Baby Formula Shortage Gets Worse

Another shortage is taking place in the market right now with baby formula to the point that some stores are now rationing supplies. This is one of many shortages that we have seen take place in the market since the pandemic first became an issue and supply chains got disrupted around the world.

Continued lockdowns in areas like China are still causing supply chain difficulty and though it is believed that the worst of the supply chain crisis might be behind us there are still fears that there could be more shortages with different products.

Some of those shortages, like the chip shortage, is expected to last until 2023.

Health professionals have urged the public not to add water to try and make that baby formula go further. And some parents have already gone to multiple stores looking for the product only to find it is sold out.

According to one Virginia based research firm they estimate that some 30% of baby formula brands might be sold out around many U.S. retailers in the country. The problem has continued to get worse.

Some of those states with the highest shortages right now are regions like Minnesota, Iowa, Texas, North Dakota, Louisiana, South Dakota, Maryland, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. These regions are estimated to be facing out of stock percentages that are 40% or higher.

A number of baby formula products had also recently been recalled from the market and this is said to have been contributing to the problem right now. It is something that's causing concern for customers and healthcare facilities too.

Those manufacturers who put out baby formula products in the market have already taken to increasing production to try and address the current shortage, just like we saw when the toilet paper shortage and others took place, and it isn't clear when it might be fully worked out and normalized with more supply on the shelves.
