Shadow Hunters Contest Round 186 Entry - Found On The Big Gunpowder Trail

avatar

This is my entry in the Shadow Hunters Contest Round 186 which is hosted by @melinda010100! You can learn more about the Shadow Hunters Contest and how to enter HERE!

I took the following photos recently while visiting the Big Gunpowder Falls State Park. I was on the Big Gunpowder Trail when I captured the following shadows. The first photo is my entry. I chose it as my entry because I just really like the minimalist look of it and as soon as I saw it I took a photo with the intention of using it as my entry.

Now that wasn't the only shadow that I caught while I was there but the next couple of shadows that I got were totally unintentional. However, I was delighted to see them once I was home and saw them on a big screen.

I did think about using the above dragonfly shadow as my entry but I believe it looks very similar to a different dragonfly shadow that I entered a while ago. I also got this other dragonfly shadow but the photo was so bad and blurry that I did an edit on it. I think it came out pretty good with the edit though!

Shadows are abundant on the trail on a sunny day!

When I walked up to this part of the trail I knew it would be a beautiful display of shadows! I took the following three photos as I approached and the third photo below had a magical feel to it with the dazzling display that dotted the trail!

When I spotted this next one it startled me a little bit! At first I thought it was a copperhead snake that was in the water but on closer examination I "believe" it is a just a water snake. My photo came out a little blurry but the shadow, especially of the snake's tail is nice and clear.

As I was marveling at the snake, I glanced over to my right and spotted this plant growing between some boulders. Upon closer examination I found it showed off some lovely slender shadows as well!

This is my last photo or photos. It is a collage of two edits that I did on my first photo. I couldn't decide which one to post so I chose both. I did think about doing an edit for my entry but I wanted to show it just as I found it! 💖

Eeek! You are brave to stop to take a photo of the snake. I would have taken off the other way as if I saw the devil himself. When I saw the snake photo, I couldn’t believe how long and big it was.

Love the cute acorn shadow and edits. Lovely shadows of the dragonfly and all the leaf shadows on the trail, especially the one that totally covered the trail.

Thanks so much Jo!! At first I thought it was a copperhead but felt more relieved thinking it is a water snake. My oldest sister had snakes some being 9 footers as has some other people in the family. I'm not a big fan myself but don't mind seeing a garter snake here or there..mostly there though..lol. 💕

I wish I didn’t have such a snake phobia. It wouldn’t matter if they were poisonous or not.I couldn’t go into your sister’s house if there was a snake in there. Seeing a 9 footer I would no doubt have a heart attack. It’s a phobia I think I picked up as a child as my mother was terrified of even a small garter snake. I remember her seeing one in the vegetable garden and running towards the house screaming , “run, run Joanna, run!”

I totally understand Jo! I do have a pretty big phobia myself but I don't talk about it especially since I confided in a sister-in-law and she used it against me. She isn't my sil anymore and she wasn't a very nice person overall. I remember once a big black snake lunged at my mom when she was in her garden once. I'm not a fan of snakes in general and could never bring myself to feed a little critter to one. I hope I didn't cause you to have any bad dreams about snakes. I know it doesn't take much for me to have bad dreams. I hope you have a great rest of the week. Much love!! 💕

Not to worry Dee. I’m a little better about snakes as one time I couldn’t even look at one in a book.

Sorry your former SIL was using personal information against you. Not a nice person. I’ve known a few with that kind of mentality.

The week has been going good.My sister and her husband made a quick visit. They came across on the Wood Islands Ferry. It was great to see her. We hadn’t seen each other for over a year since the pandemic started.

We got some rain from Hurricane Larry last night and probably wind tonight. It’s staying out to sea and hopefully keeps out there.

Have a wonderful Friday, my friend.💕

I love the acorn shadow! These are all excellent shadow photos. I do love dragonflies and the shadow is marvelous. I'm not sure that I have ever seen a snake shadow before. Wonderful shadowy post! Thanks for entering the Shadow Contest again! ❤️

Thank you very much Melinda!! I love capturing dragonflies and damselflies. The snake was a "nice" surprise and I was even happier when I saw it had a shadow. 😊

Love the shadows of your post even of the snake. 😉
I probably would forget about the csmera if I see a snake.
The dragonfly is my favourite and the acorn.
