THE 4D FORMULA: MEETING WITH GOALS.

What is success? To many, success is the arrival at destination or the achievement of certain standards. Let's look at different versions/definitions of success...

The Oxford English Dictionary says, "The achievement of one's aim or goal."

This source says, the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.

And finally, Wikipedia says, "Success is the state or condition of meeting a defined range of expectations. It may be viewed as the opposite of failure."

If you look closely at these definition, one thing is common. Achievement. This goes on to say in very short words, "to be successful, you must be hardworking."

Achievement doesn't come by chance neither does it come by luck. To achieve signifies many works behind the scenes, series of actions building up to the climax of things.

SUCCESS STANDARDS...

Many believe Success to speak in form of wealth, connection and fame. While that is true, according success with such things has done a lot of harm on the little we do daily. To climb a mountain, you first need to take that one step.

The concept of success to many is the wrong one. The little task one set for themselves (like doing chores, attending to very little things in their lives) to achieve is process to success. Success isn't a huge mountain of achievements but a book of written & ticked off goals.

LIMITATIONS TO SUCCESS...

There are various limitations to success. I'll be listing a few based on personal experience.

Humans don't have their whole lives together no matter how much it seems they do. Any human who seems to be able to control his day/time does two things:

  1. They set goals.

  2. They meet them.

So what could be the limitations of Success? Remember, success doesn't necessarily mean you've attained great wealth or a popular name. Daily, we strive to succeed and daily many fail at it.

  1. The first limitation to success would be the famous procrastination. Thinking to do it and not actually doing it is the worse form of self harm because it comes with its repercussions.

  2. The second would be the inability to set priorities. Everyone has something which is more pressing than the other. Mind you, because you "feel" something should be a first priority, doesn't mean it is. Which is why you need to sit down and plan and also use some logic.

  3. The inability to set goals. People have this scary thought that goals are long lists of "unattainable" things. While it may be true in the sense that, Mr. A's strength can be more or less than Mr. B's, it is an absolute lie that goals are unattainable.

  4. The inability to think or as I'd like to say, the inability to use your mental gift.

These are all things I've experienced in the past and I'm writing about them because many would be able to relate. Fortunately, having an "inability" doesn't mean you're disabled. Which means it's innate and can be learned.

A wise man gave 4Ds to achieving success:

  1. Determination

  2. Deligence

  3. Discipline

  4. Dependability

I'm sure various things had crossed our minds as we read those enumerated points. However, the reason for this post is to share a secret hack to living a happier life.

HOW DO I START?

Living happier and feeling in control of your life comprises of trashing the feeling of self-pity and embracing the spirit of tenacity.

Which means you have to work on your goal setting technique, accountability, association and mental capability (orientation).

So how about we start small? For me, I plan what my whole day would be like the night before. I have a book where I construct what my day should be like and this has helped me a lot because when something unforseen pops up, my mind kicks in full gear so that I meet up with time. So instead of grumbling, I find myself solving. Saves more time.

Starting small is the best way to reaching to the top without stress. Patience with yourself is ultimate. This is the same thing I tell myself as I set daily goals. As time goes on, you can begin to give your brain stronger mental exercises by setting goals for the week, month, year and even have a five year plan.

I'll use a common example to share this. One of my goals for the month of March is to engage with 500 posts which means leaving 500 comments and 500 upvotes. Breaking it down further, I set weekly goals to curate 125 posts in 7days. Which mean, daily I have to curate atleast 18 posts.

To meet with this target, I have to put into account every other thing that requires time of day and allocate time to them according to how much I prioritize them. So I take a pen and my book then go ahead to write down my activities for the day.

This helps me walk with a mental picture of what my day is to be like. Goals can be in different forms; Spiritual, physical (fitness) or work goals. It all depends.

When it comes to my daily goal setting, I have to sit and take my time but the fun part is I have done the hard part. The only reason we feel disorganized is because we have no plans for our day.

So start small, trust me when I say it'll be really hard to keep in the discipline, deligence and determination needed to move forward. What I've learned in goal setting especially with baby steps is that I'd fall so many times and it'll be painful. It's just like learning to walk. That's why training your mind and renewing it is very critical. Mental exercises propels you to become a problem solver rather than a complainer.

Of course, I'm not perfect. This is all based on personal experience in these past weeks. Thanks to the 6 WEEKS LIFE AFRESH CHALLENGE, I really started afresh. It's never too late to begin again.

EXTRA! EXTRA!! EXTRA!!!

@deraaa you have no idea how much this line resonates with me. These past few weeks, I have spent quality time wallowing in self-pity instead of actually making a move in the right direction.
