Goodbye Twatter

Hi fellow Ranters,

Today I made the final move to get rid of the mainstream blood in me: deleted twitter!

Burned my Twitter account!

Bad Vibes

Deleting my Twitter account was a great moment for me. I’m by far not a Twitter addict, I honestly only used it for promoting posts from hive here but it didn’t really get me anything special for it, so I took my own social media ownership and took them out of the equation.

I still have some job related profiles but that’s far more on the focus of careers than it is anything social. I catch up with folks I haven’t talked to in a long time here and there but for the most part it’s strictly business, better than a mullet. (Anyone remember those nowadays?)

I think getting rid of one of the other cancerous platforms like Twatter was a great move to get me into a more ownership mindset where I don’t let them sell my content on their platform and me not get even a thousandth of a penny. Not going to fly for longer once the hive experiment and others go more mainstream. I’m slowly phasing out other things like YouTube and gmail as well, I removed most of the channels I follow on YouTube because I know they just sell my profile information and what I look at to companies so I’ve started to go to the sources themselves, the content creators websites. This has been a good way to still give them my attention but also get traffic on their website instead of the mainstream platforms. The more we do this type of thing, the less control these companies can have over the message.

It felt great to delete my 150 or so tweets one by one and make the account bare. I forgot to delete the profile picture as well but the account is deactivated now so nothing I can do anymore for that one. Good riddance!

Congratulations. One of my best friends wife and I are the only people I know who never even did the face one. I never did those things.

Remember? I'm so confused. I just got my hair did today. That's me practicing a b minor.

That's great, I did the face one when it was still kind of cool back when they first came out with it. I shut mine off about 4 years ago now but stopped using it nearly entirely about 5. Stuff is poison, especially when all of the content is negative really. Keeps pushing hate.

Jealous? She's my stylist. I can't see the back anyway, she assures me it's attractive.

Been off Fakebook for 4 years now! Siena uses it for the business that's about it. She's found hundreds of customers on it so we have to keep it for that. Otherwise cya!

Very nicely done mate! I deleted my personal FB account and really close to deleting my FB page too. Kinda done with that whole thing. I'm still on Twitter for the moment but I probably won't be on there for much longer. Way too distracting, way too much BS going on and like you say, the whole data selling thing doesn't sit well with me. I'm moving away from gmail too and looking at privacy email services like protonmail - well worth researching if you haven't already.

That's awesome man, same here I deleted my Fakebook years ago. I also purged my account of info, they keep it stored I'm sure but I made it a little harder for them to bring it back.

There's so much hate going on twitter and Fakebook I knew I wanted to get away from all that as soon as I could. It's sad that some people get all of their information from that.

I have a ProtonMail account but I need to transition over to using it. I actually have two but I forget the password for my first one lol

Yeah man, sounds like you are in a better place now and our data is probably everywhere anyway so the best we can do is make it as difficult as possible anyway!

Good call on the Proton Mail, I have a few email addresses with them. There's some other temporary email accounts you can get for one off purchases which is good as well. Being in crypto has taught me a lot about privacy and looking after your details for sure!

Interesting! I got back after a few months leaving that place. Now after back I found that it's actually useful when used in a professional manner. I think for me now, twitter is a place to socialize professionally instead of actually blurting out my mind.

Yeah I use the other dedicated job professional sites for that though it seems to be good for you so I’m glad!

LinkedIn is really not my taste. I had an account since I was 19. It was weird to be there but I learned a lot 😂 eventually closed down the account as it was not for me. Maybe soon when I am desperately needed to network, I'd use it again. Twitter does the job for me because so many indie makers there and they always share their invention and their projects they are working on.

What is ProtonMail?

It’s an awesome encrypted email account. The storage isn’t as large as the big companies but they don’t sell your data and if you forget your password and reset it, all previous emails are unreadable. It’s a great service that’s for free initially but you can pay to get more storage later if you like. It’s a great system! ProtonMail.com I think is the website, I usually use the app on my phone.

I've had twitter for a long while and only recently started thinking of deactivating but I won't. Let's see if I can do some serious business there.

Yeah Macchiata also uses her Twitter for business and it’s definitely a good tool for the right people. I’m not one of those people but you do what you can! I hope you get some success out of it, it’s certainly one of the many tools we can use.
