5 Minute Bedtime Freewrite

It's that time again, Dibbs' bed time, and you know what that means.

Dreams

Snores

Rumpled Sheets

Soft Pillows

If only it were that simple! Isn't it strange that even when we know how tired we are it is sometimes so impossible to fall asleep?

I've been struggling with this alot lately! I'll go to bed and be stuck! Lying there awake and knowing that I need to be asleep. An early start in the morning! Have to take the kiddo to school, lots to do and accomplish throughout the day. But the mind works in overtime.... At least mine does....

And that's the unfortunate truth! I write and think best in those first dark hours of the night- yet society and convention dictates that I MUST BE ASLEEP at that time... How is that reasonable? If I am not asleep by then I don't get enough and I'm tired and occasionally grumpy in the morning. That's not good for anyone...

I'm not sure if this is a product of working nightshift for so long, my poor sleep habits of teenage and college years, or something evolutionary- perhaps my ancestors had better luck hunting at dusk or something! I don't know... I hope it's something evolutionary honestly...

Should I go hunting instead of going to sleep?

Are there Hyenas and Leopards hiding in the dark?

Perhaps that is what keeps me awake- not a primordial inclination to hunt...

But an ancient anxiety strongest before dusk?

I have found that putting on a show I like but have already seen works well...

Sometimes it is really hard to turn off the brain. I try to keep a routine of slow down at least half an hour before bed, do something relaxing.
This is not always possible, life tends to get messy, but it is fine too. We do what we can. 😉
