Monochrome Monday Bluegill

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some photos of the fishing we did recently!

Monochrome Monday Bluegill

The little man and I have been able to get out to do some fishing with the warming up of the weather and the fact that it's the middle of spring. This gives us plenty of opportunity to get out there and enjoy some sunshine and get to throwing a few casts out!

We've been in the habit of exploring some new spots this year, because going to the same old places gets a little boring sometimes! There are some advantages to going to the same fishing spots for sure but one of the benefits of switching it up is that you get to do some exploring! We went to a new spot last year for a little while while we were waiting to do something and it was pretty fun. We made it a point to go back but the year got away from us so I decided that it would be a good idea to take him now that it was warming up!

We happened to catch the spawning season for the fish. This is the time of year that the various fish species are spending a lot of time mating and producing thousands of little babies! This is a pretty good time to go fishing, although selfishly. The fish are pretty aggressive at not watching anything to be in their spawning beds and that includes pesky little hooks! Lol. They also take free meals as they come, so if a worm happens to drop ontop of their nest while they are guarding it, they are willing to give it a try and see what happens. Thankfully we weren't unlucky and gut hooked one of them this time which is great. All the fish we snagged were released back and given their nesting grounds back! lol

Seeing the fish everywhere, we did manage to catch quite a good number of them. The best one was this little fella here though! They are the bluegill species and man are they a beautiful fish. I don't really like the sunfish most of the time, as they are kind of annoying to catch but they do have their occasional winners. This one was a good one and the patterns on them are really cool looking! We had fun getting out and about catching them, there were some really aggressive ones which was fun. The little man was a little sad at first for a while because he was really struggling to catch some fish. Thankfully he ended up turning his luck around and caught quite a few of them which made him and I happy! I really enjoy when he gets to have fun like that, as seeing the smile on their faces is what makes it all worth it!

Flipping the pictures into black and white was pretty cool. The water looks a lot murkier than it really was! It was certainly pretty windy outside though so that made a difference in how the pictures came out. My favorite is definitely the snap of the fish and the beauty of it with the sun shining off it.

That's a nice catch and it's awesome that your son got to catch some too. Little kiddos definitely don't like it when they can't get to share in the fun. Are those fish edible? I know you catch and release, but if you needed a meal, could you munch it?

Yeah it’s good when they catch them. I’ve been catching the fish lately and it’s fun for me but I feel bad the little man didn’t get any success lol. I even chose a lure that I thought wouldn’t do anything and of course I caught fish with it hahaha.

Yeah the sunfish are apparently pretty delicious. Not my cup of tea lol but we’ve been fishing when some people were catching them and putting them in a bag to bring home and eat. They are also called panfish, maybe because they take up the whole pan when you cook them? Not sure lol. If in a pinch though, we’d fry these bitches up!

How rude! Poor dudes are just trying to get lucky and catch some tail (pun intended with that, definitely) and there you are taking advantage of their unprotected selves. 😂

The fun of catching fish yourself and cooking it over coals at night is not the same as buying it from outside.

Yeah catching your own food is much more satisfying then buying it from a store!
