“This is your life.

Do what you love, and do it often.”

~ Holstee Manifesto

I'm a sucker for a good quote. I think I always have been. So imagine my delight when I realised a year or two ago that I could install the Momentum Extension to my Google Chrome and have an automatically generated new picture and quote every single day.

I was as excited as a little girl who just been given all her presents at once 👇

Of course, over time I realised that I don't like all the photos they (whoever "they" at Momentum are) choose to put on my screen, and I definitely don't approve or agree with all the quotes they choose either.

I don't get to tell "them" if I like the photo but I just worked out I can "skip" a quote if I don't like it. Hallelujah for that! I love this because some of the quotes are fabulous and some of them are just totally... hmmm... ridiculous, stupid or simply unhelpful.

But I digress, I loved today's one when I saw it, so I thought I'd share it with you. (You caught it at the top of the post, right? In case you missed it, I'll share it with you again).

Let's break down why I rate this quote and why I think it's helpful enough to write a whole post about it.

Part 1: This is your life.

I think we can so often forget, with the influence of parents, teachers, preachers, the media, our friends and co-workers, celebrities, and anyone else in an authoritative position in our lives that our life is our life. Since we were born we've had people tell us what to do and how to live.

But if you're old enough to read this, you're probably old enough to many most if not all of your own decisions. Yes we often need to make our decisions together with our nearest and dearest humans. Yes, we may need to make our decisions in accordance with our societal or cultures beliefs, values and local laws. But we almost always have more wiggle room to do what's right for us than we realise.

So remember, this is your life. Is it time to consider doing some small or large part of it differently?

Part 2: Do what you love...

Do you know what you love? After all the shoulds, the musts and the have-tos have been laid aside for just a minute what is left in that space if you know you're allowed to do almost anything? Take note as you do this: There will be things you're "good at" but that don't actually bring you joy - pop them aside as well and really look.

What do you love? What brings you joy? If you're not doing it, can you? Can you bring it into your life now? Can you turn up the dial

...and do it often as the last part of this quote states?

If you can incorporate the one or more things you love into your life just a little more often the quality of your entire life is likely to improve.

Because when we do more of what we love that spills over into the many other parts of our life.

So since this is your life, why not do what you love and do it as often as you possibly can?

Ah! Thanks, Dear One 😁

Yes, it is fun to get new pics and words each day. It's supposed to be a productivity tool but... I never use it that way 🤣

Too often, I focus on tomorrow and fail to enjoy today. I forgo what is given for what may not exist. Thanks for the inspiration and the breakdown of doing what I enjoy today and in this life and time.
