😬☠️SMILE (the movie)😬☠️
Yesterday I went to the movies again and among the few films that were playing, I remembered that it is already October and that on the internet the reviews about Smile are all over the place, talking about an amazing movie. For me, a horror fan, this was a direct call to see Smile, especially considering its incredible marketing in various parts of the US.
Ayer fui al cine otra vez y entre las pocas películas que estaban en cartelera, recordé que ya estamos en octubre y que en internet las críticas sobre Smile están por todos lados, hablando de una película increíble. Para mí, que soy fan del terror, esto fue un llamado directo a ver Smile, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta su marketing tan increíble por varias partes de estados unidos.
Smile, now, has two very interesting aspects. It's a horror film that goes for the evil entity, which doesn't bother me, but beyond that it also goes for a showcase of mental illness and the stigma attached to it, which I loved. It's a film that constantly plays with your mind and does so in a very good way, being an entertaining film to say the least since you don't know exactly what's going on at any given moment. In moments and plot decisions it reminded me of a movie from a few years ago called "The Father", which showed us the life of an elderly gentleman with Alzheimer's from his perspective. It's not the same, but Smile plays with the fact of schizophrenia in a way rarely seen in horror films, which gives it a point of grace that not every horror film has.
Smile, ahora, tiene dos vertientes muy interesantes. Es una cinta de terror que apuesta por el ente maligno, lo cual no me molesta, pero más allá de eso también apuesta por una muestra de las enfermedades mentales y el estigma que se tiene de ellas, lo cual me encantó. Es una película que constantemente juega con tu mente y lo hace de una muy buena forma, siendo una película cuanto menos entretenida puesto que no sabes exactamente qué está pasando en cada momento. En momentos y decisiones de trama me recordó a una película de hace unos años llamada “El padre”, que nos mostraba la vida de un señor mayor con alzhéimer desde su perspectiva. No es lo mismo, pero Smile juega con el hecho de la esquizofrenia de una forma poco vista en las películas de terror, lo cual le da un punto de gracia que no cualquier película de terror tiene.
For me, good horror movies are hard to find, but that's because I don't like to be scared, a scare happens after a while, I like to feel uncomfortable and uneasy, anxious. If a horror movie feels like a movie that is hard to watch, for me that movie has already won, now, on the other hand, if a horror movie only seeks to scare with jumpscares and a silly ghost story, it bores me a lot and I end up disliking it.
In its aesthetics and form the film also seems to me to be somewhat well accomplished. Smile is for Parker Finn and although it has many things to improve, it makes decisions that favor the advancement of the plot in terms of direction, with some very nice shots and worthy of photos, however, that for the end of the tape has opted more to make a supernatural horror film and not show a tense atmosphere with mental illness if it is something that I LIKE could ruin the film a little.
Para mí, las buenas películas de terror son difíciles de encontrar, pero es porque no me gusta asustarme, un susto pasa después de un rato, a mí me gusta sentirme incomodo e inquieto, ansioso. Si una película de terror se siente como una película que te cuesta ver, para mí esa película ya gano, ahora, por contraparte, si una película de terror solo busca asustar con jumpscares y una historia de fantasmas tonta, me aburre mucho y termina disgustándome.
En su estética y su forma la película también me parece algo bien logrado. Smile es para Parker Finn y aunque tiene muchas cosas que mejorar, toma decisiones que favorecen al avance de la trama en cuanto a la dirección, con unos planos muy lindos y dignos de fotos, sin embargo, que para el final de la cinta se haya optado más por hacer una película de terror sobrenatural y no mostrar un ambiente tenso con las enfermedades mentales si es algo que A MÍ GUSTO pudo arruinar la película un poco.
Smile is not really a film to be praised from head to toe, but it is a great film that can be a breath of fresh air for the genre and raise awareness about a subject that is not talked about much. Again, as is now common, I want to say that this year is being a great year for the horror genre.
Realmente Smile no es una película para alabar de pies a cabeza, pero si es una gran película que puede ser un respiro para el género y una concientización acerca de un tema del que no se habla mucho. Otra vez, como ya es común, quiero decir que este año está siendo un gran año para el género del terror.
