Up-Down Top to The Crown

Madrid started the campaign roaring and demolishing everyone on their way, who had opened the defense of their crown with three consecutive triumphs. There is no denying they wanted to make it four. Both the players and supporters were determined to overcome their current adversary, who was accompanying Madrid since the beginning of this season after the display of European titles won in the previous season.

Madrid were up against a team in Betis who also had a 100 percent record so far this season. Manuel Pellegrini’s team won the Copa del Rey last season and were sure to present a stern test at Santiago Bernabeu.

Betis were unbeaten in their last six LaLiga matches (W5 D1), keeping five clean sheets, including winning all three they have played in the current campaign. They have not started a top-flight season with four wins since 2011/12 (W4).

Madrid enjoyed some early possession as they look to ease into proceedings. Alaba was given time to stroll out from defense and placed a sublime pass over the top of Betis' line. Vinicius was simply too quick, and, having just stayed onside, he got beyond Gonzalez and lofted a sublime finish over Silva. It's 1-0 to Madrid. What a finish that was, and it's as simple as it came for Madrid as Vinicius put the hosts ahead

Vinicius has been involved in three goals in his last two LaLiga games (three goals, one assist) – only Benzema (21) and Iago Aspas (17) have more goal involvements than the Brazilian in LaLiga in 2022 (16 - nine goals, seven assists).

Betis were already too sad about Vinicius being too good, and another blow for Betis, with Fekir, forced to make way with injury. Luiz Henrique came on in his place.

This, of course, was the first game Madrid had played at the fully refurbished Santiago Bernabeu. So far, Los Blancos were delivering for the fans in attendance. But a brilliant hold-up play from Iglesias, who was too strong for his marker and had the quality to lay it off to former Madrid playmaker Canales, changed the mood in Bernabeu. Madrid looked extremely comfortable, but Betis hit back. Iglesias flicked a throw-in back to the onrushing midfielder, whose low strike found a way through Courtois. It's 1-1!

So far, Madrid enjoyed the most success when capitalizing on Betis' high line, drawing their visitors out and up the pitch before lofting a ball through for Vinicius to chase. It was all Madrid since Betis' equalizer, but it remained 1-1.

Madrid haven’t won any of their last five LaLiga home games against Betis (D3 L2) and could have equaled their worst winless run at home against the same opponent in the competition’s history (six against Valencia in March 1948 and Atletico Madrid in September 2018).

Madrid piled the attacks on Betis' goal since the visitors equalized, with Vinicius missing a great chance and Silva making a fine save.

Madrid have won their first three games of a season in LaLiga for the sixth time in the 21st century, the last time being in 2018-19. Los Blancos have gone on to win the title on five of the last seven occasions they have won their first four league games of the season, most recently in 2016-17. And to achieve that again was the ideology of finding the lead today once again.

Who else to the rescue, the guy who lives to serve Madrid, the guy who gives it all in any day, any time. Of course, Ancelotti only brought Valverde on, but what a way to make your mark on the game! An inspired substitution, the Uruguayan has turned this game back in Madrid's favor. ** Valverde ghosted in behind Rodriguez to take Caravajal's pass and, with his first touch, cut the ball back from the byline to Rodrygo, who prodded it beyond Silva from close range to make it 2-1 to Real Madrid! Just 69 seconds took place between Valverde coming onto the pitch and setting up that goal**

Betis coach Pellegrini has won just 15.8 percent of his 19 games against Real Madrid in LaLiga (W3 D7 L9), his lowest percentage against the same opponent he has faced on at least three occasions in the competition. It’s just growing bigger and bigger. After Barcelona, he has the most right to hate the Club of the century.

The momentum built by Betis before Rodrygo's goal vanished entirely since Real went 2-1 up; it was one-way traffic for Madrid since, who looked extremely capable of adding to their lead. But the score-line was halted to the end of the match.

Madrid have gone four LaLiga games in a row without losing against Betis (W2 D2) before facing them today as they made it five, keeping a clean sheet in the last three (W1 D2) which is no more appropriate after today’s entertainer in Betis.

Vinicius' partnership with his captain Benzema was, as ever, enthralling to watch. Between them, the pair managed eight shots, six key passes, and three crosses, with Vinicius having 12 touches in the box and Benzema passing 36 times in the final third. Dynamic duo.

Real's success means they're currently the only team with a 100 percent record to start the season - played four, won four. Betis sit a notch behind them in second, having just lost points for the first time this season at the Bernabeu, and shouldn't be disheartened by being trounced by Los Blancos away from home. The conquerors have that title for a reason, and based on what we've seen so far this season, it's going to be one hell of a challenge to prevent them from going back-to-back.

The Don made yet another history with The Royal Madrid.
