Happy and wonderful day, friends! I am excited to share with you my first day of class in the baking course. We started the week off on the right foot today, Monday, after a week of rest at home. It all started when I woke up at 6:30 a.m. to get ready and head to the course. It was a sunny and hot morning early in the morning, but despite that, I prepared my coffee and arepa for breakfast before leaving. Finally, I arrived to class and was surprised to see so many students.

¡Feliz y maravilloso día, amigos! Estoy emocionada de compartir con ustedes mi primer día de clase en el curso de panadería. Comenzamos la semana hoy lunes con buen pie después de una semana de descanso en mi hogar. Todo comenzó cuando desperté a las 6:30 a.m. para alistarme y dirigirme al curso. Fue una mañana soleada y calurosa desde temprano, pero a pesar de ello, preparé mi café y mi arepa para desayunar antes de salir. Finalmente, llegué a clases y me sorprendí al ver tantos alumnos.

The first thing the teacher gave us was a brief explanation about the ingredients used in the bakery, their meanings and functions in the elaboration of breads. He also introduced us to the recipe that he would be teaching throughout the course, which will last 4 weeks.

Lo primero que nos dio el profesor fue una breve explicación sobre los ingredientes utilizados en la panadería, sus significados y funciones en la elaboración de los panes. También nos presentó la receta que enseñaría a lo largo del curso, el cual durará 4 semanas.

We moved to the kitchen, the space is quite small in the area where the teacher teaches the classes, as it is the kitchen of the house, which facilitates the preparations. Our teacher Douglas is always so efficient in the classes, explaining with a lot of patience every detail of the recipes and guiding us in every step. The first thing he taught us is to weigh all the ingredients, saying that it is an essential step for each recipe. He also makes the doughs himself to make sure everything is perfect.

Nos trasladamos a la cocina, el espacio es bastante reducido en el área donde el profesor dicta las clases, ya que es la cocina de la casa, lo que facilita las preparaciones. Nuestro profesor Douglas siempre es tan eficiente en las clases, explicando con mucha paciencia cada detalle de las recetas y orientándonos en cada paso. Lo primero que nos enseñó es a pesar todos los ingredientes, diciendo que es un paso esencial para cada receta. Además, él mismo hace las masas para asegurarse de que todo quede perfecto.

The first recipe we learned was a semi flaky dough, used to make a Hawaiian bread and croissants. The teacher provided us with the essential techniques to achieve these two recipes, which I will soon be able to prepare here at home and share with you friends.

La primera receta que aprendimos fue una masa semi hojaldrada, utilizada para hacer un pan hawaiano y unos croissants. El profesor nos proporcionó las técnicas esenciales para lograr estas dos recetas, las cuales pronto podré preparar acá en casa y compartir con ustedes amigos.

While the semi flaky dough was in the refrigerator, we started with the other recipe and techniques for making French bread.The latter is a normal dough without puff pastry, although on this occasion we added vegetable shortening. We were reminded of the importance of adding each ingredient on time to obtain a good result and an exquisite bread.

Mientras la masa semi hojaldrada estaba en la nevera, comenzamos con la otra receta y las técnicas para hacer el pan francés. Este último es una masa normal sin hojaldre, aunque en esta ocasión le agregamos manteca vegetal. Nos recordaron la importancia de agregar cada ingrediente a tiempo para obtener un buen resultado y un pan exquisito.

At the end, after 11:00 a.m., the teacher had to pick up his son from school and take him home.He asked us to help him by peeling and cutting the pineapple into small pieces.He also showed us how to roll out the semi-flaky dough, and showed us what fillings we could add to both the Hawaiian breads and the croissants, whether sweet or savory, and when he returned, he got down to work to finish and take them to the bakery.

Al final, pasadas las 11:00 a.m., el profesor tuvo que salir a buscar a su hijo al colegio y llevarlo a su casa. Nos pidió que lo ayudáramos pelando y cortando la piña en trozos pequeños. Además, nos indicó y enseñó cómo estiraríamos la masa semi hojaldrada, y nos mostró qué rellenos podríamos agregar tanto a los panes hawaianos como a los croissants, ya sean dulces o salados, al regresar puso manos a la obra para terminar y llevar al horneado.

The breads took time in the oven and we left around 1:30 from class, it was already quite late.Nevertheless, it was worth it for what we learned.Now all that remains is to prepare them, since there were so many of us and we could only try a piece of each one.

Los panes tomaron su tiempo en el horno y salimos cerca de la 1:30 de clases, ya era bastante tarde. A pesar de ello, valió la pena por lo que aprendimos. Ahora solo queda prepararlos, dado que éramos muchos y solo pudimos probar un trozo de cada uno.
