The Time I Almost Killed A Couple On The Beach 9.13.2021
This was a long time ago when I was a teenager. I was on a trip to Mexico with the YMCA. I went with my cousin. This took place I believe in 1976 during spring break and I was a junior in high school at the time.
One of the counselors let us know that we could go horseback riding for 6 or 7 dollars. My cousin looked at me, in a way that let me know that he really wanted to go horseback riding. Well, my cousin and I got up early the next day and went with some of the other kids that wanted to go horseback riding.
Well, by the time we gave the money, when my cousin and I finally got our horses, we actually got mules. So maybe they ran out of horses. So for awhile it was OK, but after awhile the mules didn't want to move or just moved too slow for us.
Well, I went back to the guy that gave us the mules and I complained that my mule was too slow. Well, the guy looked at me, then he told, I believe was his daughter, a very young girl, something and I heard her say, No pappa, no. That should have been my cue and I should have just took my mule and had the best of it.
Well, the father said something, to her and she went and got what looked to me like a giant horse. I mean I seen the horses that people were getting on, but this horse was really large. To this day, I tell people I thought the horse was like a cousin to Secretariat.
Well, anyway the guy tells me to get on, and not in a nice way. So I got on this giant horse, then the guy yelled, ándele and at the same time he slapped the ass of this giant horse.
It was a good thing that I knew how to pop a wheelie on a motorcycle, you see when the guy did that to the horse, the horse went up in his hind legs and I went with it like I would when popping a wheelie, only with a horse it is more scarier.
Then the horse ran, and it ran like a horse that finally got his chance to really run, the thing is, that at that time I didn't know how to control a horse. Before I knew it the horse was on the beach running like a horse going into battle.
Great, I thought, I am on a crazy horse and I don't know the basics like how to turn left or right or how to slow down the horse. I should have asked people before I got on a horse. As a teenager, I guess such questions, slip my mind.
Well, the horse still thought he was on a battle attack and we were running straight to a couple on the beach, they were just enjoying watching the waves break on the beach.
So I was hoping that they would turn around and look at me, as this crazy horse was running at full throttle toward that couple, I was thinking, please look at me and get out of the way.
Well, they finally looked at me and jumped out of the way and the horse actually ran right over their beach towels that they were lying on.
I thought, Oh good, the couple are safe and I didn't kill them. The horse kept on running. I let it run and eventually the horse got tired. Then some of the guys with the YMCA trip rode up to me and one said, I seen you riding on the beach with that horse, how did you get that horse? I guess they all wanted a horse like the one I was riding.
Another in our group wanted to trade horses, and I did as I didn't really want to ride that giant horse anymore.
I am so happy , that the loving couple seen me and jumped out of the way.
Let's end with scripture, as it is written, with God speaking, Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils terrible. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that the sound of the trumpet. He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. Job 39:19-25.
