Biggie is a Big Deal

avatar

This morning he woke me up half an hour before sunrise to play kibble catch. He often does this in the morning. It's a ritual.
It starts with Biggie yelling outside my window for me to wake up. I open the blinds, he hops from his yelling perch onto the fence outside the window next to my bed. I open the window and attempt to throw kibbles to him while my body and brain try to figure out if I'm still dreaming. My aim sucks at first. I miss a lot. Biggie yells at me. Yells at the cat. The yelling and the cool morning air wake me up a little more and my aim gets better.

Sometimes I get to go back to sleep afterwards, depending on the time. Usually he comes by at least an hour AFTER sunrise, Biggie, so I can't get some decent sleep before work.

It's not like he's starving. It's not like there aren't several bowls full of the exact same if not better kibbles all over my windowsills that he takes full advantage of when I'm not home.

It's not like he doesn't know how to forage for fresher and tastier things than dried up dog kibble, either.

It has nothing to do with food, really.
It has everything to do with me being the luckiest fucking human being on the planet.
Even half an hour before sunrise.

This is my entry for the #monomad challenge, held daily in the Black and White Community.
Give it a try. But first watch this video starting at 7:00 so you can see Biggie pushing his empty food bowl around the roof of my car like the bulldozing elephant he is.

Wow! Gorgeous photo!
Also, your story is amazing! The relationship you have with Biggie is really something special and I am a little envious of that. Not really envious of the super early waking up part, but definitely well worth it!
Best of luck for the contest!

Thank you! Biggie is a super special guy, and I feel lucky to know him.
He let me sleep in until 7:15 this morning.

Yay! He let you sleep in a little! Crows are really awesome and Biggie does sound like a special friend to have! And he clearly does think of you as a friend 😉

Wow, that's really cool. It is very difficult for me to photograph birds, because they will fly

Thank you! Yeah, having crow friends makes it easier to photograph them. Other birds can be pretty challenging for me, too.

Lovely captures. Biggie knows a good thing. I have a raven that comes by to see what I put outside but he keeps a distance.

Oh but stilllllllll, a raven! Before I understood corvids I used to think that ravens were these almighty mysterious dark creatures. Now that I know them, I realize they are goofy, playful, shy, clever little croakers. Much better than the hollywood stereotype.
I bet your raven will come around eventually and spend more time with you if you just keep feeding him.
