Opportunity Cost Tradeoffs

Hi fellow Lions,

Today I wanted to chat a little bit about trading things and the opportunity cost it presents.

Opportunity Cost Tradeoffs

One of the first things I wanted to do is define what I mean here. Opportunity cost: this means that you have one thing you need to choose but when you choose it, you give up something else, meaning you can't have both.

What is the opportunity cost I'm talking about here? Time on Hive and time off Hive. For me, there is a lot of time during the day that I simply cannot be on Hive for one reason or another but usually at night I get to spend an hour or two on it so that I can write some posts, engage in comments on peoples posts and be an overall active member of the community. What is the opportunity cost that is associated with that though? I give up on sleep!

Granted I know that I've been a lot better lately focusing on sleep more than I have in the past but I could certainly use some more sleep some of these days, where I'm getting 7 hours or less of sleep because I wake up and do things on Hive, going to bed only 7 hours or so earlier. I know that seems like a good amount of sleep to most people, and most people can't get that in a night but for me I've always operated on the need to get 8+ hours of sleep a night to really operate efficiently and top notch.

If I don't spend time on Hive though, that means that I'm dropping some engagement off the table, have a post or two less that gets written and if something really goes awry, I lost out entirely on a night of a post. Those things are certainly not the end of the world but when we are trying to build a brand here in the emerging Web 3.0 space that is Hive and the others like it, that can be some crucial losses to sustain!

I know that I'm thankfully in a position in which I don't have to use any of my Hive funds in the physical world, so that means I'm able to stack more as much as I can which is an incredible feeling but I know there will come a day where I may need to extract some of the assets here. That will be an additional opportunity cost in itself, where one trades the additional accumulation of Hive assets to needing to spend the money on something. I know everyone does it every day, for good reason, in other parts of the world and I'm happy to support many people in that respect.

What I'm trying to do is build my account and brand as much as I can so that I can do my best to support all of these kinds of people around the world and the best way to do that is to increase the stake I'm accumulating. I'm not narrow minded in thinking that I'm doing this for purely egalitarian purposes, because at the end of the day I am getting something out of the deal but I don't plan on realizing those benefits for quite some time so I might as well distribute outward as much as I can, in hopes that the returns of those are far greater than the time and effort spent to do that in the short term.

Thinking of it this way, I know that I'm making a tradeoff that can feel and seem challenging such as when I'm exhausted but I haven't written a post in 2 nights because I was tired the night before, I have to force myself to get up and put in the effort to get something done. It sometimes is like the days that we work where we don't feel like we can work but we know that we need to do the work anyways because the long term benefits of that are likely greater than the short term ones, so you put one foot in front of the other and grease off the wheels of motion and before you know it, you're finishing up a post, some engagement and feeling better about sacrificing a little bit of extra sleep for time on the chain, knowing that it is likely better spent in the long run having done that.

I've felt like that a few days recently where we didn't sleep great the past week because my son had quite the cough, but is thankfully feeling better. The sleep debt that we have though is pretty substantial and we need to repay that however I also need to make sure that I'm keeping up my opportunity costs on the chain here and getting my daily activities done so that the growth can continue. The opportunity cost tradeoffs are challenging but something we all deal with on a daily basis. I wouldn't have it any different though, that's for sure!

To be honest, 8 hours sleep is decent. I think that your body is already conditioned to having that hours of rest to function well. Sometimes all I do is get 5 to 6 hours at best every 24 hours.
As per time on hive, there's always something we're going to sacrifice. Especially because there are real life commitments that needs attending to. At the end of the day, we're all doing it for some futuristic dividends we hope to achieve

Yeah I can't handle 6 hours in a 24 hour period lol I would be a zombie! That's what we deal with though sometimes dude! I've been there, hopefully you'll be able to get more sleep in the future!

It is indeed about doing what we can for the future whenever possible!

Hehe not everyone can actually handle the 6 hours. There are times I do 4 hours in a day and I think I'm mostly accustomed to even 4 hours of sleep. It's how we're built. Yeah, I hope I can be able to sleep more in the future. Hahaha, I have my ways of resting too.

Well, I feel that most people here have offline jobs and that is why so many of us cannot fully have time on here so creating time for this lovely platform is what we should have on our minds and we should be dedicated to it

Even if it was a "bull" market and I was a whale I think I would keep an offline job and have Hive as my little hobby lol. It's better that way!

I have seen many people who are working on this platform but they don't withdraw money and earn money by working hard in other places. We all Pakistani people want to do the same but at present the situation in Pakistan is so much. It has become bad that if a person's income is 15 thousand per month, then his bill is double 30 thousand rupees, so we are forced to withdraw money from here. If you want to be successful on this platform, you have to interact with other people, then only you can get success here.

That's for sure. I'm happy to help you in the small ways that I can! It’s a revolutionary thing to be able to do this type of internet stuff! One day you will be able to save some funds!
