Christmas... and Then Winter Came Suddenly!

Technically speaking, we had a "White Christmas," because it started snowing around dusk on Christmas Day.

We've had a very mild fall and early winter... but this morning we woke up to this:

As is somewhat typical of the weather around here, things tend to change in a moment. It was looking rather dark and ominous all morning...

The view across the bay...

But then we suddenly had about 30 minutes of clear skies and sunshine; just enough to bundle up and get out with the camera to look around...

Contrast of white and green...

Unlike our usual snow around these parts — which occur right around freezing — it's actually quite cold, and getting colder.

The weather people say we will be in the deep freeze for a while.

OK by me, as we have lots of food in the freezer, and don't really need to go anywhere!

This time, our snowfall came without the usual high winds we get, so we have that lovely effect of little tufts of snow on every possible twig and leaf.

It was not long before the sun went away, and the dark gray clouds rolled in and started dumping more snow on us.

Donnie, our neighborhood snowplow driver, has been out plowing and spreading de-icer on the hills, but I'm still not inspired to go anywhere, anytime soon!

A few moments of blue sky!

We did have a rare white Christmas, but the day itself was an ice storm,

Enjoyed your snowy photos.

Always fun to see "tufts" of snow on assorted things.

We had a flip-flop fall, not in like the spongy summer shoe, but in there would be a few days of cold weather and then a few days of mild again. Just when you were sure it was headed into winter, there would be a warm, spring-like day or two. It has only been winter technically by the calendar for a few days, but the temps yesterday got up to 71. The last two winters have been milder that the norm around here and it was predicted that this one would be harsh in comparison. We are only at the beginning, so I guess time will tell, just like it always does.

Snow makes everything look magical.

Gorgeous photos brother. :)

I know very well that I do not always celebrate your pictures and I tend to focus on other things that you expose in your always very eloquent and thought provoking posts. But this time you didn't give me a chance to unleash my quirky and twisted sense of humor. Hahahaha

I wish you enjoy of excellent Christmas-Winter Holidays, always well warmly dressed for as long as necessary. :)
