PLEASURES OF FEBRUARY SERIES: BEING SINGLE IS NOT A CRIME (BASED ON A TRUE LIFE STORY)

Tears roll down Brenda’s cheeks as she recounts her bitter experience in the hands of peer pressure.

Brenda, aged 17, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, a fair, beautiful young lady with big dreams. She was always admired by her friends because of her beauty and nice body shape, they always referred to her as Miss Petite. Shhhh!! I heard she got that name from men who visits her in secret places.

Brenda in the hospital

Brenda suddenly cannot fathom how she got herself in this thick web with no help in sight. Brenda fell sick for months and failed basic medication, after lots of treatment and therapy, the doctor later confirmed she had Cervical cancer aside from all the broken bones she had. Her parents were shocked as everybody begged to ask WHAT WENT WRONG? WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR BRIGHT CHILD WITH A PROMISING FUTURE?

Let’s rewind the true life story to know how it all started…

Cindy, Brenda's best friend

Brenda, a High school student with great grades had a best friend named Cindy. Cindy was quite the opposite of Brenda and everyone always wondered how they were both best of friends.

Cindy was wayward and the life of every party. She always told Brenda of her many escapades and made her feel like she was a lonely fellow. Brenda, after much pressure from her best friend decided to leave her “boring life” and taste the good forbidden fruit.

Cindy in her words always called her “My Lone wolf”. This always made Brenda feel different and depressed all because she decided to focus on her priorities and grow her skills while single.

Brenda at first struggled with living the lie and rush but with much exposure soon became a Pro at it. She had pleasures at her fingertip and was the hot cake in town. She later got introduced to Johnny, a tall, dark and handsome young boy. She fell so much for him that she could do anything just to please him. I mean anything when I say abort four pregnancies, remain silent even when he physically abuses her, sneak out of her parent house and lie to her parents.

Johnny, the loverboy

Johnny was the definition of a playboy but Cindy who seems to know better advised her that he was the kind of guy every woman should have. The kind of man to have yet his fists never spared her fine face.

After much endurance and silence, Brenda had her fill. She ended up on the hospital bed with many complications while Johnny was nowhere to be found.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WENT WRONG ALL ALONG? COULD SHE HAVE ESCAPED THIS THICK WEB ENTANGLEMENT?

LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THIS STORY

  • Understanding purpose:

First of all, the reasons why we engage in various activities especially when it comes to delicate issues like love matters must be reasonable.

When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.

When we don’t understand why we need relationships, there will definitely be a serious abuse of it.

Can you answer these questions clearly without doubts: Why do you need a partner? What’s the purpose for that relationship? Are you any better than before positively in that relationship?

If you had a bit of doubt while answering, then I’d advise you sit back and think clearly.

Without a clear understanding of the purpose of a thing, Life itself loose its meaning.

I mean, every Inventor before any invention sits back to think of what purpose the invention fulfils, clearly defines the need for the invention and thereafter its value. Same goes with relationships, it becomes less valued when its purpose is not clearly understood.

Being in a loving relationship is a beautiful thing to behold when done with the right person at the right time.

  • Peer pressure:

In this present age, we give in to too much pressure from family, peers, friends, admirers and even what the society redefines as normal that we forget that there is a right time for everything. Peer pressure is a tool. We either allow it as a positive push or let it drain us.

  • Time for Everything:

Yes! Yes! Yes! There is time for everything. Time to sow, time to reap, time to build, time to remain single, time to be engaged, time to build oneself and many more.

A proper understanding and perception of each phase and timing is key. Everything in Life basically obeys this simple rules. I mean, will you not run if today a pregnant woman give birth to a grown man that can talk. Wouldn’t it have been weird if great men like Barrack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther king Jnr. and the likes come into the world and from their diapers suddenly grow big because they have so much importance and great destinies to achieve. Every Good thing in Life follows the simple process of growth stages.

Sometimes I wonder why we have so many broken homes today in our generation when everything seems to be easy and achievable than before but let’s sincerely look back at our parents and old ones.
Have you ever asked why they stayed together through thick and thin? It clearly because they understood the need for commitment, there was really no societal pressure as to when one should be in a relationship. They had a clear understanding of timing for everything.

So, why are we rushing? What’s chasing Us? Time or Peer pressure or the Society?
