[Esp/Eng] Concurso. Observa Piensa Escribe.3010al0611. Las plantitas de mi suegra. | Contest. Observe, Think, Write. 3010 to 0611. My Mother-in-Law's Little Plants.

¡Hola apreciada comunidad TopFiveFamily!

Hello, dear TopFiveFamily community! It always brings me great joy to share with you the “Observe, Think, Write” Contest 3010al0611. The image reminds me of my mother-in-law’s house—she lives in a rural area on Via Caripe el Guacharo, here in Venezuela—and she’s the typical grandma who has an immense love for her little plants; she talks to them, waters them, and scolds them when they’re looking sad—they’re part of the family. She has a gigantic garden—it’s like a mountain where she has lots of fruit trees and large flowering plants, such as roses, hydrangeas, and buttercups, to name a few—but she also has that special little corner by the terrace railing, where there are a number of pots with ornamental plants; there she has begonias, violets, all kinds of succulents, spearmint, peppermint, ferns, and other little plants that decorate the terrace, giving it a homey warmth and filling the space with the joy of their colorful flowers and their shapes—at least among the succulents, she has different varieties, each with its own unique style.
Every time I visit her, I come home loaded down with a bunch of little plants to plant and put in pots, to bring some homey warmth and joy to my windowsill with the sight of the little plants. But here’s the thing: to plant the seedlings, I have to ask my husband to do it for me, because he has a green thumb, whereas I—as they say—have “no green thumb.” I don’t know what that means exactly, but I’ve tried everything. My mom tells me, “Sing while you plant,” and I’ll tell you—not even that has worked… Plants just don’t take to me, but I do take care of them—I keep an eye on the fertilizer, their water, and the compost to nourish the soil—but as for touching the plants themselves, no… We even have a lemon tree at home, and my husband is the one who picks the lemons; I don’t touch the tree—I just pick up the lemons that fall to the ground. I don’t know what it comes down to, but I wasn’t born to plant—I was born to care for things.
