Italian Memories

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to reminisce a little bit about the amazing trip my wife and I took to Italy many years ago.

Italian Memories

With the folks in the awesome Italian community here, it's no shock what beautiful country they live in but one thing that I miss is being there! I know that's the case with a lot of travel, you enjoy yourself a lot and end up looking for a time to go back. With Italy though, it was a magnificent trip. I fear that sadly it may not be the same country to go back to when we do make our way back there at some point in our later years of life.

The scenery and history are certainly remarkable, as most people on the internet can attest. Rome was such a pivotal piece of world history, buildings like the Colosseum here have significance in many peoples memories. I'm very happy that we got to walk on the street next to it and venture inside of it!

Ah now the piece of Rome that most of the Italians hate. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier! Lol. We heard many times how ugly it was and how it didn't belong. It was still an incredible piece of architecture that will stand for many years. Will the people in another 2,000 years (if humans exist then and we haven't killed ourselves off.. lol) wonder at what this giant structure was for?

The Vatican is most certainly a beautiful place full of mystery, wonder, architecture and all kinds of stuff. It was really special to be able to stand there in Saint Peters square. We just missed the Pope giving a eulogy to the square when we were there, that would have been something cool to experience!

My absolute favorite though was the Italian countryside! It was a wonderful place full of delicious food, incredible people and a tenacity for keeping things local, sustainable and agriculture.

Looking up the hill at the beautiful city of Siena there is something to behold. The city has largely stayed the same over the hundreds of years since it was hit with a plague and even though that's a dark part if it's history, it's important nonetheless. Seeing how the people of the community have grown and kept the area surrounding it as farmland instead of developing a sprawling city is great. Farmland is important for Italians as it should be, since farmland is what keeps us fed and alive! Too much of this stuff is factory driven.

It was incredible all of the things that I learned when I was over there, in the heart of Wine Country in Tuscany. For example, putting roses at the ends of the rows of grapes here and in some places between helps alert the farmers when there is something amiss with the soil. Depending on the issue with the roses, such as discoloration, withering or other ailments, the farmers will know what they need to do in order to fix the soil and save their crop. That's some classic ingenuity for sure!

Thanks for taking a bit of a walk with me, even if it's in English. Dimentico tutti! Non posso parlare italiano nella cita habito. I guess I could spend more time in the community here and try to refresh my Italian! :D

Grazie mille tutti!

Incredible sights, amazing commentary and the beauty of the fields. I totally forgot the fact that some plants are kept around crops to check on important stuff just like you mentioned with roses.

I bet that's just a little of what you see during your trip. Italy is such a milestone in regards to history and western culture. Too bad I've never been around there. Hopefully, a lot of it will still exist if I ever have the chance to travel. It was too bad how it was affected by the pandemic, but it wasn't the first plague to attack the country.

I also like commentary on farmland. It is true. The land is the source of wealth in a country. Feeding people is an important part of oir culture and what has brought us from the times of hunters and gatherers to this whole societal endeavor.

Thanks man! It was an amazing trip to go on and definitely one I would recommend if we can manage to wrestle control away from the would-be rulers and their sadistic agenda to restrict people from traveling unless you give your papers, blood from your first born childs kidney, hair samples, fingerprints and three thousand dollars. We are meant to travel all around that's for sure!

There was so much history there it was pretty insane. It was hard to take it all in that's for sure! One thing we really appreciated was that even though the history was ugly, it was a part of their identity and culture. They weren't erasing history because it may have been ugly or someone didn't like it like the fucking pansies that are trying to do that in America. We need to learn from history and that's certainly the agenda right now, stop people from learning from their past mistakes as well as other peoples mistakes.

The city of Siena was nearly wiped out in the 1400's by the black plague I think, or the bubonic plague whatever it was. The inner city is largely the exact same as it was back then so many hundreds of years ago! It's incredible. They found ancient maps and diagrams of the city and the street names are even the same! It was amazing to learn that and so many other really cool tidbits about the place. I'll have to put together more pictures of the journey, we took about 6,500 lol so there's a lot to sift through :D

Farming is one of the most important things in the world, especially right now. Rich assholes like Gates and others are buying up all kinds of land both for farming as well as reservoirs to try and control and cut people off from what we need to survive. I am not trying to sound doom and gloom but we have to fight back from that shit if we want to keep our lives safe. Simple things like growing some of our own stuff can offset needs a lot, even if it isn't a lot. What we learned in Italy was remarkable and we have certainly applied some of the principles in our lives! We buy mostly from local farms now, even if it's a little bit more expensive than the grocery store initially, it works out in the end. Prices of things at our farms have largely been stable while things at the grocery stores have gone up considerably. Hopefully you have some farms near you that you may visit to get some fresh stuff!

There's a lot to do in the world to get around going the right way or at least on a better path. I bet one only end to look to history to get a glimpse of so many things. I'd love to travel, but unfortunately Venezuelan aren't very nice to all the world since 2016. I don't blame people because I know how a lot of us are. But let's see if I can escape this wonderland one day.

I thought the Americans had a keen eye to keep the historic events so everyone could learn from them. I guess it's not like oir romantic views on history and how everything has been changing gradually to rewrite all national history in favor of the regime. So much for History being written by winners, isn't it?

6500 photos? That's insane! But there isn't another another way to keep a lot of memories fresh. That's so cool!

And well, we don't have farms near. All the farm towns are far away. We are a coastal city. So at least we have decent prices on fish. I'd love to live near a farm to buy goods from a better place. Maybe try some of that work by myself. I haven't given up on that dream. You know, the harder simple life.

Very cool dude. We spent 4 weeks there during Christmas 2019. Apologies but if I don't stop now none of this will be good.

Hahah yeah I know man, you had a bad experience in Rome! We couldn't complain too much besides getting bed bugs in our hotel. Thankfully the bugs chose to eat me instead of my wife lol. Needless to say the first day at our next destination was spent at the laundromat! We still have some of the talcum powder we used to isolate our baggage to keep any potential bed bugs from getting into our luggage. It's next to me right now as a matter of fact, in a cabinet!

For sure man! it was all about the countryside for us. It was incredible to be in Rome for sure! But the areas outside of it, particularly Siena in Tuscany, were our absolute favorite. Such a beautiful country!

Unfortunately I never made it to those places most of my time and n Italy was in the south and working in our base at Brindisi spent multiple weeks there on various visits but only ever had two weekends free to explore the coast and countryside

Ah yeah makes sense lol. I had family stationed there many years ago for one reason or another. Said it was beautiful but hard to travel being on the ship (navy). At least you got to see part of the country!

Such wonderful pictures - I'm sure they don't do justice to what you saw there.

Thanks for sharing, @cmplxty
