Have you ever heard about Kakigori? Kakigori is one of Japanese traditional shaved iced dessert which flavoured with syrup, sweetener or condensed milk. In the ancient time, common people couldn’t eat it because the dessert was special for noblemen. Fortunately, we also could try kakigori easily because it sold for anyone now.

On a Saturday evening recently, we had a chance to go to one of the hype dessert stall which specialized in selling kakigori which was located on the 1st floor of Kelapa Gading Mall, the most popular shopping center in North Jakarta.

The name of the stall was THIS EARTH, quite fun to know that it could pronounce to DESSERT, to show the only thing that they sold, dessert.

From the outside it looked modern with dimmed color light with light grey color of the stall. It seemed modern and cool.

It was around 7 pm when we arrived there, we right away went to the order table. There were several customers before us. And we could see the menu that this stall had were all about desserts and drinks.

They had their special desserts, KAKIGORI, in many variants, they had lobi-lobi, peach yoghurt, strawberry, Thai tea, Hokkaido Milk Pudding, Yin & Yang, Hojicha, Milk Tea, Milo or Horlicks.

For the drinks, they had dessert drinks, with the variants as same as the kakigori, but this ones in drinks, it must be slushed iced drinks. They also had variants of drinks that were good for skin because it had collagen, in strawberry, lychee, grape, blueberry yuzu and peach mango flavour. They also had some cheese fruit tea in strawberry, grape, lychee or melon flavour. They also had some ice drinks like harlicks latte, lychee lavender fizz, honey lemon tea and strawberry fizz. Also they had boba sahek in brown sugar, earl grey, taro, strawberry, matcha brown sugar, oreo and biscoff flavour. Plus they had some kind of milk teas too there.

For you who wanted to share, they sold kakigori in share size which was bigger than the individual size.

We asked for the best seller kakigori so the seller offered us the Hokkaido Milk Pudding and Yin & Yang, after got the information about the toppings we then decided to order Hokkaido Milk Pudding.

We ordered and paid, before the stall made our order. For a Hokkaido Milk Pudding Kakigori in share size it costed 65K IDR and for a four seasons milk tea it costed 25K IDR, the price was exclude the tax so we paid 99K IDR or around 6.7 USD for the dessert we ordered. For your information, it was our first time there, so we never know the taste of kakigori and also the size of it.

After had ordered it, the barista would make our order, then he would call us after our order well prepared.

As you could see inside was nice. Not large but it was cozy, nice place to have dessert and some chit chat.

Inside they also had a stair chair, which could be climb then sit, but it wouldn’t be work well if we want to chit chat because the chairs were all for individuals only.

This chair was unique, and I saw some children ran there.. For another information for you, this place was clean, the waiter right away cleaned up the table after the customers went out.

After around 15 minutes of waiting time, the kakigori finished, the drink came only after 5 minutes of preparation. Here were some of the photos when we were enjoying our dessert time together…

The unique interior this place had was not only the stair chair, it also had the plastic cups décor right behind us.

When the kakigori came, the size was quite large, but unfortunately they didn’t have any smaller cups for us to share.

Here was the hype KAKIGORI

To make it stay cool they put the dry ice below the kakigori plastic single used only transparent plate, the plate itself had a shape below, like a cone. The shaved ice contained milk and tasted so sweet plus smooth, we even couldn’t say that it was shaved iced, because it was so smooth and tasty in sweet flavour. It also came with caramel syrup, almond slices, peanut crushed and mint leaves. Good thing was, it also contained milky soft pudding inside it. It came in large size for us to share, no other cups given so to share my student used her cup from the drink she also ordered that day. The dessert was tasty in sweet flavour (I wonder if they less a bit of the sweetness actually), but anyway it was perfect!

Nothing too special with the four seasons milk tea, besides the uncommon jelly that they give as the topping.

But you should come to try their kakigori!
