Al fin visitamos el oftalmólogo - Nuevo diagnóstico
Hola queridos amigos de Motherhood, que gusto poder saludarles y compartir con ustedes mis experiencias, alegrías y preocupaciones como madre.
En anteriores publicaciones he compartido mi preocupación por la salud visual de mi hijo Angel, de 04 años, quien ha venido presentando algunos síntomas que me han mantenido angustiada este año, el principal de ellos es el enrojecimiento de sus ojos.
Después de varias visitas al pediatra y de aplicarle varios tratamientos, el problema ha empeorado paulatinamente, con excepción de algunos días en que aparentemente se veía bien. En las últimas semanas, además del enrojecimiento de los ojos, alrededor de ellos apareció una especie de sarpullido, la piel se notaba irritada y un poco inflamada, sabíamos que debíamos acudir a un especialista lo más pronto posible, porque solo así, podríamos obtener un diagnóstico veraz.

In previous posts I have shared my concern for the visual health of my son Angel, 04 years old, who has been presenting some symptoms that have kept me anxious this year, the main one is the reddening of his eyes.
After several visits to the pediatrician and the application of several treatments, the problem has worsened gradually, with the exception of some days when it apparently looked good. In the last weeks, in addition to the reddening of the eyes, around them a kind of rash appeared, the skin looked irritated and a little inflamed, we knew we had to go to a specialist as soon as possible, because only then, we could get a true diagnosis.
Sin embargo, esto parecía ser una misión imposible, agotamos los centros de salud pública, sin obtener respuesta, la mayoría de ellos, nos informaron que no atenderían a nuevos pacientes hasta el próximo año, entonces, debimos activar nuestro plan B, que era ir a un consultorio privado, pero en mi estado la mayoría de las consultas, están muy costosas, al menos para mí o no atienden pacientes pediátricos, hasta que un amigo me encontró una cita con un oftalmólogo a un precio más accesible 20 $ la consulta.
Agradecidos por la oportunidad, no perdimos tiempo y el pasado lunes nos dirigimos al Centro de diagnóstico ATRIUM, en la ciudad de Mérida, Venezuela. Este día nos levantamos muy temprano con la esperanza de escuchar buenas noticias y encontrarle una solución a este problema que está afectando el normal desenvolvimiento en el día a día de mi hijo
However, this seemed to be an impossible mission, we exhausted the public health centers, without obtaining an answer, most of them, informed us that they would not attend to new patients until next year, so we had to activate our plan B, which was to go to a private practice, but in my state most of the consultations, they are very expensive, at least for me or they do not attend pediatric patients, until a friend found me an appointment with an ophthalmologist at a more accessible price 20 $ the consultation.
Grateful for the opportunity, we did not waste time and last Monday we went to the ATRIUM Diagnostic Center, in the city of Mérida, Venezuela. This day we got up very early with the hope of hearing good news and finding a solution to this problem that is affecting the normal development in the day to day of my son.
Angel bien temprano me sorprendió al decir la palabra oftalmólogo de una manera espontánea y clara, día a día agrega nuevas palabras a su vocabulario y mejora su pronunciación, pequeños logros que te llenan el alma y que sin duda hizo que mi día empezara muy bien. Tomamos el autobús y en poco tiempo, ya estábamos en el centro de diagnóstico, esperamos pacientemente a la doctora, mientras tanto Angel, insistía en que volviéramos a casa, estaba tranquilo, pero un poco nervioso.
Cuando llego nuestro turno, la doctora le realizo el examen en uno de sus aparatos, costo un poco, porque el niño no alcanzaba, usamos cojines y tuvo que arrodillarse, hasta quedar a la altura necesaria. En ese momento, como madre, estaba ansiosa, no estaba preparada para escuchar ningún diagnóstico negativo, nadie lo está, así que elevaba todas mis oraciones al cielo en ese momento. Las expresiones de la doctora no eran muy buenas, en silencio, le aplico una crema en los parpados, mientras hacía gestos que me asustaron un poco. Angel por su parte, se mantuvo obediente y tranquilo.
Angel surprised me early on by saying the word ophthalmologist in a spontaneous and clear way, day by day he adds new words to his vocabulary and improves his pronunciation, small achievements that fill your soul and that undoubtedly made my day start very well. We took the bus and in no time we were at the diagnostic center, we waited patiently for the doctor, meanwhile Angel insisted that we go home, he was calm but a little nervous.
When it was our turn, the doctor examined him in one of his machines, it cost a little because the child could not reach, we used cushions and he had to kneel down to the necessary height. At that moment, as a mother, I was anxious, I was not prepared to hear any negative diagnosis, nobody is, so I was raising all my prayers to heaven at that moment. The doctor's expressions were not very good, in silence, she applied a cream on his eyelids, while making gestures that scared me a little. For his part, Angel remained obedient and calm.
Un nuevo diagnóstico.
A new diagnosis.
La pediatra en la última consulta lo diagnostico con conjuntivitis bacteriana y se le aplicó un tratamiento con antibióticos, sin embargo, este no dio resultados, en esta consulta el diagnóstico cambio a conjuntivitis alérgica (otra vez), me dijo que presenta un cuadro alérgico severo, que tal vez, sea difícil de tratar y adicional a esto presenta una dermatitis peri-ocular en el exterior e interior del parpado, siendo esto el causante de la picazón y las erupciones en la piel.
Ahora que tenemos el diagnóstico de un especialista, ¿Cuál es el siguiente paso a seguir?.
The pediatrician diagnosed him with bacterial conjunctivitis and applied an antibiotic treatment, however, this did not work, in this consultation the diagnosis changed to allergic conjunctivitis (again), he told me that he presents a severe allergic picture, which may be difficult to treat and in addition to this he has a periocular dermatitis on the outside and inside of the eyelid, which is causing the itching and eruptions on the skin.
Now that we have the diagnosis of a specialist, what is the next step to follow?

En resumen, mi hijo es una persona alérgica y como no sabemos exactamente que objeto o alimento, le causa esta reacción, debemos hacer lo posible para minimizar en el ambiente que lo rodea, eliminando cualquier factor que pudiese causar alergias, como el polvo, los ácaros, el detergente, el tipo de jabón, así que además de un tratamiento por dos meses, que consiste en aplicar unas gotas y una crema por las noches, debemos seguir todos en casa las siguientes recomendaciones:
- Lavar los ojos exclusivamente con agua destilada, nada de lavar los ojos con manzanilla o hierbas.
- Usar jabones y champú con pH neutro, sin fragancia.
- Lavar la ropa, solo con jabón azul, sin suavizantes.
- Limpiar la casa y muebles con agua y vinagre.
- Evitar las mascotas, el cual es una de las cosas más difíciles de conseguir, ya que a la casa llegaron dos gatos y los niños están enamorados de ellos.
- Eliminar por estos dos meses el jugo de limón y naranja, también los alimentos que contengan colorante amarillo nro.5
- Guardar todos los peluches. (Ángel extraña a Moto Moto, el hipopótamo de Madagascar 2 su peluche favorito).
In short, my son is an allergic person and as we do not know exactly what object or food, it causes this reaction, we must do our best to minimize in the environment that surrounds him, eliminating any factor that could cause allergies, such as dust, mites, detergent, the type of soap, so in addition to a treatment for two months, which consists of applying a few drops and a cream at night, we must all follow the following recommendations at home:
- Wash eyes exclusively with distilled water, no washing eyes with chamomile or herbs.
- Use neutral pH soaps and shampoos, without fragrance.
- Wash clothes, only with blue soap, without softeners.
- Clean the house and furniture with water and vinegar.
- Avoid pets, which is one of the most difficult things to achieve, since two cats arrived at the house and the children are in love with them.
- Remove for these two months the lemon and orange juice, also the foods that contain yellow dye no.5
- Save all the plush toys. (Angel misses Moto Moto, the hippopotamus of Madagascar 2 his favorite plush toy).

Estas son algunos de los cambios que debemos hacer, el principal es eliminar, no solo de la habitación sino de la casa en general, cualquier exposición a cualquier agente responsable de este problema. La doctora, fue sincera y nos dijo que esto puede llevarnos un tiempo, porque el problema está avanzado, pero haremos lo necesario para que esté bien.
Ya está recibiendo su tratamiento, nos costó 40 $ en su totalidad y ya se está comenzando a ver pequeños cambios en sus ojos. Mi mayor deseo en esta navidad, es que Angel recuperé el brillo en su mirada, que esta situación ya no le cause problemas, que afectan en su rutina diaria y por supuesto que no traiga complicaciones en el futuro.
These are some of the changes we must make, the main one is to eliminate, not only from the room but from the house in general, any exposure to any agent responsible for this problem. The doctor was honest with us and told us that this may take some time, because the problem is advanced, but we will do what is necessary for it to be well.
He is already receiving his treatment, it cost us $ 40 in total and we are already beginning to see small changes in his eyes. My greatest desire this Christmas is that Angel recover the brightness in his gaze, that this situation no longer causes him problems, that affect his daily routine and of course that does not bring complications in the future.
Mi recomendación a todas las madres y padres de la comunidad, es que no vean los síntomas de la conjuntivitis como algo sencillo, es común, muchos niños pueden contraer conjuntivitis en algún momento, pero si los síntomas persisten más de una o dos semanas, consulten un especialista. Mi niño tiene un año con esta afección, a pesar de ser atendido varias veces por pediatras y hasta ahora logramos que un oftalmólogo lo viera, esperamos que ahora, sí, mi hijo comience a sanar correctamente.
Han tenido con sus hijos, alguna experiencia como esta, estaré feliz de leerlos en los comentarios.
My recommendation to all mothers and fathers in the community is not to see the symptoms of conjunctivitis as something simple, it is common, many children can get conjunctivitis at some point, but if the symptoms persist for more than one or two weeks, see a specialist. My child is one year old with this condition, despite being attended several times by pediatricians and even now we managed to get an ophthalmologist to see him, we hope that now, yes, my child begins to heal correctly.

Amiga por lo menos con un diagnóstico es como ir más sobre seguro.
Toda molestia en los ojos es malisima para un niño pequeño debe ser muy incómodo. Espero que pronto se recupere.

Si, exacto amigo, porque en las anteriores consultas,los doctores en realidad se basaban en una suposición, por los síntomas, pero ahora con el examen, es mas exacto y el tratamiento es muy distinto. Gracias por tus buenos deseos.

Amiga, es duro, a mi me da de todo y cuando le da esas crisis, me da de todo impotencia, rabia no se, es difícil, porque me da miedo. Estamos haciendo todo lo que nos recomendaron, esperamos que en dos meses las doctoras nos de buenas noticias.
Mi bebé Abby estuvo con alergia en los ojos cuando tenía aproximadamente 9meses pero nunca fue tan grave, con el tratamiento paso rápido. Deseo tu pequeño mejore significativamente y sane rápidamente.
