In my previous post I mentioned that I am happy 🥳 because finally after four months without service, the water is here!

Lo primero que hicimos fue recoger en los envases que nosotros llamamos tambores o pipotes. Como pueden ver algunos son fabricados para tal fin y otros no. Los blancos son reciclados 🤭 en ellos viene la pintura que usamos para pintar las casas. Por supuesto que el material es de excelente calidad y duran muchísimo.

The first thing we did was to collect in containers that we call drums or pipes. As you can see some are manufactured for that purpose and others are not. The white ones are recycled 🤭 in them comes the paint that we use to paint the houses. Of course the material is of excellent quality and they last a long time.

Para hacer esta historia breve déjenme contarles que gracias a la unión y colaboración de la gran parte de la comunidad se logró reactivar el servicio de manera eficiente. Uno de mis vecinos fue el líder de la misión. En vista de que los organismos gubernamentales no hacía acto de presencia optamos por resolver nosotros nuestra carencia de agua.

To make this story short, let me tell you that thanks to the union and collaboration of a large part of the community, we were able to reactivate the service in an efficient manner. One of my neighbors was the leader of the mission. Since the governmental agencies did not show up, we decided to solve our water shortage ourselves.

Lo primero fue reunirnos a todos y solicitar la aprobación y el consentimiento para empezar con el papeleo necesario. Aquí nos manejamos con Consejos Comunales y son ellos quienes tienen la responsabilidad y autoridad para resolver todo lo relacionado con los servicios. Pero esta vez fue toda la comunidad organizada quien se abocó y por ello el líder se encargó de resolver y organizar toda la parte legal. Hecho esto se realizó una nueva reunión para presentar los detalles y el presupuesto requerido.

The first thing was to get everyone together and request approval and consent to start with the necessary paperwork. Here we work with Community Councils and they are the ones who have the responsibility and authority to resolve everything related to services. But this time it was the entire organized community that was involved and the leader was in charge of resolving and organizing all the legal aspects. Once this was done, a new meeting was held to present the details and the required budget.

No es fácil convencer a la población de autogestionarse. Muchos prefieren esperar que el ESTADO resuelva. Gracias a Dios, nuestro líder supo persuadir y logró que la mayoría aprobara la cuota. Pasados los días mientras se recogía el dinero, continuaban las reuniones. Él nos mantenía informados por el grupo de WhatsApp creado para este fin.

¡Se logró recaudar el monto inicial para darle inicio a las labores de reconexión! ¡Muy bien! Se compró la bomba de agua sumergible y el aparataje necesario para instalarlo. Sin embargo tuvimos que esperar, ya que nadie de la comunidad, ni siquiera los miembros del Consejo Comunal están autorizados para entrar al lugar donde se ubica el pozo y menos para maniobrar sin la presencia de la empresa encargada del agua.

It is not easy to convince the population to self-manage. Many prefer to wait for the STATE to solve. Thank God, our leader knew how to persuade and got the majority to approve the quota. As the days went by while the money was being collected, the meetings continued. He kept us informed through the WhatsApp group created for this purpose.

We were able to raise the initial amount to start the reconnection work! Very good! We bought the submersible water pump and the necessary equipment to install it. However, we had to wait, since no one from the community, not even the members of the Community Council are authorized to enter the place where the well is located and even less to maneuver without the presence of the company in charge of the water.

Se llegó el día tanto anhelado. Los entes responsables de poner la bomba nueva llegaron. Realizaron todos los trabajos necesarios y vimos salir nuevamente el agua por los tubos conectados al pozo.

The long-awaited day has arrived. The entities responsible for putting in the new pump arrived. They carried out all the necessary work and we saw the water flowing again through the pipes connected to the well.

¡Qué felicidad! Es la primera vez desde que fue creada esta urbanización que habíamos pasado tantos meses sin agua y verla de nuevo por las tuberías produjo una gran alegría. Claro, hace más de 8 años que en la mayoría de las casas no llegaba el agua sin bomba instalada (doméstica). Ahora con la compra e instalación de estas bombas (compramos dos y estamos en la espera de conectar la segunda) no hará falta la bomba para que suba por las tuberías y lo mejor es que llega a toda hora.

What happiness! It is the first time since this urbanization was created that we had spent so many months without water and to see it again in the pipes was a great joy. Of course, it has been more than 8 years since most of the houses had water without an installed (domestic) pump. Now with the purchase and installation of these pumps (we bought two and we are waiting to connect the second one) the pump will not be needed to go up through the pipes and the best thing is that it arrives at all times.

El chorro no es muy fuerte porque mi casa está ubicada justo donde finaliza la tubería de la comunidad, pero es mejor eso que nada. ¡Yo feliz!
Ahora hemos estado reparando filtraciones y haciendo limpieza general en el hogar. Desde lavar toda la ropa que hay en las cestas hasta el último cubierto que usamos. Ustedes saben aprovechando la emoción de los primeros días. ☺️

The jetting is not very strong because my house is located right where the community piping ends, but it's better than nothing. I'm happy!
Now we have been repairing leaks and doing general cleaning in the home. From washing all the clothes in the baskets to the last piece of silverware we use. You know taking advantage of the excitement of the early days. ☺️

Agradezco a todos los vecinos que hicieron públicas las fotografías para que pudiéramos observar todo los procesos. Espero que si en sus comunidades sucede algo similar puedan resolver entre todos. No siempre el ESTADO está disponible en los momentos cuando lo requerimos. La autogestión es una de las opciones que como ciudadanos podemos adoptar para resolver las necesidades colectivas. Pensar en el bien común es indispensable para una sana convivencia. Otra razón que apresuró la organización y compra de las bombas fue el gasto que estábamos teniendo por familia al comprar el agua. Aquí en mi ciudad llenar un tanque de 1000 litros tiene un costo de entre 7$ y 10$. El agua de botellón de 18 litros cuesta 2$ (solo el agua) por lo que es un gran alivio para el bolsillo tener el agua nuevamente.

En los próximos días tendremos instalada la segunda bomba y se hará una reunión para acordar las cuotas mensuales a pagar para su mantenimiento.

Los dejo porque me voy a dar un refrescante duchazo.

The STATE is not always available when we need it. Self-management is one of the options that as citizens we can adopt to solve collective needs. Thinking about the common good is indispensable for a healthy coexistence. Another reason that hastened the organization and purchase of the pumps was the expense we were having per family when buying water. Here in my city, filling a 1000 liter tank costs between $7 and $10. The 18 liter bottle water costs 2$ (only the water) so it is a great relief for the pocket to have the water again.

In the next few days we will have the second pump installed and a meeting will be held to agree on the monthly fees to be paid for its maintenance.
