The Traveler
The village of Hiverington was such a small settlement where a small group of villagers lived happily. To the south of the village was the shore to the sea, while to the north was a vast desert.

A lone traveler emerged from the sea one certain day and came directly to the village. He decided to build a place to stay just a stone throw to the village, intending to live side by side with the villagers. However, during this period the traveler was living with them, something disastrous happened to the village.
A group of raiders terrorised the village along with a wave of some starving undeads who often creeps from the desert to the village. In no time, the village became a dead village. The traveler who went into the bush to get some food realized what was happening late and before he came back, the village was already in ruins.
The traveler became the only survivor, and even though he wasn't even part of the village to start with, the lost of life in the village grieved him greatly. Despite the loss, the traveler stayed back in the village. He vowed to revenge the villagers and when he found a way to do so, he went in search of the raiders that once terrorised the village and destroyed all of them. He also found a way to repel the horde of the undeads, preventing them to roam freely in the now dead village.
After he must have accomplished his mission, he then decided to make something out of the ruins of the village. He re-built most of the buildings, and built a temple to the south of the village. All these he did singlehandedly through years and years. Sometimes he would travel away from the village, finding another settlements and wonders in the world, but in the end,he would always came back to that grave of a village.
Years and years and years passed by. No one knew how long the traveler stayed there. Not even the traveler himself counted the passing time. He continued staying there until one day, somehow, he figured out a way to bring back life to the village. Up till today, no one knew exactly how he did it. The early souls that he managed to bring back into the village couldn't recall how the traveler did it to them.
Whenever the traveler brought back another new soul to the village, it would be done in the night and the night is a dangerous time when all kind of evils happen. A normal person could hardly stay alive through the night if they were out in the wild, and that was why the traveler would always tell the villagers to get home before the sun set and only come out after the sun rise.
Only the traveler could roam in the night, and survive for years and years. The villagers still did not know much about the traveler since he spoke so little of himself. They only knew that the traveler was powerful, and that he would protect the village at all cost.
As at today, no one has seen the legendary traveler again after he left the village a long time ago upon completing his mission of bringing the villagers back to life and protecting them from all dangers. It is said that he once again wandered the vast world but no one knows the actual truth because over the years, a rumour or story of a peculiar traveler would always be heard in the village.
A story of a beautiful woman, or perhaps a handsome man, who came to the village to greet it's inhabitants as if they were normal travelers were heard time and time again. These travelers would be sighted either near the abandoned house that's close to the hill by the southwest where the legendary traveler used to live, or near the temple that no one dared to enter, and they would vanish into the night once their visit was over.
The villagers never stopped telling the story of the immortal traveler to anyone who cared to listen and they idolised him as their saviour and guardian.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Taking it upon himself to rebuild the village singlehandedly is a big and tell how much of a good heart the stranger possesses. If he could prevent the danger before it happened, things could have been completely different.
Nice tale, good to have you hear buddy.
Remember me?
Of course I remember you. It's been a while. Good to be back.
The traveler realized what was happening so late and just as you rightly said, had it been he knew what was happening on time, it would have been a different ball game.

The villagers were very luck that the traveler knew how to fend off zombies and bring people back to life from the dead.
Consider adding action and dialogue to your stories. This story is all "narrative," and the result is that it seems like a summary of the story instead of storytelling. We recommend our article on this topic, Action, Dialogue and Narrative - The Dynamic Trio, as well as our other helpful articles on important storytelling elements like character building, which you an find in our catalog of fiction writing tips.
Thanks so much for your feedback. I would put this in mind in my next entry. I actually didn't want to do too much with it since we are against violence here but thanks for pointing that out.
He's a strong man indeed. But I thought he built the temple to be a place of worship for the villagers? How come it's out of reach to them? One day, an explorer would visit the village and would definitely enter all those places the villagers fear to.
That's the irony here. The villagers actually didn't see it as a worship place and that's why they were scared of it.
Nice story. If only the Traveller knew that the village will be attacked, he wouldn't have gone anywhere, but I guess it all happened fast. Thank God he was able to restore the village with his powers and also protect them from danger
Yea... It all happened so fast. Thanks for your feedback.
