Feathered Friends SMAP Contest Entry - Raptors or Birds Of Prey ~ A Bald Eagle

This is my entry for the Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 41! The theme for this round is "Raptors or Birds Of Prey". You can learn more about the contest and how to enter HERE!

My first photo of this Bald Eagle is my entry!

I took all of the Bald Eagle photos in this post while I was on the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail in Harford County, Maryland. The Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail is adjacent to the Conowingo Fisherman's Park. People travel from all over to try to photograph the Bald Eagles here.

My husband and I happened to be in the area last week when we decided to stop at the Conowingo to take a short walk and check out the scenery. I was hoping to see a Bald Eagle to photograph for SMAP but if not then I could get some new shots of the Black Vultures there. Black Vultures would have also fallen into the "raptor" category but, surprisingly, we saw very few while we were there.

I guess you could say that this was one instance that luck was on my side and that a few of my photos of the Bald Eagle came out fairly nice looking considering how far away the Bald Eagle was. Lucky too that my husband has a keen eye for spotting them perched way up high in the trees. We both heard it but he was the one that spied and pointed the Bald Eagle out to me.

I think the the Bald Eagle is not only a majestic bird but fierce looking as well. I think that comes from their intense looking eyes. I had to laugh at seeing its one claw clenched up like it was just ready to punch somebody ... lol. Sorry, but now that I've said it and you see it, it's hard to not see it! Am I right?! I'll just be going now! 😁

I have a female Harris's hawk. Sometimes she also do that. And sometimes she is also sitting with leg on my arm, and the other leg pulled up.

Thanks @xplosive!! I've noticed that a lot of birds do that also and will sometimes fall asleep like that. Harris's hawks are a pretty cool looking bird. Of course, I think hawks in general are pretty cool. I just recently photographed a Red-tailed hawk in my neighbor's yard. He saw it and called me because he knows I take photos for my blog here. I can hear hawks quite often and see them mostly perched up on light poles along the highways. Wishing you a beautiful weekend there! 💖

Lovely catch off the Bald Eagle on your walk Dee, well done. He is a beauty.
And yes he is looking very serious and clenching is claw. I wonder if he wanted his little space invade by humans? Sending hugs💗

Thank you so much Angie!! He sure is! He was pretty far away and up high in a tree. I like to see them more on the trail since they are usually perched in a tree and I have a better chance of getting a photo..lol. Hugs back! 🤗

Thanks so much @buckaroobaby!! It is such a joy to see them. Often times I miss getting a photo but I was lucky on this visit as the Eagle was resting in the tree. Lol..that claw still give me a laugh. 😊💖

I know that missed photo opporunity! I miss more often than capture them! We took a drive up the valley recently and I actually grabbed my camera as we headed off impulsively. Took some special photos of some Goshawk's (did a post) but I still missed a lot because it was so windy most of the photos were blurred. Or the predators took off!

I know that feeling. I feel like I take way too many photos because I know at least half will be blurry so I try to compensate and hope I get some good ones..lol. 🙂
