Antalya Museum & Waterfalls & Cable Car Tour - Haftasonu Gezimiz (English - Turkish)

avatar

Hi guys! How are you? I hope you’re staying healthy. This weekend has come and gone so fast, I made so many wonderful memories. We traveled a lot with my friend Ali. Ali is my neighbor's little son. He got a little bored when all the kids he played with went somewhere. The people of Antalya generally move to the highlands during these months and stay there until the heat passes. When his mother told me about the situation, I said let's take a ride. I am glad we did. We had a very fun day. First we stopped by the Duden waterfalls, then the Antalya museum and the Tunektepe cable car.

muze_afrodit.jpg

We started our tour with Duden waterfalls in the morning. When we say Antalya, the first thing that comes to mind is the sea, sun and sand, but there are many more things to see and do here. Ancient cities can be visited, museums can be visited, there are many amusement parks etc... Of course, we can add waterfalls to the list. There are many natural wonders waterfalls here. Although Duden, Kursunlu, Manavgat and Ucansu are the most well-known ones, there are also hidden paradises such as Sapadere and Degirmendere.

teleferik94.jpg

Duden Waterfalls - Düden Şelalesi

The Duden waterfall we visited has this name because it takes its source from the Duden river. The Duden river splits into two branches and forms two waterfalls. This waterfall is located 10 km from the city center. The other waterfall spills into the sea on the Lara side. To avoid confusion, these two waterfalls are named Upper and Lower. The name of the one we went to is Upper Duden waterfall. Don't be surprised if you hear people calling this waterfall Alexander Falls. According to rumors, Alexander the Great stopped here when he conquered the Pamphylia region. Pamphylia is today's Antalya. When I first learned the meaning of the name Pamphylia, I was very surprised. It means the land of mixed peoples, nations. People of various nationalities have lived here for centuries. It still is. Everyone feels at home here.

duden_ust.jpg

We first looked at the Duden / Alexander waterfall from above. It has an amazing view. A nice place to escape the heat of Antalya. There are tables for picnics. Barbecuing is prohibited, but you can bring your own food and have a picnic in the peaceful environment of water and bird sounds.

resim.png

resim.png

Then we went down and got a little closer to the waterfall. It's a very peaceful environment. But we are not content with looking from afar, we head towards the caves. The only way to pass under the waterfall is to enter these caves.

duden_magara.jpg

duden_magara1.jpg

As we approach the caves, we can hear the sounds of bats. The cave is their natural habitat. We shouldn't bother too much. They hide in the upper parts of caves during hot hours. Here, bat fertilizers are used on the trees around the waterfall. When it gets dark, they fly and start hunting. Sometimes they lose their way and come to our homes 😀

Mağaralara yaklaşınca yarasa seslerini duyabiliyoruz. Mağara onların doğal yaşam alanı. Fazla rahatsız etmememiz gerekiyor. Sıcak saatlerde mağaraların üst kısımlarında saklanıyorlar. Burada yarasa gübreleri şelale etrafındaki ağaçlarda kullanılıyor. Karanlık çökünce uçup avlanmaya başlıyorlar. Bazen yollarını kaybedip evlerimize girdikleri oluyor 😀

duden_yarasa.jpg

We're sure to get wet in the caves. This is right under the waterfall. The walls are covered with algae. Wet floors are a bit slippery. Although, based on experience, I can say that dry floors are also very slippery when covered with algae.

Mağaralarda ıslanacağımız kesin. Burası şelalenin tam altı. Duvarlar yosunlarla kaplı. Islak zeminler biraz kaygan.

duden_magara2.jpg

We went further through the caves and reached the bottom of the waterfall. It's definitely worth coming here and getting wet.

Mağaralarda ilerleyip şelalenin altına ulaşıyoruz. Buraya kadar gelip ıslanmaya kesinlikle değer.

resim.png

After spending a few hours in this wonderful place in the bosom of nature, we proceeded towards the exit. Here, this sarcophagus cover caught Ali's attention. He walked around and looked at the cover with interest, asking questions. Should we make him an archaeologist when he grows up 🙂 Just kidding, I wish him to do whatever he likes when he grows up. I remember when I wanted to be an archaeologist as a kid. I thought I was going to be Lara Croft when I grew up 😀

duden_lahit.jpg

Actually, we didn't plan where we would go after Duden in the morning. But when we saw the interest of the child to the sarcophagus cover, we thought why not Antalya museum. It is one of the beautiful museums that everyone from children to adults visit with interest. For this reason, we turn our route to the Antalya Museum. I think it is one of the best places to go in the heat of noon.

The map of ancient Antalya welcomes us at the entrance to the museum. Here we can see the ancient names of the cities in the region. Most of these cities have survived to this day and are open to visitors. In my previous post I had visited two of them - Myra and Andriake. There are many more ancient cities to visit in the region.

muze_giris.jpg

The halls, where the items unearthed from ancient cities are exhibited, were our first place to visit. Here we examine with interest the items used in various Roman periods. Especially the drink containers are very interesting.

Antik kentlerden çıkarılan eşyaların sergilendiği salonlar ilk ziyaret yerimiz oluyor. Burada çeşitli Roma dönemlerinde kullanılan eşyaları ilgiyle inceliyoruz. Özellikle içki kapları çok ilgi çekici.

These containers, called Rhyton, were sometimes used as drink containers and sometimes for liquids in religious ceremonies.

Lagynos is another interesting container used to put wine in it.

Maybe you remember the church of St. Nicholas that I shared with you recently. These are some of the items found in the church.

Geçen sizlerle paylaştığım St. Nicholas kilisesini belki hatırlarsınız. Bu eşyalar da kilisede bulunanlar arasında.

muze_kilise.jpg

Next are the sculptures made in ancient times. All of these statues were found in the city of Perge.

Sırada antik dönemde yapılmış heykeller var. Bu heykellerin tamamı Perge kentinden çıkarılmış.

Hadrianus - Famous Roman Emperor - 2nd century AD

It is possible to come across many historical structures built in the name of Emperor Hadrian in the Antalya region. The most famous of these is Üçkapılar, which is located in the center of Antalya today. Located at the entrance of Kaleiçi, Üçkapılar was built in honor of Hadrian's visit to the region.

Hadrianus - Ünlü Roma İmparatoru - İ.S. 2. yüzyıl

Antalya bölgesinde imparator Hadrianus'un adına yapılmış çok sayıda tarihi esere rastlamak mümkün. Bunlardan en ünlüsü bugün Antalya'nın merkesinde bulunan Üçkapılar'dır. Kaleiçi'nin girişinde yer alan Üçkapılar Hadrianus'un bölgeye ziyaretinin şerefine yaptırılmıştır.

muze_hadrianos.jpg

Traianus - Another famous Roman Emperor - 2nd century AD

During his reign, the borders of the Roman empire expanded greatly. In order to show that the emperor was magnificent, the soldier statue next to him was made short.

Traianus - Bir başka ünlü Roma İmparatoru - İ.S. 2. yüzyıl

Döneminde Roma imparatorluğunun sınırları çok genişlemiştir. Heykelde imparatorun görkemli olduğunu göstermek için yanındaki asker heykeli kısa boylu yapılmış.

Plancia Magna - A woman who played an important role in the history of the city of Perge. Coming from a very wealthy family, Plancia spent her fortune on many buildings in the city.

muze_plancia.jpg

Aphrodite - Goddess of beauty and love. If you watched the movie Troy, you probably remember that Aphrodite was on the side of the lovers, namely Paris and Helen.

Afrodit - Güzellik ve aşkın tanrıçası. Truva filmini izlediyseniz hatırlarsınız Afrodit aşıkların yani Paris ve Helen'in tarafında yer alıyordu.

muze_afrodit2.jpg

Athena - Goddess of intelligence, art and wisdom. Zeus' beloved daughter. She was on the side of the Achaeans in the Trojan War, unlike Aphrodite.

Personally, I wouldn't take either side. But it's hard not to admire Achilles 🙂

Athena - Zeka, sanat ve bilgelik tanrıçası. Zeus'un çok sevdiği kızı. Truva savaşında Afrodit'in aksine Akhalıların tarafındaydı.

Şahsen ben her iki tarafı da tutmuyordum. Ama Achilles'e hayran olmamak biraz zor 🙂

muze_athena.jpg

Artemis - goddess of the hunt, twin sister of Apollo.

Artemis - Av tanrıçası, Apollon'un ikiz kardeşi.

muze_artemis.jpg

Apollon - God of music and art.

Apollon - Müzik ve sanatın tanrısı.

Then it's time in the sarcophagus hall. It is possible to see children's, adults and even dog sarcophagi made in ancient times here.

Daha sonra lahitler salonuna sıra geliyor. Burada eski çağda yapılmış çocuk, büyük hatta köpek lahitlerini görmek mümkün.

muze_lahit.jpg

lahit_cocuk.jpg

Medusa heads and theater masks are among the symbols we frequently encounter in sarcophagi. There was a belief that the head of Medusa protected the tomb from evil.

Medusa başları ve tiyatro maskeleri lahitlerde sık karşılaştığımız simgelerden. Medusa başının mezarı kötülüklerden koruduğu inancı vardı.

muze_lahit2.jpg

The Heracles sarcophagus was once smuggled from here and was spotted at Swiss customs and returned. It is not a small item to fit in a pocket, it is incomprehensible how it is smuggled.

lahit_herakles.jpg

It is possible to see human figures on the cover of some sarcophagi. These are statues of people buried in them. The sarcophagus is referred to as sarcophagi in many languages. It also means something like "meat eater". They gave it such a name because the corpses inside were rotting.

lahit_kapagi.jpg

Leaving the museum is not easy. There was one more section we wanted to see, but it's currently closed due to renovations or a pandemic. There is a section where old coins are displayed. Maybe we'll find it open when we come next time.

muze_lahit3.jpg

This peacock we encountered when we went out to the garden brings to my mind only one name - Hera. It means a lot imo to have this bird here.

Various souvenirs are sold in the gift shop of the museum.

Müzenin hediyelik eşya dükkanında çeşitli hediyelikler satılıyor.

Our next stop is Tünektepe Cable Car. When we reach here, the weather changes and clouds cover the sky. On the one hand, we are glad that it will be cool. But in sunny weather, the view here is undoubtedly much more beautiful.

teleferik1.jpg

Tunektepe Cable Car - Tünektepe Teleferik

If you've been to Antalya before, maybe you've seen the restaurant on top of the mountains that can be seen from many points. In the past, this restaurant, which is called Doner Gazino (Rotating Nightclub), was only reached by cars. What makes this place special, first of all, is the view. A place where you can have a bird's eye view of Antalya. Also Doner Gazino used to really spin. When you sit in the restaurant, you could see a different view all the time. Over time, the restaurant was closed and a cable car was built here.

Burayı özel yapan şey her şeyden önce manzarası. Antalya'ya kuşbakışı bakabileceğiniz bir yer. Bir de eskiden Döner gazino gerçekten dönüyordu. Restoranta oturduğunuzda sürekli başka bir manzara izlenebiliyordu. Zamanla restorant kapandı ve buraya teleferik yapıldı.

teleferik_donergazino.jpg

Here we take the cable car to the hill called Tünektepe, which is 618 meters high. A very nice experience. Children are very happy, adults are afraid 😀 If you ask me, there is not much to be afraid of. It is called adrenaline, but for true adrenaline enthusiasts, this place is no different than getting on the amusement cars.

teleferik2.jpg

teleferik3.jpg

The lengths of the cables are 1706 meters. The higher you go, the more beautiful the scenery gets. Here the Mouse Island, the harbor, the cliffs and the whole of Antalya can be viewed.

Kabloların uzunlukları 1706 metre. Yukarılara çıktıkça giderek manzara daha da güzelleşiyor. Burada Sıçan adası, liman, falezler ve tüm Antalya izlenebiliyor.

teleferik93.jpg

teleferik91.jpg

When I was passing by this island with buses, I always asked the tourists, what does the island look like? Turtles were dominant in the answers 🙂 There were also those who said rabbit or something, but so far, not many people said rat. In other words, it is said that it got this name because it resembles a rat, but there are other animals that it resembles more. Since there are too many seagulls on the island, there have been some requests to call it "Seagull Island" for a while, but for now there are no news in this regard.

teleferik_ada.jpg

teleferik92.jpg

Tea time.

Gelmişken bir çay içmeden dönülmez sanki.

teleferik_cay.jpg

The name of the region where the start of the cable car is located is Sarısu. You can camp or swim here. The beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles.

Teleferik başlangıcının bulunduğu bölgenin adı Sarısu. Burada kamp yapılabilir veya denize girilebilir. Plajı kum çakıl karışımı.

Our weekend tour ended here. It was a nice trip. We couldn't watch the sunset here because the sun was lost in the clouds. We can try again on a sunny day. That's it for today. Thank you for reading!

Hafta sonu turumuz burada sona erdi.

The part I liked the most was the waterfall, what a magical place! It looked like a fairy tale. And I laughed a lot at the skeleton that was in the vase in the museum 😂 thanks for showing us your tours, I really feel like I traveled to another place when I see this kind of posts. Greetings and hugs from Venezuela.
