I Can't Take Any Chances With These People (Frostpunk)

I gotta hand it to games that are designed to make the players feel depressed and beaten up by so many conditions set by the game. Frostpunk is the kind of game that teaches you to make use of everything you possible can, while ah, not pissing off A.I. based population. It's freezing cold outside, so of course the tolerance towards compromises would subside and the rage would take over.

My first try did not go well, I ran out of coal, woods, and was low on other things. Because of being such a bad state, I decided to replay this campaign again while utilizing whatever I've via the first run.

Frostpunk to be clear, is a pretty brutal game. You have to be prepared to deal with the worst setback while compensating back real hard. It's strenuous yet its a welcoming challenge of a game that plays well, and all in general pretty fun....if you can get used to the depressive setting.

I am going to spoil it for you here, my second run didn't go that well either. Tried as I have, the RNG aspects just weren't in my favor at all. But I have surpassed the mileage from my first one, and I've learned a couple of more things to boot. One of the most important bits is not to, well, not feed the townspeople bad news all the time.

Now one of the key important things from this game was to keep resources in abundance, otherwise, I would be leaving people to be distressed and that would aggravate them, creating discontent. Another thing was having food, shelter, and medical centers, otherwise, people would be dying real quick. The Steam generator providing heat needs coal, so my focus was geared towards that.

Now that the people are appeased, I call to move forward with my research and build beacons to have explorers go out and find something around the land of frozen tundras. Though I had to fix the food issue, as people were slowly dying one by one. My population was going down, I would lose workers and that's bad news for everyone.

The research for the beacon was done and I've sent my first scouting party out to get supplies, before later coming across a bridge to spot an automaton that could do work 24hrs, but only if you feed it coal. It wasn't the most efficient mechanization, so in time that could change.

It wasn't easy getting to this point, I had to force my workers to grind for 24hrs in the cold. That obviously pushed the discontent rate really high and was taking my sweet time with the necessities to build up. But I've reached the area of no contention.

The deposits for woods, coals, and steel were depleting, resources were being dried out, but I managed to do the research for mining facilities, and things were back in business. Deposits are basically floors of this stuff, while mining means I need to have these constructed where the resources are buried.

I made the mistake of not realizing the coal thumper only brought out deposits, not extracted them, so after 2 days spent without extracting, my coal reserves depleted, and the heating generator was turned off. This was the point where my mistake started to create dire strains.

So took me a while to figure this out and fix it, but the worst news was to come. My next objective was to look for another settlement, so recovering resources while monitoring my scouts who've gone several miles away from my city, looking for cargo and that new settlement. But then, this happened. A man came all the way from a nearby settlement, exhausted, and came with a great omen.

Yeah, after knowing that Winterhome was utterly destroyed from the inside out, after a fallout, people started to lose hope and have amassed a walk out back to London. Either that or kicking me out. So I have no choice but to establish order, well I wasn't confident with faith-based, so I had to do whatever I believed would work.

As time went on and more bad news kept coming, and my incompetence with resources, things have gotten so bad, I was losing my composure for a bit. Also, since I found caravans, new people came in so I had to build homes for them and warm them up. While also increasing the food supply.

So much work, but then when I sent my scouts finally to Winterhome, what they saw was completely decrepit and abandoned. It was like something out of a nightmare, people were finally pushed to the brink, and I had little time left.

And then, I just kind of gave up. I fast-forwarded time, waiting for the scouts to return and then finish research to unlock the 2nd party. Before I finally got what I wanted, all my plans would be coming to fruition, I was too late. And then I was banished.

Yeah, I played this only for 4hrs, and now my mental state has deteriorated a little bit. It was depressing enough being authoritarian, but oh man did this game push my buttons.
