Tide pool Fun

One thing that we love to do as often as we can is get out there and get to the beach so we can enjoy some fun in the sun and the waves. We went to a few good spots when we were on vacation but we haven't been to the local beaches around us much so we knew that we were going to look forward to it when we got a decent bout of weather. Sure enough, we got that recently!

The little man is an avid little hunter that's for sure. He's always popping around the rocks, searching for the next little treasure. We found our first one last year around this time but this year we found it again! I know this isn't exactly an eel but it certainly looks like it! We were able to learn the correct name and I'll have to find it but this critter here is quite the interesting thing to find. It's slippery like an eel and fast as hell! Most times we don't get them but this time we cornered the fella and captured it. Thankfully when we were done with it, we put it back and it was a little tired but it swam away and hid under a rock to recover lol

Being late spring, it's time for getting laid! LOL It's mating season for all kinds of animals and crabs are no exception. I handled her as gently as I could but I found a few crabs that were quite pregnant with thousands of little eggs attached to them! I got this one up for a picture to show it off and we put her back under a rock where she can hide and keep the crab ecosystem flowing!

We had quite the haul for crabbing this time. The guy that's looking up at us was one tough fella to catch! He's obviously been in some brawls with his homies, missing a claw and all.

I took the little bucket here and snagged a few of my own crabs, though I made sure to give the best ones to the little man so he could enjoy them.

This crab here is one that he caught all on his own! It's great but pretty sad watching him grow up and be able to do these things on his own lol. Last year I had to catch all the crabs, particularly the big ones. This year though, he's caught bigger crabs than I have! It's really fun and good to see him do that, although it's also quite sad lol little dude is growing up! 😕

This one was ready to fight that's for sure lol when we let him go back into the water afterwards, he immediately propped up on his back legs and stuck his claws out at us as if to say "wanna piece of me bitch?!?!" it was pretty funny. Once we stood up he crawled away but the little man was teasing him and dropped back down and the crab instantly went into fight mode again. It was a pretty funny way to end the crabbing session.

One thing we hope we can find are good crab hunting grounds when we move this year! We have an affinity for having fun in the crab areas, flipping rocks over and searching for them. I know we are going to try some other areas a little further up for some crab fun, so hopefully we can catch ones that are even bigger!

These are in the Maine beaches, roughly an hour north of many places on the eastern half of Massachusetts! Loads of fun, can recommend dozens of places for you if you end up settling in Mass for a while :D

The crabs are a lot of fun and we've found a lot of creatures for sure! Some were pretty rare like the eel (formally called a Rock Gunnel ) so it's a lot of fun. one thing we are really looking forward to finding at least once is a starfish! I used to see them all the time as a kid but I haven't found them in many years sadly. Hopefully they come back!

That’s not to far than if we would end up in the eastern part. End of June we should know more. But a move like that is worth the wait 😁
Have you visited the western parts of Mass? I mean not the middle, but more like the Berkshires. It so looks beautiful. With all the nature, trails, streams etc.

It’s great when you find so much on a day out @cmplxty 😎 and even the rare ones. Yes, starfish… I also remember finding them on the beaches in The Netherlands when I was a kid. But now you mention, I haven’t seen any now I’m an adult… in any country I have lived, on a beach. Looks like they are disappearing.
Maybe in the warmer waters like the Caribbean. Hope you do find one 🤞🏻at least once!
Have a wonderful Friday 👋🏻☀️

Thanks! Yeah the crabbing is a lot of fun for sure. Our son is a veteran crab hunter lol he teaches all the little kids the proper form and technique! It's too funny to watch. This year he's gotten a lot braver and picking up the big fellas that he wouldn't before so that's cool! Very sad to see him grow up but cool nonetheless lol

Watching them grow up always gives us a bit of nostalgia. Besides the fact that they grow up very quickly, and without us realizing it, in no time at all, they are no longer children. My son just turned 18.
Well, I hope you continue to have fun together with your son in the crabs hunting for a long time to come.
Happy weekend!

One of our favorite places of all is being next to the ocean! We wish we bought some property near it years ago but that’s how life goes lol hindsight is 20/20!

Hello @cmplxty

A Rock Gunnel? I did not know that name at all, I'll go look up that little slippery creature for sure, it looks very cool.

Crabbing. This is a cool hobby! I like crabs, they are full of spunk. I find them quite comical to watch and I mean walking sideways can't be the easiest way to live.

I know what you mean about the little man growing up! It's a proud and sad moment, kinda bittersweet when you see contrast like that which shows how much they've grown up in a short time. Enjoy these moments with him.

Great photos and it was good to see the lady crab in berry. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend!

Yeah we didn’t know what a rock gunnel was at all until we visited the local ocean info center! Glad they told us what it was, it’s always cool to have local knowledge like that.

The crabs are a lot of fun that’s for sure. They do have a lot of spunk and especially if you get ahold of one that’s feisty! They will pinch you pretty hard hahaha. It’s certainly bittersweet to see the little man growing up and doing these things with more ability as he gets older. I know we can’t complain about his hobbies that’s for sure! Crabbing, building things and most recently soccer. We have an amazing little dude! One of my wife’s friends kid asked for a PlayStation when he was 4 and is always playing it. Ours won’t know what that is for many years!

Finding the pregnant ones is great! We have seen lots of babies around, the rock gunnel babies are wild! We haven’t seen some yet this year but I’ll show you what they look like when we find it. It’s pretty cool looking lol

That is one funny story with the crabs and I can't help but wonder, how does the crab feel missing a claw? Does it even know that it's missing a claw?

Interesting photos!

This is the first time I see a "pregnant" crab :-)
I saw only cancer with caviar.
