Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some pictures from a recent excursion the little man and I took to a lake!

Monochrome Monday Lake

We're always on the hunt for doing some fishing, that's for sure! With this recent excursion, we went to a lake that's pretty popular but one that we never went to before. My family has been fishing this place for a long time which is cool! I remember hearing my great uncle, who was a great fisherman, talk about the place often because he enjoyed going there as much as he did.

When the little man and I were in the area for something, I knew that we had to stop in for some exploration! I made sure that we did a little touristy stuff before we got down to business and started to look for a fishing spot though, because it's important to appreciate the beauty of a place before you get down to business!

The lake is actually a reservoir and being a reservoir, one of the important things that they restrict is no boats! They thankfully let us fish in the place but we can't do anything on the water like use waders, or I don't even think ice fishing is allowed either. They're pretty strict with this one! It's both good and bad, because holy shit I can imagine how many giant fish are in the place LOL and if you can't get out there on a boat to do some trolling or fishing the various spots that you can't get to by foot, there are gigantic fish hiding all over the place!

The place was definitely beautiful though, so that was great. It's nice to get to appreciate the expansive beauty of a lake like this without having it dotted left and right by obnoxious boaters and jet skiis darting around the place. Most of the places around us that allow boats, that's all you see and hear when you're trying to enjoy a little bit of fishing lol.

The reservoir had this gigantic dam at the end of it as well! There is no fishing allowed in this area, so we just did the tourist stuff. I'll be turning a Pinmapple post out in a few days if I can get the time to sit down and focus on it. Looking forward to exploring the different things that I took some pictures of when we were there!

I loved seeing the dam and the surrounding area though, it was beautiful! It's amazing because there's a lot of history in the area for sure. Seeing the long bridge going across is cool but the best part of this spot right here is all you can hear is the low rumble of the waterfalls that they have underneath the concrete! There's millions of gallons of water moving across this thing and it's remarkable seeing it but also listening to it!

Yeah, the combination of no fishing in a specific section, and no boats, means that there are some GIANT fucking fish in this lake LOL

It was unbelievably beautiful as well! I need to sit down and write the post where I include the pictures of the damn. Shit was that awesome to see!

Sounds promising, but I bet you will dream about fishing below the damn. Those spots are favorites of mine to fish. I definitely hear you on the speed boats and jet skis, that's a bonus for you that it's not allowed. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to chuck a 2 ounce weight at them, hehe. Look forward to your future article. Lines tight man!!

I keep meaning to stop by your page, my son caught this incredible smallie the other day! I usually catch the bass and he reels them in but he caught this freaking pig on his own! I was so excited for him, damn you should have seen the smile from ear to ear on the kid! Thing was about 2 pounds, absolutely one of the biggest smallies I've seen in my life! I usually get the 1 pounders, but this thing was a hog!

Yeah dude, I get so mad at the jet skis. One of the lakes we fish at very often, the jet skis are such assholes! They go all over the place and don't give a shit if there is anyone fishing there, they fly on by and often do it on purpose the pricks.

There's a nice river outlet that I want to try at this spot, we weren't planning on fishing in this particular area but I want to try that spot in the fall to see if we can snap up a couple trout! We talked to a guy when we were there and he said that he caught a 2 pound trout there a few weeks before we saw him. I'm absolutely going to check this place out again come October!

That's a good hit for the little one to catch!! That could be the catch that turns him into fisherman. It's really fun seeing them excited when they do it by themselves.

I need to get on the river this year. I have really only fished for panfish this year. I don't know what it is but so far I have hardly got out. Just a merely four times, just busy I guess. Trout are fun to catch. I have to travel a bit to target them unless I go to limited stocking events the DNR puts on at a couple of little ponds in town.

That sounds like an amazing fishing trip! I'm so glad you had the chance to explore a new place and enjoy the beauty of nature. I can definitely see why you would want to go back and fish there again.

I'm also impressed that you were able to find a place to fish that doesn't allow boats. That must have been a challenge, but it sounds like it was worth it. I'm sure the fishing was great without all the noise and commotion from the boats.

The dam sounds really impressive as well. I love the idea of being able to hear the waterfalls underneath the concrete. It must be a really unique experience.

Yeah most of the places that are near us allow boats but with the reservoirs where we live, they are VERY strict which is good. They don't allow any BS in the reservoirs! The water is some of the cleanest in the country which is great. It makes for sad fishing though, where we can't even go in with a kayak! But the benefit is the water is very clear and has very little weeds which is nice.

I was having a lot of fun near the dam that's for sure! The low rumble of the thunder of it was quite a remarkable sound, we really enjoyed that!

Gorgeous pictures. I want to have more opportunities to photograph water, the plays of light with it are wonderful!

Yeah, I love getting some water shots! Those are my favorite for sure. I think most of the pictures that I've taken have some type of water in them haha. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks! It was a good trip, fishing is a lot of fun even if you don't catch anything. It's good to be out there with my son, enjoying nature and just relaxing.
