Discovering a niche pub: Osteria Caramel!

There are many clubs in my city but yesterday walking through the streets of the historic center with some friends, I noticed a small pub, Osteria Caramel, of which I honestly never had the opportunity to even enter and observe the place. Since we were looking for a quiet pub in which to drink a glass of wine and eat some delicious food, we decided to sit inside the restaurant and the choice was really positive.

Upon entering, the first effect was slightly claustrophobic: the furniture is in dark wood, a color that alone fills the narrow space, the presence of tables, stools and objects such as chess and checkers, have still somewhat restricted the environment . But it is a rather momentary effect because you get used to it immediately and the sight begins to study a bit the many decorative objects such as the posters of cult films of foreign and Italian cinema.

In the wall a huge wooden barrel-shaped structure has been created in which the bottles of wine, distinguished by type and gradation, are placed and kept. Massimo, the owner and the only waiter, made us sit in the corner near the wines, comfortably seated on comfortable cushions, and served us some glasses of red wine and a tray of mixed shapes, cold cuts and local focaccia.

In the background 80s rock and pop music, an arrangement certainly not contemporary but if you are about forty and your cultural background is rock, this is the right place to be, modern music is practically abolished. Being lunchtime, Massimo has just baked a delicious pan of rice, potatoes and mussels, a recipe from Southern Italy, in particular from the Puglia region, a masterpiece for those who love tradition, combining both the flavor of the sea and the earth. The perfume has definitely filled the air of the place and it is really impossible not to ask for a little taste, it is a bit like being at home when your mother prepares a delicious piazzo for us.

Massimo is a fairly silent type, a little different from the classic chatty and often intrusive restaurateurs. He is there who tirelessly prepares cocktails or aperitifs and stays on the sidelines, a bit in his world that the site is built with care and love and which today he shares with all those who enter his American bar.

We really spent an hour in excellent company and enjoying a very good red wine, accompanied by many small culinary delicacies and very pleasant music. The bill was cheaper than I thought, about 8 euros each and I am really very satisfied. A place where I will definitely come back to drink more wine and leave the big chaotic world out there a bit outside that little door.
