Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to add my own little flavor to the Hi from Hive community and what it means to me!

Hive: A Home on the Internet

One of the things that has been a wonderful experience for me in my internet journey on Hive is what so many people have done. We came for the allure of money but ended up staying long-term for the community of people.

If you've been on the internet for the past few decades, one thing you'll know is that the internet is full of a lot of people who are very rude and just generally not a good group of people. In the mainstream platforms like F, T and I (you can probably figure out what ones I'm talking about without giving them any additional name traffic) there is so much hate, division and just general distasteful people and actions proliferating all over the platform. I am not going to say that Hive is perfect, no place on the internet is especially one where you have more freedom than you do elsewhere but overall, the caliber of people on here is absolutely remarkable.

Hive, to me, feels like the dark and secretive hallway down from a corridor, kind of like the picture below.

The hall looks gloomy and a little creepy at first glance, you aren't sure what's going to be at the end of the hall. At first you are presented with this online platform that doesn't really have an organized "this is what you need to do" type of thing. As time goes on, you read some things and learn some nuances. Thankfully, we now have formalized front-ends and ways to hint at people that you should introduce yourself to the wide array of community members and beginner-dedicated groups!

What you find after some time exploring is the sheer, vast number of communities out there! You can spend an entire week in a popular community and not get to all of the active posts, never mind the posts past payout. That's a wonderful amount of content that dozens or hundreds of people are putting onto the blockchain, permanently, every single day and week!

There is a niche for everyone.

  • If you are interested in travel, we have a community for that!
  • If you are interested in food, we have a community for that!
  • If you are interested in DIY, we have a community for that!
  • If you are a developer, we have a community for that!

The breadth of Hive is wild and why I call it my favorite home on the internet right now. I've grown as an individual and parent while on the platform. I have gained skill, as rough as one could say they are (not claiming any success lol) in writing and blogging that's for sure. I find the ability to write down things on a day to day basis as a way to catalog my thoughts, have a bit of a cathartic experience and meet some wonderful people. I write about all kinds of topics, travel, DIY, food, photography and follow people that do equally a very wide array of topics themselves. This leads to some interesting and awesome things on a daily basis!

The people I've met on here are seriously the reason that I am on here all the time! I have virtually met some amazing people and I know that will lead to lifelong friendships, either on here or if someone decides to part ways. I know I will keep in touch with these people and I would hope they would I.

One of the other things that's a big benefit to me is getting exposure to people throughout the entire world. I communicate routinely on any given week with people that live in New Zealand, Australia, Philippines, Africa, India, various European countries and certainly people that also live in the United States. This sheer exposure to dozens of cultures and backgrounds is one of my favorite things about being on here and the people on here. When we only spend time in our neighborhoods where we live and don't get exposure to people of different countries and cultures, I think we tend to not have a worldly experience. It's humbling to speak with and get different peoples perspectives. On the mainstream platforms, I think they purposely keep people separated based on their algorithms that are focused on driving revenue and clicks more than anything.

On hive, you make your own choice! Follow who you like and see their posts (almost) regardless of any other factors! You won't get something that awesome on the other platforms.

The final piece to mention of course, is all of this fantastic behavior is monetized but that's not the core focus of my or so many others time spent on here. It is an added benefit to have extra avenues of income for the future but interacting with people and earning a little bit of fun-money is an incredible combination!

Hive has presented me with an opportunity to learn about so many things in life. It’s one of my favorite hobbies to be able to learn about cryptocurrency, development, gaming and sports all in a 5 minute scroll of my feed. This breadth of opportunity to learn something instead of mindlessly scrolling and looking at pictures of animals then the story to make you angry, then another animal picture is why I call this place my home on the internet. People are awesome, learning opportunities everywhere and it’s cutting edge as far as the future of the internet.

If you've made it this far and want to participate in the Hi from Hive contest, check out this link to give it a shot!

I'm secretly very happy to use the cool hallway picture, was trying to figure out how to use that! I took that recently.

Lol well there's going to be the person to do that in a lot of places. Thankfully I don't spend time in areas where there's a lot of dogs shit. Hopefully you don't run into it too much.

Smooth hallway moves. This is my only home on the internet. I'm glad you're here.

For sure, I'm humbled regularly. Things like someone who's never seen the ocean. Humbling.

When I get to writing notes like that all day, things around me don't look the same anymore. Natural doesn't exist, instead everything is being documented. That's when I need a break.

Very nice read Cmplxty.
