I think the best way to view the Canadian Rockies may be from the back seat of a railway car. Can you imagine? I got to get me a job as a railroader! Photos taken inside Jasper National Park, Alberta. In case you haven’t heard there is a new Hive Community called “Colour / Black & White” dedicated for people who like both Colour and Black & White photography. I will be personally curating qualified posts.

What is not to love about being a railroader! Besides, they have an enviable retirement plan! Nice shot of them all lined up and being pulled!

I have to say, I am still in love with the color of these. Poppin pretty.

What is the largest number of trains have you counted being pulled?

That is a lot of trains!

I lived in the Southwest in four different locations over the year, usually for a school. When I lived in Texas, one of the train crossings was near my house, and everyone who had to cross it had a magazine or book on their front seat. (Can you believe it was in a DEAD spot for cell phones????) They changed the law in Texas because the trains were so long, and people were late for work and school!!!

A railway company commits an offense if a train of the railway company obstructs for more than 10 minutes a street, railroad crossing, or public highway. (b) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $100 or more than $300.

I am pretty sure they don't ever ticket them!

The average train there was 70 cars, but can pull up to 295 cars with 618 piggy-backed shipping containers. There is no limit.

Holy Moly! I didn't know that.

It seems unbelievable that a train can pull that much, but they do. Fascinating, unless you are in a hurry....which is most of the time.

Riding through God's country! It has been years since I have been on a train. I would love to again.

If I was not so busy being a Rock Star I would consider it. It would have nice views.

I'd love a job on the rails!
As it is, I spend too much time on my virtual model rails. Sometimes on my real model HO railroad

I’d be curious to see how those b&w photos look with the train cars colorized.

I think it would look nice.

I was actually surprised by the length of the trains in the States on my recent trip back. I had forgotten all about getting stuck railroad crossings. I took a partial video of one. I’ll have to look at it and count the cars to see if compares to the trains dswigle mentioned.

Must be a North American thing, these super long trains. They go right through the city I live in, holding up traffic at the wrong times.
