Chelita, es mi suegra y además de eso es una mujer que hasta ahora se ha ganado mi respeto y cariño por ser como ha sido. Más que ser mi suegra es un ser humano extraordinario a la que la vida le ha puesto la difÃcil tarea de haber perdido muchÃsimo (su hijo mayor) pero aun asÃ, después de su proceso, se reconstruyo y volvió a sonreÃr. Querer a un ser humano asà como ella, no es algo difÃcil. Y es que ella ha estado hasta en nuestros peores momentos dándonos apoyo y ese impulso que todos necesitamos para reconstruirnos y salir adelante.
Chelita is my mother-in-law, and she is a woman who has truly earned my respect and affection through the way she has conducted herself. More than just my mother-in-law, she is an extraordinary human being whom life dealt the cruel blow of a devastating loss—her eldest son—yet she managed to rebuild her life and smile again. It is easy to love someone like her; she has stood by us even during our darkest moments, offering the support and encouragement we all need to pick ourselves up and move forward.
No les voy a mentir, chelita, es la única persona que quiero de la familia de mi esposo y a la abuela Dunia, porque desde que llegue a la familia, siempre me han tomado en cuenta con respeto, cariño y siempre se han preocupado por saber de mi, hasta cuando tengo una mÃnima gripe. Y eso lo valoro. Porque a pesar de no ser perfectos como familia, siempre se han mostrado positivamente conmigo.
I won't lie to you, Chelita: she—along with Grandma Dunia—is the only person in my husband's family I truly care for. Ever since I joined the family, they have always treated me with respect and affection, and they always make an effort to check on me—even when I just have a mild cold. I really value that. Because, even though they aren't a perfect family, they have always treated me positively.
Y considerando todo esto, mi manera de expresar también mi cariño es demostrarlo con acciones, asà que le dije a mi esposo para sorprender a mi suegra con una torta en su cumpleaños, y la mejor parte es que ella no sabÃa nada, simplemente la llamamos a que viniera a casa de mi papá para conversar sobre unas medidas de algo que tenÃamos "qué hacer". Ella vino con mi suegro y sobrinos (los consentidos de la casa). Ella no se esperaba la sorpresa y todo salió bien jajaja... Amo sorprender a las personas en sus cumpleaños, siento que eso alegra muchÃsimo más, porque cuando no esperas nada todo conspira a tu favor.
With all that in mind, the way I like to show my affection is through actions; so, I suggested to my husband that we surprise my mother-in-law with a cake for her birthday. The best part was that she had no idea—we simply asked her to come over to my dad's house to discuss measurements for something we supposedly "needed to do." She arrived with my father-in-law and my nephews (the family favorites). She wasn't expecting the surprise at all, and everything went perfectly, haha... I love surprising people on their birthdays; I feel it brings so much more joy, because when you aren't expecting anything, everything seems to conspire in your favor.
Lo más importante de todo esto es que la pasamos genial, riendo y compartiendo anécdotas de vida, y es que cuando este tipo de reuniones familiares se dan las risas sobran y los recuerdos se juntan. La pasamos super bien, y agradeciendo a Dios por todo lo que nos permite disfrutar en vida.
The most important thing is that we had a wonderful time laughing and sharing life stories; when family gatherings like this happen, laughter abounds and memories come together. We had a fantastic time, grateful to God for everything He allows us to enjoy in life.
