Taking pictures of the city where I live is one of the activities that I like the most because it invariably makes me see it with the kind eyes of a tourist and I feel like I'm out and about, on the other hand it is a way to record the changes that occur and how we feel about them.

Today I was working on a post about the center of my city and indirectly I got the post of @cetb200 (@irvinc gave me the tip) about the call that the community @CCH inviting us to participate in a photo contest whose theme is "Visit the City". Here I leave the link so you can see the rules and I take this opportunity to invite my friends @devania and @jomarbym. Here is my participation.

In recent days I had the opportunity to visit the center of my city in the early hours of the day, 6 am. A propitious time to take pictures without so much movement of people and to capture how little by little the city is waking up and taking its daily movement.

I live in Maracay, a Venezuelan city located in the north-central region of the country. The city is nestled in a valley so its temperature tends to be high 30º-33º degrees on average normal. The morning was cool and with clouds that announced rain. I started my tour at the Cathedral of Maracay.

It is a cathedral, which has its origins in the eighteenth century but, as we know it today, with that facade is from the late nineteenth century and is one of the few cathedrals in Venezuela that is not located in front of a Plaza Bolivar that is in every city and town in our nation.

Its architecture is typical of the time, with a colonial baroque style, full of details with an interior of little light that invites to rest and reflection. Its bell tower was the last part that was attached to the work.

Just in front of the Cathedral in one of the corners of the Plaza Girardot is this replica of the facade, it is an artistic work made in sand by a local artist. Although there are elements that do not correspond to reality, such as these lateral constructions, the work is delicate and a contribution to the local culture.

The Girardot Square is named in honor of one of our independence heroes.

It is a spacious square surrounded by lush trees, on one of its sides that we see in the background, is the Anthropological Museum and the Museum of History. It is a very visited square. It caught my attention to see that the workers in the area and parishioners in general, while waiting for the shops to open, sit down to talk in small groups and have breakfast, with food that they bring from their homes. The squirrels, already habituated and attracted by the smells, come down from the trees to receive their corresponding ration.

On the other side, the square borders the Plaza Bicentenaria, which are separated by Avenida Bolivar, an avenue that crosses a large part of the city.

The Bicentennial Plaza was remodeled a few years ago under a concept of modernization. The truth is that it broke with the community concept of "Garden City of Venezuela", its trees were cut down, its areas were covered with a white slab where the strong Maracayero sun bounces as in a mirror producing a great wave of heat. On its edges they planted trees, still growing and we dream that someday they will return to the place, that degree of freshness and coziness for the passerby.

Two blocks to the left of the square we find the Bolevar Perez Almarza, also remodeled at the same time of the Plaza Bicentenaria and with the same concept. Here the floor is made of a different, more benevolent material, which makes it pleasant to walk along. Being a central, purely commercial area, it usually has a lot of movement.

Already on my way home I take Las Delicias Avenue with its leafy and flowery trees is one of the most beautiful areas of the city.

Tomar fotos de la ciudad en la que vivo es una de las actividades que más me agradan porque invariablemente me hace verla con los ojos amables del turista y siento que estoy de paseo, por otro lado es una manera de ir registrando los cambios que se producen y como nos sentimos con ellos.

Hoy estaba trabajando un post sobre el centro de mi ciudad y de manera indirecta me llegó el post de @cetb200 (@irvinc me dio el dato) sobre la convocatoria que la comunidad @CCH invitándonos a participar en un concurso fotográfico cuyo tema es “Visita a la Ciudad”. Acá te dejo el Link para que veas las reglas y aprovecho para invitar a las amigas @devania y @jomarbym. Aquí mi participación.

En días pasados tuve la oportunidad de visitar el centro de mi ciudad a tempranas horas del día, 6 de la mañana. Una hora propicia para tomar fotografías sin tanto movimiento de personas e ir captando como poco a poco la ciudad se va despertando y agarrando su movimiento cotidiano.

Vivo en Maracay una ciudad venezolana ubicada en la región centro-norte del país. La ciudad se encuentra anclada en un valle por lo que su temperatura tiende a ser alta 30º-33º grados en promedio normal. La mañana era fresca y con nubes que anunciaban lluvia. Comencé mi recorrido por la Catedral de Maracay.

Es una catedral, que tiene sus orígenes en el siglo XVIII pero, que tal como la conocemos hoy, con esa fachada es de finales del siglo XIX y es una de las pocas catedrales de Venezuela que no se encuentra ubicada frente a una Plaza Bolívar que hay en cada ciudad y pueblo de nuestra nación.

Su arquitectura es propia de la época estilo barroco colonial, llena de detalles con un interior de poca luz que invitan al reposo y la reflexión. Su campanario fue la última parte que se anexó a la obra.

Justo frente a la Catedral en una de las esquina de la Plaza Girardot se encuentra esta réplica de la fachada, es un trabajo artístico realizado en arena por un artista local. Aunque hay elementos que no corresponden a la realidad, como son esas construcciones laterales, el trabajo es delicado y un aporte a la cultura local.

La Plaza Girardot debe a su nombre en honor a uno de nuestros próceres de la independencia.

Es una plaza espaciosa rodeada de frondosos árboles, por uno de sus laterales que vemos al fondo, se encuentra el Museo Antropológico y el Museo de Historia. Es una plaza muy visitada. Me llamó la atención ver que los trabajadores de la zona y parroquianos en general, mientras esperan que abran los locales comerciales, se sientan a conversar en pequeños grupos y a desayunar, con comida que traen a sus hogares. Las ardillas, ya habituadas y atraídas por los olores bajan de los árboles para recibir su correspondiente ración.

Por otro de sus laterales la plaza limita con la Plaza Bicentenaria y que se encuentran separadas por la Avenida Bolívar, una avenida que atraviesa gran parte de la ciudad.

La Plaza bicentenaria fue remodelada hace pocos años bajo un concepto de modernización. La verdad es que rompió con el concepto comunitario de “Ciudad Jardín de Venezuela”, sus árboles fueron talados, sus áreas las cubrieron con una losa blanca donde el fuerte sol maracayero rebota como en un espejo produciendo una gran oleada de calor. Por sus bordes plantaron árboles, aun en crecimiento y que soñamos que algún día le devuelvan al lugar, ese grado de frescor y acogimiento para el transeúnte.

Dos cuadras hacia la izquierda de la plaza encontramos el bulevar Pérez Almarza, también remodelado en la misma época de la Plaza Bicentenaria y con el mismo concepto. Acá el piso es de otro material más benevolente lo que hace agradable caminar por el sitio. Siendo una zona céntrica, netamente comercial, normalmente tiene gran movimiento.

Ya vía a mi hogar tomo la Avenida Las Delicias que con sus frondosos y floreados árboles es una de las zonas más bellas de la ciudad
