Another beautiful Hike in Ateora - The Tongariro Alpine Crossing, New Zealand

avatar

Hi everyone, Kia Ora, Xin chào,

It has been a week I haven't put on my blogging hat. I haven't lost my Hiving motivation yet. It is just I don't know what to write and what to share with our communities. I want to bring values to it so I struggle when I couldn't find anything and unable to write probably.

Also, I was under my own pressure to be good as other Hivers. I started questioning myself about why other Hivers can blog everyday with good and interesting content but I couldn't. I am not as good as them.

I know and understand that I shouldn't compare myself with others. It is impossible to do so and I only should compare me to myself. But I still did. I thought I am able to equip myself with a strong emotional fitness base with all the knowledge and skills that I read and learn but clearly I am not. Thankfully, I had a chat with my dear friend @trangbaby and with her encouragement, I feel full of energy again.

Today I chose a phenomenal mountain hiking track in New Zealand to blog about. This is the first one-day hiking I did in New Zealand after many months working in a blueberry farm. It reminds me about hard work pay off and everything will come sonner or later. Ok, are you well-prepared for this hike? Let's go.

_DSC0076.JPG

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is located in the Tongariro National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are several volcanoes in the area like Mt Ruapehu that I introduced to you in my post Ride the volcano, do you dare? However, the most impressive one is Mount Ngāuruhoe, which stands out for its perfectly shaped (and still active!) stratovolcano with a height of 2291 meters.

The hiking track my friends and I followed is the 19.4 km of alpine terrain and it took us around 8 hours to complete. For me, The best part of this hike is that it's a constant changing of scenes! I walked past several craters, and being amazed with ancient lava flows and stark volcanic landscapes, steeming crater lakes and Alpine fields!

We started the track when it was still dark with the easiest part of the whole hike. After around 4.5 km we reach to the Devil's Staircase where we had to climb a lot of stairs. I was so tired as I hadn't really prepared for this hike. I thought I worked outdoor in a farm so it would be fine to hike a mountain but I was completely wrong. I should had been improving my physical strengh before doing it.

The hike began with a beautiful sunrise

_DSC0075.JPG

Once we reach to the top of the stairs, we could see right in front of Mount Ngāuruhoe. This hiking part was really enjoyable for me as it was not too difficult. Also, I had never been to a volcanic area before so it appears completely alien to me.

The track to the peak of the red crater and the 3 beautiful emerald lakes was the most dangerous and difficutl part of this hike. I consider it was the same difficulty level with the one I experience in my hiking trip in Mt Taranaki. The rolling peddle with strong wind made it so hard to move around. I remember when we were on top of the red crater, I had to sit down so the wind wouldn't blow me away.

Once we got down to the lakes, It was beautiful and calm so we decided to have our lunch there. After that we continued our way to the big blue lake and then rushed to go as we didn't have much time left and one of my friends felt unwell so I didn't take photos on the last part.

Aww my girl. I could feel you. Don't stress yourself about it. It's impossible to be a perfect writer, especially since English isn't our first language.

Tongariro Alpine is spectacular. There is no way I would have missed this trail when I visited the North Island huhu

thank you @mackbroom. It looks unreal to me at first. I've never seen this landscape before, only in movies. It was amazing to see it in real life.

I know and understand that I shouldn't compare myself with others. It is impossible to do so and I only should compare me to myself.

Yeah truly accepted. You can read other hivers and take advance from them. If you can compare with you, definitely find what should you need to publish next. Maybe difficult. But don put pressure of yourself. Think freedomly and creatively.
Wow...so stunning place where you were hiking through the track. The sunrise truly awesome. Morning walk perfect to reach decided desination or complete the journey. This photo clicks really fabulous.

Hi Arni, thank you for stopping by and read my post.

I am really sorry you couldn't do this hike. It is a spectacular one. I even thought I was entering a hidden world. At that time, everything looks completely alien to me (I am from Vietnam and we don't have volcanos) 😅

Don´t be too hard on yourself Dora ;) Your posts are amazing and the community loves them, you can easily say that by the support and feedback you get on those posts :) Keep them coming whenever you feel like it, just take it easy :) Once posting is not fun for you anymore, it´s hard to be consistent and motivated.

Awesome hike btw :)

I am really appreciate for your comment @phortun and our Hive community support. I understand now that I pressure myself to be good as others but forgot everything take time and effort to build and after all we're here to enjoy and have fun. As you may recall, I mentioned in my introduction post that I hadn't blog before and always thought writing was not my strong suit. I didn't put any effort to fix it until joining Hive. It is certainly a new path in my life journey and I am so glad that I discover it. Once again, thank you so much for your huge support.

Hello Dora. That's one extremely challenging hike indeed! And I'm not sure if I could cope up with its physical demands. The location there also looks surreal, as if you're venturing into a foreign planet. I'm glad you and your dear companions made it. So, congrats on that adventurous journey! 😊

You are so right. It looks unreal for me when I first saw it. We don't have volcanos in Vietnam so I only saw these landscapes on movies. I actually felt like I was in another planet at that moment. On every steps of my way, I was curious to look at the rock, then the volcanos and then which type of plants are growing there. It was amazing.

That sunrise is just a dream! I always admire the great colors of nature! Just this morning I also witnessed the most beautiful sunrise, vibrant reds and oranges hit my eyes. New Zealand is an incredible place, good for you for taking the time to visit it!

Thank you. I am so lucky to be there on a good day. Did you take photos of the sunrise this morning? I would love to see it too. Beautiful sunrise or sunset are incredible moments for our soul.

I did not take any picture, I find that for me it is better to be in the moments in times like those, to have a mental picture of it all, I feel it is much better for my peace of mind to be disconnected from technology in that very moment

Hey @dora381 I'm so pleased that you didn't force yourself to post for the sake of posting. The worse thing one can do on Hive is to churn our sub standard posts due to FOMO. It is much better to put your effort into crafting one good post and build up a good reputation for your account so people that you bring value to Hive. You have proved that you made a good decision, so well done for that!

Hi @livinguktaiwan, I really appreciate your comment. That's exactly what was happening in my mind. I love Hive so I don't want to just post without considering the value added. I don't want it is bombarded with anything, it is not good for the growth of Hive. Anyway, I was a bit stressed about blogging but I think it's a good moment for me to think and learn about what to do. Cheers, Dora.

I have seen Mt Tongariro from afar and its presence was calling for adventure. We were traveling with a 3yo. I heard the recommended age for this hike would be children at least older than 10 years old. I had no idea there are no volcanoes in Vietnam. I'm so happy for you, Dora, about this experience.

Oh yes if you were traveling with a 3yo, it is not a good idea to do this walk. As I mentioned the part to the crater lake was too dangerous, especially for children, even me struggling to keep my balance.

When I first joined the Blockchain back in 2017, I was also determined to post daily, or at least once every 2 days, and when I wasn't able to, I felt like I was disappointing the members of community and always ask myself why others can do it and I can't.

The reality was that focusing to share new content daily was becoming less and less entertaining because back then it was really hard to make people stop on your posts and for one year everything I was getting on my articles was between $0-$0.50 which was very discouraging.

So I stopped and decided to post just once every 6 days and did that for almost 3 years in a row. It's very important to set yourself a schedule and follow it because when I was sharing daily content, I realized that I was less dedicating myself to write as many information about every place visited, than the articles I started sharing weekly. I was getting maxim 500 words daily, while on the weekly articles I have moments when I reach 2,500-3,000 words, and that makes the efforts and time spent be better rewarded. So don't put too much pressure on yourself to post daily because people who do it have years of experience in writing already and also gained their support in the community and it's easier for them to find their motivation 😊

Always focus on quality rather than quantity 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing your valuable lesson with me. As I am a one-month old Hiver, I was planning to participating in two community contests each week, on top of that I want write 1-2 articles about stuff that I like. That were things went wrong. I was not able to deliver my goal. I felt bad and lost my focus. I understand it now and will take things slowly. Once again, I really appreciate your time to share with me your experience. Cheers, Dora.

That's a sight to behold! I wish we could do this too in our country, as the COVID situation here is really bad 😔 Btw, may I know what kind of grass is that, near the bluish lake? Sorryyy, I'm in awe every time I see nature, yet I do not know what every species is being called hehe.

Also, I was under my own pressure to be good as other Hivers. I started questioning myself about why other Hivers can blog everyday with good and interesting content but I couldn't. I am not as good as them.

  • Oh! Don't feel bad. As a newbie in Hive, my leader always reminds me to not push myself too much. Good thing, you were encouraged by your friend, yey! 💕

Actually its a good question. I dont know what kind of grass or weed it is. But it is growing in the acid lake. It is not recommended to touch the water. I can have a look online and let you know.

And thank you for your encouragement. Much appreciated
