Hive is a haven for Content Creators

Hello Hivers!

It's Monday but it's also a Holiday so today is an extension of my weekend. I already have planned a few activities however, I have the afternoon to relax and be ready for tomorrow's start of the work week.

Earlier, I was imagining the day when Hive has become mainstream and be able to support content creators in such a way that the Youtubers or the Tiktokers are making a living through those platforms. Whenever I watch vloggers talk about their earnings from YouTube, I have this feeling of envy, I'm annoyed that they get to earn a lot of money even though they simply talk about the mundane things about their lives. They simply eat a bunch of food, to the point that is dangerous to their body, and yet they are earning good earnings out of it.

In my mind, some questions arise and one of them is whether that wit Hive become a platform where content creators will earn enough living to make it a full-time job or a hustle.

Before I elaborate on my thoughts about that question, let me talk about Hive as a content platform in my humble opinion.

In the early stage of Hive, there was a stigma that it was not for everyone. It is because of the initial use case of it being a blogging platform. It is understandable that not every one of us (including me) are not comfortable with writing long-form content. And it's also understandable that not many of us appreciate or have the patience to read long-form content. However, the stigma changed when DApps changed the environment and made it more inclusive to almost every type of creator. Nowadays, there are micro-blogging, streaming(?), games, activity apps, videos, Q&As, and many more that I'm not even aware of now.

From that view, I can already say to anyone who will ask me about Hive that it's for everyone. It's no longer an argument because the app developers and the community have done their part in catering to everyone's needs at this point.

The question that keeps popping in my mind is whether is it profitable.

Considering the current price of Hive, factoring in your time and expenses for you to create your content and the potential of earnings from a post that will only last for a week to get rewarded... maybe not.

The price of Hive depends on what the market is willing to pay for so we can't turn that around so quickly. It will require years to firm up the price but due to the current nature of the crypto market, it will have its ups and downs. Even though, a part of your earnings is paid in HBD, which is a stablecoin that is meant to maintain its value pegged to the USD; it still depends on the current price of Hive.

Ultimately, we need the price of Hive to reach a certain level at which content creation will become a profitable endeavor for anyone at any level.

But why Hive and why not simply go to the current mainstream platforms and try your luck there?

With this question, I will highlight the line in the title of this post which is "Hive is a haven".

In many of the vlogs that I watch, often I hear vloggers say "Youtube could de-monetize me if I do or say something that isn't good", which is eerie to hear even from the users that already have large followings on that platform. It sounds like they are too fearful of what the platform may do to their accounts or channels that they passionately built. It almost sounds like it could be taken away from them at any moment that the platform wasn't happy about what they do or say.

I don't think that it's fair that a central entity could simply take away the freedom of a content creator by de-monetizing or banning their accounts because they disagree about something that the creator did or said in his vlog.

What I think is a fair solution to that is to let the community decide on what content is to be rewarded and which one is not.

In the case of Hive, there isn't content that is labeled as right or wrong, however, there are behaviors that are not accepted. To expand that, every content is welcomed on the platform, it could even be highly opinionated or even political. It could also be as mundane as making handicrafts or a post about your day, all content is allowed to be posted to the platform. However, there are certain behaviors that the community dislikes, one of them is plagiarism.

A legitimate content creator won't have any problem with that.

The future of Hive is not certain however, we can do our part to shape it in such a way that will work for the benefit of the community. Whether or not the platform can provide the earnings that the content creators require, I think the most important aspect of this platform is the freedom that it provides. It's a haven

Fully agreed! It can still be a side hustle though (we'll see how things go during the next bull run).

Are you currently able to convert Hive into fiat (SGD)? 🙂

I have no idea at the moment and it seems that Binance doesn't have this option yet. 😰 gonna have to research Hive to SGD and vice versa, as soon as I find time.

I think the decentralized nature of Hive is both a blessing and a curse. It is a boon to content creators that they can create whatever they want without fear of censorship. The drawback is that there are fewer ways to monetize the content outside of the token rewards. I think #inleo is doing a good job of running focused ad content to bolster the reward pool paid to creators.

the Youtubers or the Tiktokers are making a living through those platforms.

One thing I'll say here is that only the top performers really make a living from making content. Proportionally, I think Hive enables more people to earn some value and is more evenly distributed among all of the contributors.
