So many memories on this map 🗺

Canals has to be one of my favorite Gears of War maps in the history of all Gears games. It surprised the hell out of me when Canals came up in the rotation during matchmaking in this gameplay video. I hadn't looked up the list of maps for Gears 5, I've just been playing and playing. I should have known that one of their most popular maps would be in this game.

Canals has been remade/remastered for many Gears games now. It first appeared as a launch map for the original Gears of War game. Then it was added to both Gears 2 and 4. Now it's back in Gears 5, with a bit of a dark (but not night) theme. It's just as great as I remember it being.

The classic race to see who will get to the Longshot first is still just as exhilarating as it always was. As soon as you pick it up, you better be aiming to the other side of the map to take out the enemy player who picks up their longshot. Then of course there is the Torque Bow to fight over down in the water under the middle bridge. There is no hiding out on Canals.

I know this map like the back of my hand, yet I still did poorly in this match. It is taking me a lot longer to reclaim my former Gears glory than I thought it would. Trust me when I say I have a dominant performance coming soon.
