Nuevamente escribiendo para esta comunidad de maternidad, un tema de interés como es la poliomielitis (polio), esta una enfermedad infecto-contagiosa que afecta el sistema nervioso central.

Puede causar inflamación del cerebro y de las neuronas motoras de la médula espinal, llegando a causar atrofia muscular, parálisis, parálisis permanente, deformidad y hasta la muerte.

Again writing for this maternity community, a topic of interest as is the polio (polio), this an infectious-contagious disease that affects the central nervous system.

El 24 de octubre se celebra el Día Mundial contra la Polio cada año se realizan campañas que pretenden concienciar y ayudar a erradicar la polio en el mundo, le doy gracias a @actioncats quien recordó con su publicación que este día es un recordatorio para luchar contra la polio.

La fecha escogida es un tributo y celebración al nacimiento de Jonas Salk, el investigador estadounidense que hizo posible el desarrollo de la vacuna que logró prevenir esta terrible enfermedad.

Esta enfermedad se transmite de una persona a otra por vía oral, ya que el virus se transporta en el agua o con los alimentos contaminados con materia fecal de otra persona infectada.

Al llegar al intestino el virus se multiplica y se excreta, propagándose entre unos y otros, aunque es una enfermedad infecciosa, puede combatirse y evitarse con la vacunación.

Para este año 2021 se dará continuidad al lema "Fin a la Polio" (End Polio), cuya campaña se extiende a nivel mundial, para apoyar los esfuerzos de erradicar esta enfermedad y reforzar las acciones de vigilancia epidemiológica.

En esta oportunidad como cada año realizamos una actividad para apoyar este día contra la polio, educar para prevenir, esta vez siendo parte de Hive he decidido realizar esta publicación como reflexión y recordatorio para cada uno de nosotros los padres de ayudar a nuestros hijos a ejercer el derecho a la salud en este caso a través de las vacunas y garantizar una vida más sana y feliz.

Ese niño que ven en la fotografía anterior es mi esposo Hector, nació en el año 1967, de una cesárea y sin ningún tipo de patología o enfermedad, según me cuenta su mamá a los nueve meses caminaba y hablaba perfectamente.

Todo iba muy bien hasta que a los 13 meses (1 año con y un mes) comenzó con una fiebre elevada de 40 grados, sin razón aparente, al llevarlo al medico ese mismo día su mamá notificó que no se movió toda la noche ni cambio su posición.

That child you see in the picture above is my husband Hector, he was born in 1967, from a cesarean section and without any type of pathology or disease, according to what his mother tells me at nine months old he was walking and talking perfectly.

Everything was going very well until at 13 months (1 year and a month) he began with a high fever of 40 degrees, for no apparent reason, when we took him to the doctor that same day his mother reported that he did not move all night or change his position.

El médico del hospital del niño en Maracaibo estado Zulia que lo atendió le diagnosticó Polio, para entonces ya hospitalizado con un respirador artificial, porque su sistema respiratorio había sufrido una parálisis.

Antes de salir esa tarde el médico le dijo a esta madre que se preparara para una posible pérdida porque su hijo estaba en estado crítico de salud.

The doctor at the children's hospital in Maracaibo, Zulia state who attended him diagnosed him with Polio, by then he was already hospitalized with an artificial respirator, because his respiratory system had suffered paralysis.

Before leaving that afternoon the doctor told this mother to prepare for a possible loss because her son was in critical health condition.

Como toda madre aferrada a sus santos le pidió por la salud de su hijo ese día, para llegar al siguiente y ser recibida por un fuerte abrazo del médico tratante, quien le dijo "es un milagro" para entonces Hector ya respiraba, aunque el médico también le dijo; que hubiera sido mejor que el niño falleciera porque no iba a poder moverse nunca más en su vida, simplemente era un pedazo de carne.

Tras días de estar hospitalizado, fue dado de alta médica, para entonces no movia ninguna parte de su cuerpo, desde ese día comenzaron la fisioterapias, electroterapias y magneto terapias en la clínica san Rafael en Maracaibo, para rehabilitar los músculos, a los dos años su mamá, se lo presentó caminando nuevamente a el médico que una vez le dijo; que solo era y seria toda la vida un pedazo de carne en estado vegetativo.

After days of being hospitalized, he was medically discharged, by then he did not move any part of his body, from that day on he started physiotherapies, electrotherapies and magneto therapies in the San Rafael clinic in Maracaibo, to rehabilitate the muscles, two years later his mother presented him walking again to the doctor who once told him; that he was and would be all his life a piece of meat in a vegetative state.

A los cinco años comenzaron las operaciones para reconstrucción y acortamiento de tendones ya que parte su pierna derecha, se había rotado completamente y eso causaba impedimento para la marcha, ya que las secuelas predominaron en la parte derecha del cuerpo.

Fueron en total catorce operaciones para lograr que Hector mejorara su andar hasta los 21 años de edad, aunque pasó muchos meses de su niñez solo, en una habitación con muchos amiguitos con diferentes tipos de discapacidad, atendidos por las manos de una monja y no la de su mamá, quizas su segundo hogar, Hector fue valiente, aunque cuando cuenta su historia a nuestros hijos, no deja de brotar una lágrima por aquellos necesarios pero tristes recuerdos de su niñez.

When he was five years old, the operations for reconstruction and shortening of tendons began, since part of his right leg had been completely rotated and that caused an impediment to walking, since the sequelae predominated in the right side of the body.

There were a total of fourteen operations for Hector to improve his walking until he was 21 years old, although he spent many months of his childhood alone, in a room with many friends with different types of disabilities, cared for by the hands of a nun and not his mother, perhaps his second home, Hector was brave, although when he tells his story to our children, a tear does not stop flowing for those necessary but sad memories of his childhood.

Los zapatos ortopédicos, la silla de rueda eran los sustitutos de los patines y triciclos que a esa edad todo niño quiere tener, acurrucado en una cama que no era la suya y añorando cada dia ver el rostro de su madre y sentir su más tierno abrazo, durante cuatro o cinco meses, solo podía verla cuatro veces por mes, cada sábado cuando le permitian visitarlo en el hospital, en breves horas de visitas.

Una situación nada fácil para un niño ni para unos padres, que ha esa edad tan pequeños y vulnerables solo desean cuidar y proteger a sus hijos, recuerda Hector que "fueron mis padres que nunca se mostraron tristes ni vencidos, todo lo contrario agotaron todos los recursos pàra ayudarme a avanzar y ser lo que soy".

The orthopedic shoes, the wheelchair were the substitutes for the skates and tricycles that at that age every child wants to have, curled up in a bed that was not his own and longing every day to see his mother's face and feel her tender embrace, for four or five months, he could only see her four times a month, every Saturday when he was allowed to visit him in the hospital, in short visiting hours.

It was not an easy situation for a child or for parents, who at such a young and vulnerable age only want to take care and protect their children. Hector remembers that "my parents were never sad or defeated, on the contrary, they exhausted all their resources to help me move forward and become what I am ".

Para Hector el tiempo pasó y con él su vida tras la polio, aún con un 70% de atrofiamiento muscular, la imprudencia de la gente él se convirtió en una historia de muchas más que hay en el mundo, gracias a Dios y al amor, voluntad y fe de una madre hoy ese niño, joven, adulto y mañana anciano podrá dar testimonio de la vida de manera tan positiva y expresar; "tengo suerte de estar vivo", porque tener a la polio como compañera de vida no es fácil.

Me pregunto ¿cómo llegó el virus? era un niño pequeño, que no salía de casa, no estaba en etapa escolar, había recibido según todas sus vacunas.. entonces ¿que paso?, aun con esta incertidumbre como familia con un sobreviviente de polio, deseamos educar para prevenir y no lamentar.

La vacunación es la mejor manera de prevenir esta enfermedad, que está en proceso de erradicación mundial, padres y madres de familia a mantener al día los cartones de vacunación de sus hijos e hijas, a fin de erradicar la Polio y evitar otras enfermedades prevenibles por vacunas.

I wonder how did the virus arrive, he was a small child, he did not leave home, he was not in school, he had received all his vaccinations, so what happened, even with this uncertainty as a family with a polio survivor, we want to educate to prevent and not to regret.

Vaccination is the best way to prevent this disease, which is in the process of global eradication, parents to keep up to date the vaccination cards of their children, in order to eradicate polio and avoid other vaccine-preventable diseases.

Como padres de familia, por supuesto queremos proteger a nuestros hijos de grandes peligros, inclusive aún más, queremos estar seguros que hicimos todo lo posible para prevenir los riesgos, no podemos imaginar que nuestros hijos contraigan una enfermedad de la que tuvimos la oportunidad de brindar alguna protección, pero no lo hicimos.

Eso y las experiencias vividas día a día con papá en la familia nos a enseñado a educar nuestra conciencia para dar la oportunidad a nuestros hijos de recibir sus vacunas en el tiempo adecuado y de esta manera ejercer su derecho a la salud.

Vacunemos a nuestros hijos, no esperemos al último momento, sigamos con rigor los tiempos definidos para que nuestros hijos crezcan sanos, felices y seguros. Un acto de amor por la salud de nuestros hijos. ❤❤
