A True and Scary Story For Halloween 2022

Gee! I hope I got this in on time for the Halloween Challenge by @hivebuzz! If not then I still hope you enjoy reading my story and seeing my photos!

The story that I'm about to tell you is a true story that I experienced several years back. Some of you may remember that one of my hobbies was Ghost Hunting and I did that with a local group here in the Baltimore area. Just about everyone in my family including nieces and nephews have had ghostly experiences all of our lives. Now, it isn't something we have any control over so any thoughts you may have of me attempting to contact long departed grandma or such is out of the question. I did join the group though to get over some of the fear that would come from having some of these experiences but being less fearful is a lot easier when you're in a group and for the most part my experiences usually happened when I was alone. Go figure!

You, reading this, may not find it very scary but it certainly was for me as it was the first time that I witnessed a Spirit jump into a living person. I will be changing some names in my story which began one night when our group went to investigate The Benson-Hammond House located at 7101 Aviation Blvd in Linthicum Heights, Maryland 21090.

My friend (Ron) picked me up that evening and we met the other members of the group at the house. There were probably less than a dozen of us there from what I remember. The house is historic and somewhat plain looking I thought. I found the windows interesting and I always find myself looking up to them to see if someone no longer living might be staring back. It hasn't happened yet but you never know!

Inside the house was mostly lovely with the antique furnishings.

Most of the upstairs was nicely furnished with the exception (for me anyway) of a large area of old dolls. Felt just a little creepy for me! Most were behind glass cases but not all of them. We had to be careful not to touch anything. Some areas were roped off but some were not but we all knew to be extra careful and definitely not to sit on any of the chairs or beds.

This was the first room that Ron and I were in. Ron had some terrific Ghost hunting equipment. A camera is a must but in addition to that he had a REM-POD which will alert you by lights and sounds if a Spirit comes close and or attempts to communicate. He also had a Mel Meter which basically does the same thing and measures fluctuations in temperature and EMF fields. I had my camera and a basic EMF meter. Now Ron was a character! He could be a serious investigator but sometimes before he would get serious he would joke around a bit. We were in this room and he was joking around and we both started laughing but I thought it best to split up and get down to the business of Ghost Hunting.

We were allowed a certain amount of time inside before we were called downstairs to regroup and walk around the grounds outside. I walked around the grounds some but around the back of the house I almost walked into this huge Orb spider web. You can see the spider in my photo but trust me the web was huge! No thank you and I laughed to myself thinking how much Ron disliked spiders and thought I should warn him about going back there.

However, it was at this time that we realized that Ron was missing from the group. We looked around outside and the first floor of the house but no Ron. The leader of the group kept looking outside while myself and another member (Benny) called for Ron from inside the house. It was when Benny and I were alone in the house that we heard the REM-POD and Mel Meter going off loudly upstairs. This may have been the room that we found Ron in. He was sitting on the floor in a trance like state with the equipment alerts going off. I've NEVER seen these meters go off the way they were .. not even on the Ghost Hunting shows on the television. Benny and I called out to Ron who easily stood up and walked out of the room, down the stairs and outside. I say Ron easily stood up because Ron is a "big" guy and I've never really seen him get up so easily after sitting crossed legged on a floor.

As soon as Ron left the room the meters stopped "screaming". Benny and I collected the meters and headed downstairs and outside. Ron was definitely acting very strange and spoke to no one as he walked around the yard and house. Benny along with a couple of other members noticed something even more wrong with his strange behavior and that was that his eyes were completely black. It was then that the leader went out to Ron who was still roaming the yard. The group leader stopped him from walking and stood in front of him for some time before they both walked back to the porch where myself and the other members watched from. We don't know what the group leader said and or did but Ron's eyes were back to normal and Ron seemed present mentally but still somewhat confused and disoriented. We explained what had happened which seemed to help Ron a little. I knew also when Ron walked around outside with all of the Orb spider webs that Ron had been "jumped" by a Spirit. Luckily, the group leader was able to dispel the Spirit out of Ron. I, however, had to get a ride back home with Ron and he still seemed not quite himself yet. Obviously, I made it back home safely but it was a quiet ride back. I asked Ron if he wanted to talk about it but he said he couldn't and didn't want to so I left it alone. After a few days Ron called me and said he knew what had happened because the Spirit came to him in a dream. He said it was the man that was in the picture in the house so I think it was probably one of the men in these photos that I took.

Ron also said that the Spirit just wanted to walk around the grounds again as he wasn't able to do so. Ron said he was okay with that and understood now why he "jumped" into him that night. The thing is that, seriously, it is never okay for a Spirit to do that and Ron I think knew that and should not have been okay with it. I mean it happened, it was over with but it was not okay. I think though it could easily have happened to any one of us or could happen to anyone in life. As a Spirit, I would think you could glide around the grounds if you wanted so why did he feel the need to violate a living person. Who knows?!

I don't belong to the group anymore because the group disbanded for the most part. Never really helped me with any fear I had because more often than not "things" happen when I'm alone or sometimes I'll see something in the middle of the night. Usually, I let out a yell and my husband is there to tell me it's .. I'm alright. The last couple of years it has happened a lot where I see people and faces. No one I know. Mostly, I let out a yell because it is very startling and only sometimes I curl up closer to my husband and can fall back asleep. I'm also not ashamed to say that when it is dark and I'm alone, because my husband leaves for work very early in the mornings or may go out once in a while with friends, I do have to have a light on and or the television. Thanks for letting me share my story! It may not have been too scary to read but it sure as heck was scary when it happened. Ron, sadly, passed away a few years ago. I miss his silliness and our Ghost Hunting adventures together .. well .. most of them anyway! 💖

Some of my fondest memories in life are the Halloween's with my siblings when we were little ones. Dressing up to go Trick or Treat. Afterwards, we would gather around for our sorting and trade-offs of our candies.
