Friday Freewrite: Road Trip Edition

It's Friday and that means it's time for another #fridayfreewrite. I'd mentioned last week that I was going on an adventure and wouldn't be doing one this week but I'm presently riding shotgun and have a bit more time to write than I'd expected.

We're making a quick run to DC for the weekend, will probably end up spending almost as much time in the car as we do in the nation's capital. Google says it's a 9 hour drive but we all know how that goes.

It's a straight shot east on I-64 for the most part, we get to see horse country before driving through the Appalachian Mountains.

At least 169 more miles of this before the GPS starts telling us what to do again.

The March For Voting Rights is tomorrow, I'm curious to see how law enforcement handles it, especially in light of the treatment the 'Blue Lives Matter' crowd gave them on January 6th.

The last time I made this run was in 2016, driving through West Virginia then was depressing as hell, even to someone born just across the state line from there. We'll see if things have improved any in an hour or two.

The cats seemed a bit put out that they didn't get to go adventuring with us but Evander doesn't people well enough to go marching. They get to have a friend come visit them while we're gone to make up for it though. Do you travel with your pets or do they keep an eye on things while you're away?

Time for me to get ready to drive, I'll try and post more once we're in DC.

Anybody else going to be in DC or out adventuring this weekend?

No way, when'd you get a self driving car?

I've only been in DC once, wasn't a rally or anything. That place was so weird, even the children wore suits. Everyone had on a suit and a phone on their head and then there was me.

The cat looks like it's wearing a scarf.

I just let Jesus take the wheel...

DC is weird. I've been there multiple times, and it's always different each time I go back.

When were you in DC? I know all about the children in suits, I greatly resented being forced to wear one. One of my visits there was in high school for a conference and we were required to wear business attire.

The timing of my visits to DC tend to wind up being a bit interesting. I was there when Clinton got impeached, toured the Pentagon less than two months before the plane hit it, had my children in suits episode a couple days after we invaded Iraq the second time. I'm curious to see what'll come out of this visit.

Yeah maybe you shoulda stayed home. "Reporters."

It's been quite awhile now, last time I was in DC would've been about 2014. Even the plane ride is a trip cuz they fly into Dulles, planes are smaller. So the number of passengers is smaller too but they're all wearing suits.

Ha, yep. Only time I flew into Dulles we were on a puddle jumper not much bigger than a paper airplane.
