How should we use our Home Incubator? - Cómo debemos utilizar nuestra Incubadora Casera?

Hello friends, I hope you are all doing well. I am happy to be able to be in this wonderful space that Diyhub offers us. At the end of last year, on December 27th to be exact, I was able to start incubating eggs from laying hens. It is my first time making a homemade incubator and, of course, carrying out the incubation process. However, I want to share with you the results I have had to date, January 19, 2026.

A finales del año pasado exactamente para el dia 27 de diciembre pude colocar a incubar huevos de gallinas ponedoras. Es mi primera vez haciendo una incubadora casera y por supuesto realizando el proceso de incubación. sin embargo, quiero compartir con ustedes los resultados que he tenido hasta el día de hoy 19 de enero de 2026.

What things should we keep in mind in order to incubate eggs?

• 1 Preservation of eggs before incubation

This is one of the most important steps in the egg incubation process, and it was one of the main mistakes I made. Of the thirteen eggs I placed in the incubator, only four were suitable for incubation!

Es uno de los pasos más importantes para el proceso de incubación de los huevos, y fue uno de los errores principales que cometí. ¡Ya que de trece huevos que inserté en la incubadora solo 6 eran adecuados para el proceso de incubación!

• We must bear in mind that once the hen has laid the egg, the egg should remain outside the incubator at a safe temperature of 14°C for a MAXIMUM of 7 days, since after 7 days the embryo in the egg has a very low chance of surviving and therefore being suitable for the incubation process!

• Debemos tener en cuenta que una vez que la gallina ponga el huevo lo máximo que el huevo debe estar fuera de la incubadora y a una temperatura de resguardo de 14°C por un MAXIMO de 7 días, ya que después de 7 días el embrión del huevo tiene muy bajas probabilidades de sobrevivir y de ser apto por lo tanto para el proceso de incubación!

• On day 5 or 7, we can observe and therefore discard any eggs that are not incubating, since when shining a flashlight on them, if no veins are visible, it means that the embryo has died.

• Al dia 5 o 7 podemos observar y por lo tanto descartar los huevos que no están incubando ya que al alumbrar con la linterna si no se ve formación de venas quiere decir que el embrión murió.

• 2 Ideal egg temperature and thermostat settings.

• 2 Temperatura ideal de los huevos y configuración del termostato.

I set the ideal temperature for the eggs inside the incubator on the thermostat to 37.6°C-38°C.

La temperatura ideal de los huevos dentro de la incubadora particularmente la configuré en el termostato a una temperatura de 37.6°C- 38°C

• 3 Humidity Control.

• 3 Control de Humedad.

Due to the incandescence and the heat generated, evapotranspiration occurs and therefore water is constantly lost from the container. For this reason, it is important to constantly check the humidity with a hydrometer. The humidity must be in a minimum range of 45%–60% during the first 18 days of incubation and must be higher

Por incidencia de la incandescencia y el calor generado se produce la evapotranspiración y por lo tanto se pierde agua en el recipiente contantemente , por ello es importante estar chequeando constantemente la humedad con el hidrómetro, la humedad debe estar en un rango mínimo de 45% - 60% durante los primeros 18 días de incubación y debe ser mayor

• 4 Conservation of the Incubator area

• 4 Conservación del área de la Incubadora

Another very important factor is the area or room where the incubator will be located, as it should not be in an area where the temperature constantly varies drastically, as this can affect the egg incubation process.

Otro factor que es muy importante es el área o habitación donde va a estar ubicada la incubadora ya que esta no debe estar en un área donde constantemente la temperatura varie de forma drástica, ya que puede afectar el proceso de incubación de los huevos.
