WHAT I LOVE THE MOST ABOUT BEING NIGERIAN

Nigeria my country

I’ll be a big joker if I come here to state just one thing I love about being a citizen of the great nation, Nigeria. This topic is really huge and emotional for me because although it’s really so hard being Nigerian, one way or the other we find ourselves thriving. I’ll just state a few things;

The Cultural diversity

Although, there are 3 main recognized ethnic groups in Nigeria, which are the Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa, simply because they are the largest groups, Nigeria is known to be home to over 250 ethnic group and it’s amazing to see that despite the diversity, there’s is a common understanding amongst Nigerians. Personally, I’m of the yoruba tribe but I always look forward to learning languages from other tribes. Also, have you ever seen when these ethnic groups are having festivals ? My goodness, what a sight!

The delicacies 😋😋

Trust me, if you’re a foodie or not, Nigeria is the place to be when it comes to wonderful and delicious meals, the interesting part is every ethnic group has meals peculiar to them so if you go to one part of Nigeria, you’ll know that they mostly eat a certain type of food and of course there are universal meals that cut across every ethnic group. Also, this does not mean that an Ibo man would not like a yoruba man’s food or vice versa

The Talent

Wow, just wow. I can’t write this post without mentioning that Nigeria is blessed with a lot of talented people. There are so many creatives with wide range of talents, it’s amazing. I recently visited an art gallery and I was entirely blown away with the art I was surrounded with, I was lucky to get some of these pictures by snapping them on my phone (Tunde Odunlade art gallery in Ibadan, Nigeria)

Our Resilience

It’s isn’t new that we Nigerians have been tagged ‘strong’, ‘tough’, ‘hard guys’, well as much as those are really true, we Nigerians go through a lot more than people can imagine. Despite the numerous problems we face such as Poverty, chronic illnesses, bad economy, unemployment amongst many other things, which of course are the reasons why most of the youth try to migrate to seek greener pastures.
Some people say the average Nigerian already has numerous problems, yes these are true but everyday you see Nigerians make jokes out of situations, laugh, smile, try hard to survive, despite trying conditions. It only explains how we are able to cope with some of these problems we face.

These are just few of the numerous things I love about being Nigerian. I hope someday in the future I am able to contribute greatly to this nation and help to solve some of the problems we face.

Thank you for reading
