I Like them Hard.

I think I became more inclined to physical touch recently that any other time in my life. I don't know for others but I really like to do stuff with my hands. And I do not know what to do with them when I am not holding anything.

I used to love E-books. And I still do except that I prefer e-books when reading certain types of literature. I had an e-library filled with Romance novels; so many of them, but then I changed my phone. Which was a good thing too because my screen time diminished by a lot. If you let me, I can finish an entire novel in one day.

For now, I do not have a strong preference between the two but I do like to hold a physical book and that is mostly when I am not reading fiction. The truth is, I took my self-growth journey seriously and decided to invest in myself. I prefer to buy the paper and have something to work with.

For example, I can make notes and use markers. Which is therapeutic if you ask me. I can return back to that book when I need to remind myself of something and read my notes. There is this sense of peace with lounging on the couch with my book.

Just a few days ago, I started feeling lost and what I did was take a shower, reach for my book of the month with a cup of coffee handy. It worked a lot when I went back to read those marked sentences that stirred fire within me.

I'm not saying you can't do these with the e-books. However, there is a particular level of focus you just can't have with e-books that you have with physical copies. Especially when it has to do with self-help/improvement. Non-fiction, to me, is preferable when it is physical. I mean even book clubs prefer to hold the physical.

All romance novels I have read is an e-book (except for some I found in my aunt's old library) and I enjoyed them a whole lot. Mostly because they are entertainment and do not require my full mental engagement. I enjoy myself deeply when I'm reading a Rom-Com, Drama, Harem or even dark literary fiction works.

But when it comes to Poetry, Prose, Non-fiction and even certain kinds of Thriller/Horror, I prefer the physical. As I mentioned before, I am able to flow along and engage fully. I have been on a journey for the past few months. My sweetheart, @jhymi can remember when I told her that I wanted to grow business and character wise. I haven't been as consistent with fiction because I am working on myself.

I won't lie though. There was a particular Non-fiction I enjoyed reading off my phone. Ikigai. One of the best self-help I have read this year.

If you notice, I am not so much of a minimalist when it comes to books. I splurge! Especially if that book is in relationship with a certain problem I have. Books tend to have those answers. I always find myself with new knowledge when I read books. So, I may spend more than 30% of my income on buying them. Wise or No wise? Ask my brain...

To conclude, currently, I prefer physical because of this personal journey I am on. I have been happier, lighter and more productive with my life. I am not where I want to be yet (it takes time and patience) but I am not where I used to be and the results I see around me are heavy reminders.

I would love to read your opinion though. Firstly, do you like to read? How do you like your books; physical or digital? You can tell me in the comments or you can share with us. Participate in the KISS WK #73. Make sure to read and adhere to the given rules.

Scratching and marking books is something that seemed like an abomination to me before I entered college, I learned quickly that sometimes it is necessary to make certain notations on paper, plus, it feels like a satisfying thing to have that left there, as a sign that you got to that point, that something caught your attention, that you were interested enough to highlight it.

I hope your personal journey continues to bear fruit, you seem to be very focused on this new stage of your life and I find it wonderful, many have not even begun to work on themselves, it is a shame because I consider that we ourselves are our best investment.

we ourselves are our best investment.

It was when I fully understood this statement that I began to really take care of myself. Previously, I saved money and would choose many other responsibilities over myself. But then I got to learn that confidence doesn’t just come with knowledge but feeling, smelling and looking good too. So while I invest in my mind, I also invest in my skin. Hehe.

I think we humans narrow self development by a whole lot. And if we can improve in the way we think, we would improve in all areas of our lives

It's ebooks for me, I actually looked at the shelf where I have a few books and with how some of them were dusty, it was evident that I hadn't touched them in a long while.

Then maybe you should. It will amaze you the new information you’d get from reading the same book over and over again.

That's excellent.

I can make notes and use markers.

I agree about the focus too:)

Thank you Milly. I see those are your books on the shelf in the picture? Guys and Dolls and other stories is it like short fiction stories all put in one cover? I read books like that…

We're on the same page on this issue of e-books/hardcopies. I prefer hard copies tbh for the same reason of bookmarking and the rest but ever since I found the "Readera" app, I've enjoyed e-books. The app helps me do a lot with my books. All in all, I'd pick hardcopies over digital books anytime anywhere. Be it fiction or nonfiction.

Hahahaha. Fiction here (especially the ones I read) can be expensive in Paper back. So I just stick with E-books in that aspects. What are the benefits of Readera? What does it have that inclines you so much?
