Furry Farm Friends

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to explore one of the farms we stumbled on last year that we decided to visit again!

Furry Farm Friends

If you've been to my page at all, you know that we are really avid outdoors people! We spend most of our time outdoors where life is supposed to be experienced, not cooped up inside! I think this really helps with the educational stuff for the little man and I will indulge him in this as much as humanely possible!

Farms are one of our go-to spots when we are looking for some adventures outside but unsure of a specific destination and to appreciate what nature has out there for us. This particular farm in Southern New Hampshire has a lot to offer! It's got all kinds of furry critters to check out and even give a little bit of feed to. The donkeys here were interested in gobbling up all the food we could give them! I stopped the little man from doing too much though, we only had goat food and I don't want to upset the tummies of the other animals.

That goats were a bit aggressive as you can clearly see lmao he was trying to grab my phone! The day we visited the farm was a bit on the warmer side so all the animals were standing around trying to cool off as much as they could. I couldn't imagine wearing a few dozen pounds of wool on my back while enduring the heat! I think they will likely shear them soon, that way they can also sell the wool!

The favorite of the little man for sure though were these adorable bunnies! He spent most of his time snuggling them and hanging out with them lol it was fun to watch. He even tried to convince me to take one home, but I wasn't going to budge on that one. Eventually I think we will have a few critters in the yard but not yet! I know that some people raise bunnies as meat ones and that's where I'm leaning to. Not to sound terrible but the intentional price spike of the foods like that are going to drive us to do things on our own that's for sure. I refuse to eat the damn bugs let me tell you!

This giant mamma cow was a bit on the unfriendly side. She was interested if we had any food in our hands but once she realized we didn't, she was outta there. I guess I can't blame her, the flies were all over her and being annoying. I was trying to give her a scratch, I know a lot of cows like when you can give them a nice scratch!

The baby lamb though, this one was the ticket! I spoke to one of the farm workers and she said it was born just a few days ago! Score on being here to see that one! The thing was still suckling at the momma, though I don't know how long they do that. The little tike was hot and tired, he pranced around and then flopped down for a nice break every few minutes. It was awesome lol

Here we had sir bacon. This was a pretty friendly pig that's for sure! I know that pigs are delicious but this one was cool too. The hair on it was a bit brutal, very rough and scaly but it was friendly enough so I enjoyed hanging out with it for a minute and talking to it. It popped its head up every so often to check. I gave it a few blades of grass to eat but it wasn't very interested in that, it wanted corn or other animal feed.

The ducks here were stoked! The woman changed the water in their pond and they were loving it, fluffing around and all that. They were loud as hell too! The ducks are another species that I'm considering for our eventual little farm. I haven't told my wife any of this yet hahaha so I don't know how she's going to handle it but I think it's going to be important for us to get back to our roots and learn these things again. We have to take care of ourselves and our families and the best way we can do that is to be as much of our own food supply as we can!

You’re going to be on the vegetarian hate list for talking about eating those cute bunnies and calling the pig Mr Bacon.😂

I wish people here knew how to shear wool. It’s a waste how much these animals here are walking with and sure it’s very inconvenient for them when the heat comes.

Hahahah well animals are food! You can't deny that. It's not easy to take it sometimes but we gotta eat! I think it's important to understand that we appreciate the life that the animal has but part of their purpose sometimes is to end up being used for food. The life cycle and even humans are subject to it! We die and get buried which feeds other things. Maybe I got too philosophical on it lol but I'm working on getting over the fact that some animals need to be used for food otherwise we are doomed to eat fake meat filled with all kinds of bad shit. I'll take my pasture raised animals!

I think shearing wool is important as it provides lots of opportunity. I know that sometimes it's just something that people need to get used to doing. If people where you live don't shear it, you seriously might have a big opportunity on your hands! It takes work for sure but that's what happens when you find a niche that needs filling.

I think an opportunity arises when the people need the service. Problem is, people here don’t see the point in shearing wool. Hell they wouldn’t know what do with wool if they shear it(I don’t think even I understand it properly). They at least need to understand how it’ll be of benefit to them to want to do it.

I’ll do some reading on it and I’ll see what presents itself.

There are many uses for wool that's for sure! You can create all kinds of sheets, towels, lots of clothing needs for it but it can also make some great thread and all that. It takes work but I think with anything, if you dedicate some time to it and learn how to craft it which is actually a lot easier in the days of YouTube, you can likely make a niche for yourself.

Bunnies are definitely darn cute!

That’s great welcome to hive! It’s an amazing place and keep up the exploring of peoples content, dropping comments is more important than anything in your first weeks and months! It’s still important no matter how long you’re on here but in the beginning it’s crucial.
