my child, help with the farm, and do many other things at home.

Today, I did my garden work while my child was still sleeping. I wanted to finish some work before my child woke up. It was easier and faster because the house was still quiet.

After cooking, I went outside and removed the dry leaves from our plants. I also watered the strawberries, lettuce, and other vegetables.

I enjoy doing these simple things. When I see my plants growing, I feel happy. It reminds me that plants also need our time and care.

I also learned that I can do more when I do not spend too much time scrolling on social media.
I am not saying that we should stop using Facebook. I also use social media to share our farm, our harvest, our plants, and our simple daily life.

But I try to have a limit. For me, coffee time can be my short social media time. After that, I focus on my work. Instead of scrolling for a long time, I would rather take pictures of my plants and save these simple moments.

Social media can take our time so fast. One scroll becomes many scrolls, and suddenly, the time is gone.

But when I spend that time with my family, cooking, gardening, and taking care of our plants, I can see the result.

It was a busy morning, but I am happy because I was able to do many things. Simple life, simple work, but a happy heart. Thank you for reading my story, this is my own picture and edited in Canva.
