To talk about the Knights of the Zodiac is simply to remember the best anime of all history, of course, it is a very personal appreciation that I am making, for some it may be Dragon Ball or others that I will not name in this opportunity. The truth is that Saint Seiya has transcended between the anime, and today although in much less production than before, they continue creating new adaptations, all are outside the canon (spin off) while the original story ends to be produced, will we get to the end? Maybe someday, but we don't know for sure.

The story, well known to many, is centered in the country of Japan, precisely in an orphanage, where there are many children who have seen firsthand the misfortune of life, so they are introduced by their caregivers to the path of becoming knights so that in the future they will fight for justice. This path means first of all separation between them, there are brothers who must say "see you soon or never" when leaving for their rigorous training, besides that it means pain, loneliness and even death.

The central idea is to return with the bronze armor, which accredits them as knights of Athena, "the goddess" whom they serve and for whom they must give their lives if necessary. The context of the whole story is based on Greek mythology, central reason why we see that in the Saint Seiya universe there are infinite "gods", something common within their polytheism, and in that sense different types of knights are noted, the protagonists serve Athena, others serve Poseidon, some serve Hades, others Zeus, etc., in the end it is a war for the domination of the cosmos in which humans are involved, and these young knights once returned from their hard training must face the forces of evil to protect the world and their goddess.

Hablar acerca de los Caballeros del Zodiaco es sencillamente recordar el mejor anime de toda la historia, claro está, es una apreciación muy personal la que estoy haciendo, para unos puede ser Dragón ball u otros más que no voy a nombrar en esta oportunidad. Lo cierto es que Saint Seiya ha trascendido entre los anime, y al día de hoy aunque en mucha menos producción que antes, siguen creando nuevas adaptaciones , todas estás fuera del canon (spinnoff) mientras que la historia original termina de ser producida, ¿llegaremos al fin? Quizás algún día, pero a ciencia cierta es algo que no sabemos.

La historia, bien conocida por muchos, se centra en el país de Japón, precisamente en un orfanato, donde hay muchos niños que han visto de primera mano la desdicha de la vida, por lo que son introducidos por sus cuidadores al camino de convertirse en caballeros para que en un futuro luchen por la justicia. Este camino significa en primer lugar separación entre ellos, hay hermanos que deben decirse “hasta pronto o hasta nunca” al momento de partir a sus rigurosos entrenamientos, además de eso significa dolor, soledad e incluso la muerte.

La idea central es volver con la armadura de bronce, lo cual les acredita como caballeros de Athena, “la diosa” a quien ellos sirven y por quien deberán dar la vida si es necesario. El contexto de toda la historia se basa en la mitología griega, razón central por la que vemos que en el universo Saint Seiya existen infinidades de “dioses”, algo común dentro de su politeísmo, y en ese sentido se notan diferentes tipos de caballeros, los protagonistas sirven a Athena, otros sirven a Poseidón, algunos a Hades, otros a Zeus, etc., al final es una guerra por el dominio del cosmos en la que los humanos se ven involucrados, y estos jóvenes caballeros una vez vueltos de su duro entrenamiento deberán hacer frente a las fuerzas del mal para proteger al mundo y a su diosa.

He is quite bold in the way he speaks, but at the same time he is very brave and focused on what he must do. Protecting Saori (Athena's incarnation) is his priority, and in most of the sagas he risks his life to do so. Today he may be the favorite character of many due to his personality, and it is understandable, as he is one of the main characters and the most iconic of all. Seiya is the knight of Pegasus, but on occasion he has benefited from the golden armor of Sagittarius, which he has worn to fight powerful enemies. His personal life is quite sad, behind all that recklessness is the sadness and pain of not finding his sister, from whom he was separated in his childhood.

La temeridad de Seiya es algo notable, es un caballero que no teme a nada por decirlo de alguna manera, y muchas veces hace cosas que no debe trayendo un peligro sobre sí mismo y sobre los demás, esta cualidad en su carácter es la que predomina en su personaje, y es la misma que siempre le lleva a alcanzar sus objetivos. Es bastante osado en su forma de hablar, pero a su vez es muy valiente y centrado en lo debe hacer. Proteger a Saori (encarnación de Athena) es su prioridad, y en la mayoría de las sagas arriesga su vida para hacerlo. Hoy en día puede ser el personaje favorito de muchos debido a su personalidad, y es algo entendible, pues es uno de los principales y el más icónico de todos. Seiya es el caballero de Pegaso, pero en ocasiones ha sido beneficiado con la armadura dorada de Sagitario, la cual ha vestido para luchar contra enemigos poderosos. Su vida personal es bastante triste, detrás de toda esa temeridad esta la tristeza y el dolor de no encontrar a su hermana, de quien fue separado en su infancia.

The dragon knight, a true samurai but without a sword, is a character who always steps forward when the situation becomes more dangerous, his life is important, but for him his friends are more precious, his ideals are quite righteous, and sometimes he gives his life practically to death in order to save others. Because of this he loses his sight in a fight, where he damages it himself to defeat a very difficult enemy, a scene that has surely been engraved in the hearts of many viewers. Shiru is the opposite of Seiya, is shown as a fairly mature character, thoughtful and calculating, acts when necessary and never gets carried away by his passions, you can say that always does the right thing.

El caballero dragón, un auténtico samurái pero sin espada, es un personaje que siempre da el paso adelante cuando la situación se vuelve más peligrosa, su vida es importante, pero para él sus amigos son más preciados, sus ideales son bastante justos, y en ocasiones entrega su vida prácticamente a la muerte con la finalidad de salvar a los demás. Debido a esto pierde la vista en un combate, donde el mismo se la daña para así vencer a un enemigo muy difícil, una escena que seguramente ha quedado grabada en el corazón de muchos televidentes. Shiru es todo lo contrario a Seiya, se muestra como un personaje bastante maduro, pensador y calculador, actúa cuando es necesario y nunca se deja llevar por sus pasiones, se puede decir que siempre hace lo correcto.

Hyoga's life is one of the most fractured in the Saint Seiya universe, he is a rather sentimental character, something that becomes his main weakness in battles. It turns out that when he was a child he lost his mother on a sea voyage and that marks him in a pretty deep way. In the orphanage he does not receive love, and in his training much less, when he becomes a knight he hides his pain through battles, and although he is very intelligent at the time of combat he is the weakest of the main characters. His master tries to help him by burying his mother in the deepest part of the sea, so that he can leave that memory behind and move forward as a knight but it turns out to be the opposite, after that in another of the sagas a training friend who took the path of Poseidon also tries to help him but fails. It is not until the saga of Hades that he is able to move forward in the midst of his pain, when he finally understands the teaching of both his teacher and his friend Isaac.

La vida de Hyoga es una de más fracturadas del universo Saint Seiya, es un personaje bastante sentimental, algo que se vuelve su principal debilidad en las batallas. Resulta que cuando era niño perdió a su madre en un viaje marítimo y eso lo marca de una forma bastante profunda. En el orfanato no recibe amor, y en su entrenamiento mucho menos, cuando se convierte en caballero esconde su dolor a través de las batallas, y aunque es muy inteligente al momento de los combates es el más débil de los personajes principales. Su maestro trata de ayudarlo sepultando a su madre en lo más profundo del mar, para que deje ese recuerdo atrás y siga adelante como caballero pero resulta en todo lo contrario, posterior a eso en otra de las sagas un amigo de entrenamiento que tomo el camino de Poseidón también trata de ayudarlo pero falla. No es sino hasta la saga de Hades que puede avanzar en medio de su dolor, cuando al fin comprende la enseñanza tanto de su maestro como de su amigo Isaac.

Ikki and Shun, two brothers who are separated at the time of traveling to become knights, Ikki is the older of them, he has a strong and protective attitude, but Shun is quite the opposite, he is weak and quite dependent. The destiny of both of them changes when Ikki decides to take his brother's place to the Island of Queen Death, and Shun is sent to the island of Andromeda. This is the place where they both become knights, but the process is quite an ordeal for the older brother. Ikki becomes the knight of the Phoenix, and is the strongest of all the Bronze knights, as the story develops he advances to be stronger than several golden knights, he is my favorite character, he has many skills in combat and is always ready to fight against the most powerful enemies. Initially he fought against the same bronze knights whom he hated, but after that he joins them to fight on the side of justice. He is a solitary person, he does not like to hang out in groups, but he can always be counted on.

Shun becomes the knight of Andromeda, but always shows that he does not like to fight, his personality is affable and his appearance is usually quite fragile, however he is one of the strongest bronze knights, he has a hidden power that "seals" in a certain way because it is extremely destructive. He only uses it when necessary, and only once his enemies have resisted him. He is rarely seen annoyed, as he is quite calm, but being a knight he gives his life to the ideal of justice, protect Saori and others whatever it takes.

Ikki y Shun, dos hermanos que son separados al momento de viajar para convertirse en caballeros, Ikki es el mayor de ellos, tiene una actitud fuerte y protectora, pero Shun es todo lo contrario, es débil y bastante dependiente. El destino de ambos cambia cuando Ikki decide tomar el lugar de su hermano hacia la Isla de la reina muerte, y envían a Shun a la isla de Andrómeda. Este es el lugar donde ambos se convierten en caballeros, pero el proceso es todo un calvario para el hermano mayor. Ikki se convierte en el caballero del Fénix, y es el más fuerte de todos los caballeros de Bronce, a medida que se desarrolla la historia avanza hasta ser más fuerte que varios caballeros dorados, es mi personaje favorito, tiene muchas habilidades en el combaten y siempre está dispuesto a luchar contra los enemigos más poderosos. Inicialmente lucho contra los mismos caballeros de bronce a quienes odiaba, pero posterior a eso se les une para luchar del bando de la justicia. Es una persona solitaria, no le gusta andar en grupos, pero siempre se puede contar con él.

Shun se convierte en el caballero de Andrómeda, pero siempre demuestra que no le gusta pelear, su personalidad es afable y su apariencia suele ser bastante frágil, sin embargo es uno de los más fuertes caballeros de bronce, tiene un poder oculto que “sella” de cierta forma porque es sumamente destructivo. Solo lo usa cuando es necesario, y en una sola oportunidad sus enemigos lo han resistido. Muy pocas veces se le ve molesto, ya que es bastante tranquilo, pero siendo un caballero entrega su vida al ideal de la justicia, proteger a Saori y a los demás cueste lo que cueste.

So many things to say about this anime, I think I could write a book about it. The Knights of the Zodiac is one of the best that could have been produced, its soundtrack is spectacular, unique really, the plot surrounding the characters is excellent, and although I will never believe in polytheism it is interesting to see how the author Kurumada develops all this mythology through the different sagas. Each one of the characters shows a growth in their character, they usually keep their personality, but you can notice the improvement in each one of them, this is a very important point in long stories, there must be a growth, and in this case it has been achieved. The animation of this series has had its ups and downs, the first saga of Hades was a milestone at the time, but then declined perhaps due to lack of budget or poor quality of the studio. Finally and to conclude, an important point to highlight also, are the armors, the design of them is unique, both the bronze armor, as the silver, the golden, and those of the enemies, are one of the most striking elements of the entire series, so much so, that often you see very good cosplays of these characters.

Son tantas cosas que decir de este anime, que pienso que puedo escribir un libro al respecto. Los Caballeros del Zodiaco es de lo mejor que se ha podido producir, su banda sonora es espectacular, única realmente, la trama que rodea a los personajes es excelente, y aunque jamás creeré en el politeísmo es interesante ver como el autor Kurumada desarrolla toda esta mitología a través de las diferentes sagas. Cada uno de los personajes muestra un crecimiento en su carácter, suelen mantener su personalidad, pero se nota la mejoría en cada uno de ellos, este es un punto importantísimo en las historias largas, debe existir un crecimiento, y en este caso se ha logrado. La animación de esta serie ha tenido sus altos y sus bajos, la primera saga de Hades marco un hito en su momento, pero después decayeron quizás por falta de presupuesto o mala calidad del estudio. Por último y para concluir, un punto importante a resaltar también, son las armaduras, el diseño de las mismas es único, tanto las armaduras de bronce, como las de plata, las doradas, y las de los enemigos, son uno de los elementos más llamativos de toda la serie, tanto así, que a menudo se ven muy buenos cosplays de estos personajes.
